Yup. That's the hard part. They had 3 options:I'm not sure Allen doesn't fail completely with the NYJ either. He had a rough start in Buffalo growing into the job and the NYC media and dysfunctional Jets may have pulled the plug before he figured it out or he may not be in a position to figure it out (Hello Diggs). Forget drafting lance, but if they got the 49ers trade and picked up 2 more 1st Rounders and a 3rd they could have rebuilt so quickly with a good draft.
1. Draft Wilson
2. Throw a dart and basically add a non-QB Pro Bowler for a decade (Parson, Chase, Waddle, Horn, Surtain, etc.)
3. Trade the pick or move down and pick up a TON of draft capital and maybe still get one of the guys from Option 2
They put all of their eggs in the Wilson basket and it blew up in their face. It's logical on its face for a team without a franchise QB to do so but shows just how costly missing on one of those guys really is.
