They also lost the AL Cy Young
True, good point, but also they should get a fuil season of Manoah. They're probably not done adding guys either, they could use some bullpen help certainly.

Bassitt makes close to $9 million. Another salary dump by the A’s. (Prospects blah blah)

But also a FA after 2022, so trying to get value from his final season, although seems like they could have gotten more.

Could have moved him at the deadline, if/when they were out of it. But then they'd have to pay for April, May, June, and July.

High-powered reliever Joe Kelly has agreed to a 2-year contract with the Chicago #WhiteSox. The deal will be final when he completes a physical.

I guess it’s good that the Twins are still going for it, but the sequence of trading Berrios for prospects, and then turning around and trading different prospects for Gray seems… I dunno, inefficient at best?

I mean, he is an 18 year old that has thrown 5 innings in Rookie league ball. Sonny Gray has been a good to great pitcher since leaving the Yankees. He is on no top 100 prospect list. Actually seems kinda light for a mid rotation pitcher.

Between the two deals, the Twins gave up Berrios and an 18-year-old prospect and gained Gray and three prospects. The two they received for Berrios were both ranked in the top-100 prospects last year. And the money for this year is essentially a wash (Gray and Berrios both are due $10M), and they have Gray for an additional year at reasonable money ($12M option). There's an argument that the Twins came out ahead.

Even just the Austin Martin/Chase Petty part, Martin was the #5 overall pick in 2020 (and people though that might have even been low), Petty was the #26 overall pick in 2021.

I think this is right, as an overall value evaluation. Of course, the two moves weren’t connected, and I’m still annoyed that the Twins couldn’t figure out a way to extend the homegrown Berrios. Toronto extended him about 12 seconds after trading for him, and for a relatively reasonable amount given Berrios’s durability and solid consistency. But anyway…

Whoa, a third year player option! This new CBA has been berry berry good to Nelson (old SNL Garrett Morris joke).

Yeah that makes way way way more sense, he signed 1 year deals each of the previous two winters.

The possible value of the deal is 2/28 and the guarantee is 15M, so Gomez had the numbers but some details got crossed

Apparently Tatis had a motorcycle accident in the offseason, and due to the lockout this injury was not properly diagnosed until now.

Wiscansin, by way of Attleboro
Wonder if he had a provision in his contract that didn't permit motorcycle usage, a la Monta Ellis and mopeds (not exactly the same thing, I realize, as mopeds aren't motorcycles, and I think Ellis was suspended for his covering up/ lying about the act as much as being in breach of the contract terms). And even if he did have such a clause, would it be relevant since it occurred during the lockout.

Hope he heals up quickly. Fun to watch.
