Sure Luka's better than Trae but neither of them guard (Trae probably gives more effort but is at a huge disadvantage) so we'll see just how big of a deal it was to make that trade.

Probably the bigger issue for ATL was having #4 and #10 in the next year's draft and ending up with Hunter and Reddish (instead of for example Cam Johnson and PJ Washington).

Of course in retrospect people are going to put Ayton in the Greg Oden / Sam Bowie category of draft day decisions.

Yeah, Luka weirdly gets a defensive pass, relative to Trae. They've both had similar team playoff success, and Atlanta definitely had more of a chance to win their Conference Finals appearance.

The fact that NY requested it after it was leaked he was going to be out for the year is stronger than a NBA declining imo unless those were smoke screens.
Much like TL, Mitchell Robinsons' defense/game depends upon extreme athleticism.

Getting ankle surgery is going to limit his effectiveness even if he makes it back by the playoffs this year.

I respect Obi Toppin for doing the between-the-legs dunk in games as much as he has, even if it is impractical and would likely make Rick Carlisle's head explode.

I don't know if he gets a pass, everyone knows Luka is a bad defender. He's still miles ahead of Young, who is bad at basically every single aspect of defense. Luka still has size and rebounding, and when he tries he's not much worse than a typical below average defender (the type that is in every playoff rotation). Young might be the worst defender in the entire league (among players that get regular minutes), and even if he reached his full potential on that end, he'd still be a liability in the playoffs.

Sometimes Julius Randle looks like he’s never played basketball before.
When he's making quick decisions and hitting his outside shot, he looks like the guy that has made all-NBA twice. When he's not, he looks like total trash. The sample isn't huge, but he's shooting .344 from the field and .283 from 3 in the playoffs and often has the demeanor of a guy who just doesn't give a shit.

Agreed. Placing both inside a huge tent marked 'bad' really obscures the degree of difference defensively. It's like claiming Payton Pritchard and Steph Curry are both good shooters.

Seeing a lot of this today and I really can't understand it:

I guess it's all for the clicks or whatever? But if you've been watching NBA for a long time and prefer, I dunno, the wrestling matches between the Pistons and Knicks to the flow and incredibly shot-making of today's game, what is it about basketball that you like? Lotta curmudgeons out there.

on back to back possessions, Randle travels (3 steps after the gather), no call, then next time down he double dribbles right in the paint, no call.

I don't even know why I'm hate-watching this game. I'm rooting for a meteor to hit MSG.

Also sometimes looks like the zebras have never read rule book but here we are. A confluence of WTF did I just watch?

Did you at least enjoy OGs blatant double dribble?

Anyone who thinks the charge rule needs to be reworked (because of the injury risk to the offensive player in the air) is nodding furiously at that play by Jaquez on Randle.

It could take five minutes off of a Buck game running time
Was having this same thought.. given how man times Giannis shoots FTs how many minutes/hours has he increased Bucks games over the course of 1 season.. or the course of his career? I think it's ridiculous he's allowed to take that long on every FT.. especially when the entire crowd is counting the seconds for him. It's as if one guy has his own set of rules.. oh wait..

I wish some fan base would begin counting when he starts his routine without the ball. The ref always stands there and waits until GA is ready and calls for the ball. Reminds me of how Jeter used to put his hand up to the Ump and would lower it when he was ready for play to start.

No Maxey or Harris, either. Is there a sickness going around? That's a lot of points to be sitting in a game that's not a b2b.
I guess if you're going to take a fine from the league for sitting stars on a national broadcast, might as well get your money's worth.

JJ Redick on the broadcast going as close as he can to the line of calling him out without crossing over into bashing the product.

I’ve stayed away from this discussion, but that’s honestly fucking embarrassing.
It's beyond ridiculous. I don't want to hear anyone talk about how he's the MVP, or the best player in the league, or even in that discussion. Until he plays like the MVP in May, he's a fraud. If I want someone to beat up on a lottery team in a home game in January, he's my guy. If I'm looking for someone to lead my team to a title, there are a dozen players better suited physically and mentally. Dude is the physical embodiment of "not rising to the challenge."

All Star starters, games played :

Haliburton 34 (despite significant injury)
Lillard 42
Tatum 42
Antetokounmpo 43
Embiid 33

Donic 38
SGA 44
Durant 38
LBJ 41
Jokic 45

Embiid plays a healthy season and has 5+ less games played than all other "All Stars" except for Haliburton who was/is out with injury for stretches of games... What a joke!

Utah absolutely annihilating the Hornets. Miles Bridges is a -36 at the half, which is the worst +/- I’ve ever seen in a half

Clipps effort on a b2b was surprising but I'm still not falling for it.

Lucy and the football, etc

AD takes the ball to the rim, Draymond leaps up and knees Davis in the lowbrows. AD on the floor writhing in pain. Timeout.

Edit: AD's grundle is hurt. Headed to the locker room. Welcome back Dae Dae.

Clips cause a lot of problems on defense, just like the Cs. Very athletic and very smart. Plus, KL is s monster. If they - well mostly KL - stay healthy, they will make a deep run and the DEN-LAC series will be epic.
