I wouldn't mind Stroman on a cheap and/or short deal. I think he is solid enough at the back of a rotation with good defense in front of him.
He is a ground ball machine, he only allowed nine HRs last year and just six of those would have gone out in Yankee Stadiun.I wouldn't mind Stroman on a cheap and/or short deal. I think he is solid enough at the back of a rotation with good defense in front of him.
Yeah it's a minor league deal, they will likely try to get Jeter Downs off the 40 man at some point and Smith is backup depth if someone claims Downs.Y'all have gone full Mallrats: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/01/yankees-kevin-smith-agree-to-deal.html
Seems like a AAAA guy but mlbtr says he has no options.
They talk about him like that cause that's what the White Sox have consistently demanded according to multiple reports (actually two top prospects plus a couple more on top). I don't think he's worth it either.Separate note, it's shocking to me that people talk about Cease as a pitcher who would require 1-2 top prospects in a trade. He is not a top of the rotation starter.
Peraza, Cabrera, Pereira are all on the table unless we think OP is taking over for GT next year. It’s hard for me to see how they can swing a trade without giving up a prospect they need in the near future.
Well, that's what I said regarding GT but I'll take solving a 2b problem over a SP problem if he nets us someone under control.Cabrera has very little value, not sure who the other two are getting you but I guess we’ll see.
They also will have an infield hole after 2024 if they trade Peraza because I can’t imagine they plan to be the high bidders on Gleyber next winter.
I think the time passed for it but I'm surprised a trade never materialized. Free the salary, get something before he's gone, give the kids more playing time...I wish they could trade Gleyber for a decent return, but if that was an option I think they would have done so already.
Yes, a rib cage cartilage fracture, also why his late season numbers sucked.Forgive me for not knowing but why was he at 140ip last 2 years? Injuries?
The Blake Snell contains potassium benzoate!Looking at Snell's splits is taking a ride on a baseball rollercoaster. He gave up no HR in 6 starts in July (that's good!) but he walked 26 (that's bad!) but he only gave up 2 ER (that's good!) but he only averaged 5.1 IP (that's bad!).
Really funny that there were 2 qualified starters (Kirby and Eflin) that gave up fewer walks all year than Snell did in July.
I think you're willing to take walks on a pitcher who gives up very few HRs and has super k rates. That said, it basically means anytime his control isn't perfect, it's a combination that means long innings and short games, which explains July. When his walks are down, he basically is a lock to pitch 6. SD only let him throw more than 109 pitches once all season and often cut him off before 100. Not totally unusual (that's how they handled their entire staff). Shockingly, Cole only hit 110 once all season. That's all to say that who knows if he could stretch another inning here and there, especially int he postseason, but I see no reason he can't.Looking at Snell's splits is taking a ride on a baseball rollercoaster. Yeah, lots of buzz around Stroman right now on X.Stroman posted an Instagram story of himself in a Yankees uniform about 15 minutes ago.

CWS wants Spencer Jones for Cease, that wasn't happening before Stroman and it definitely isn't happening now. Cease to BAL eventually seems to me like as much of a lock as Soto to NYY was.[Sherman] The deal is pending a physical. I do not think this precludes the Yankees from still trying to trade for Cease or sign another FA like Snell if prices fall. NYY felt they had to get on the board with another vet starter and did so with Stroman
I'm all about spending money now that we're over the highest tier. Hicks is a no brainer given the points about next year. I have no interest in any of the trade options because more than anything, we don't actually need another ace. If you can buy a number 2, great. If you can't, I would prefer to wait it out until the deadline and assess.CWS wants Spencer Jones for Cease, that wasn't happening before Stroman and it definitely isn't happening now. NY should still sign Jordan Hicks and then maybe trade a reliever or two for young pre-40 man guys, lean into spending money as they have a lot coming off after 2024 even if they manage to keep Soto. Hicks would be as much a 2025 and beyond move as a 2024 one with all of Holmes/Loaisiga/Kahnle FAs after 2024.
Also Will Warren, Chase Hampton, maybe Spencer Jones and a full season of Austin Wells in MLB.Added
Soto
Verdugo
Grisham
Injured players returning
Rizzo
Dominguez
Should be better
Volpe - Sophomore year
Stanton - Still not too old, no reason he can't be better when he plays
Notable substractions
Donaldson
IKF
Also worth mentioning Gleyber is in his contract year. I think we have the makings of a monster offense, not just because of Soto.

This will be a very different team next year and other than King, we have lost a lot of somewhat dead weight.
Gio Urshela could cover that role if they need to deal Peraza for rotation help. Probably why there was some chatter about the Yankees talking to him.NY can't really afford to trade Peraza, he is currently the backup 3B, SS and 2B, and they don't really have much behind him. I believe that he has been available but he should not be any longer.
Pereira could still be moved, although it would be safer to keep him until Dominguez is back or Jones is ready.
He can’t really play SS or even 2B, Cabrera would be a better fit but I think Peraza is staying now.Gio Urshela could cover that role if they need to deal Peraza for rotation help. Probably why there was some chatter about the Yankees talking to him.
NY knows way more about the health of their guys than we do, but they also need option flexibility in a couple of bullpen spots, and Luke Weaver just eliminated one of those. Out of 8 spots, these guys can’t be sent down:View: https://twitter.com/Feinsand/status/1746322519018115236?s=20
Yankees in on Neris. I like it. If they could do Neris and another bullpen piece, that would be great.
Gio Urshela seems more likely if NY wants to add someone for this role, especially since the fan base still loves him.thanks it looks good as long as inj does not happen again if it get into late feb i wouild love to see 3B J turner on a 1yr deal
