Sorry, was way behind all day and took a while to catch up...

Ryan Howard is a large man. Talk about a guy whose career fell off a cliff fast.

Seager just locked in. Dodger fans asking “why can’t we get guys like that?”
One game away from them having to watch Seager and Trae Turner in the WS.

The lack of SP depth this year for the Astros might end them tonight.
They didn't all have great seasons but they had as loaded a rotation as anyone after getting Verlander back, Hunter Brown would be ARI's 3rd or 4th guy. Javier got hit tonight but was a lockdown ace previously, just not his night.

Montgomery was the get of the deadline the way he's really turned it on. And it's a bit of Yankee schadenfreude as Cashman found him expendable while Frankie Montas contributed zero, and Severino blew up this year.
Just for the record, Rodon was really his replacement, both lefties. That obviously looks horrible right now, but we'll see after Montgomery gets his big deal this winter how those contracts both play out long-term.

From what I can tell, only Dick Williams has managed three different franchises to World Series berths. I actually didn’t know he managed the 1984 Padres.
Theres a famous clip from back when MLB did filmed WS films of Williams going to the mound and telling Gossage to walk Kirk Gibson. He didnt listen. Gibson homered.

Glad the Rangers won. I have conflicting thoughts for tonight - on one hand, I don’t dislike the Phillies, but on the other hand I live around and work with tons of Phillies fans who have been deciding which team they wanted to play in the WS since before the NLCS, so …

The Rangers are really building something special here. In the WS and Evan Carter is only 21. Wyatt Langford is absolutely raking and should be joining that OF in 2024. DeGrom should be available at end of next year. If Leiter and Rocker can be useful and healthy by 2025 or 2026, it would time perfectly with Scherzer and DeGrom aging out.

I didn't realize that the Rangers had the second best run differential in the AL at +165 and fourth best in all of baseball, behind the Braves, the Dodgers, and the Rays. They were 14-22 in one run games. Marcus Semien and Corey Seager were worth a combined 12.4 fWAR and 14.3 bWAR. That lineup is gonna be dangerous for years with Evan Carter, Adolis Garcia, and Wyatt Langford in the outfield.

Will Smith can become first to win 3 titles with 3 different teams, in 3 straight years, that's wild.

Also, slapping in the ALCS was so 19 years ago.
As we discussed elsewhere, Will Smith is one of the few players with WS initials to win the WS. Most successful in terms of rings seems to be Wally Schang (1913 As, 1918 Red Sox, 1923 Yankees, 1930 As, though he didn’t play in the last of those series)

Why? If the assumption is that winning at home is somehow easier, isn't winning 4 on the road a serious accomplishment?
I thought it was clear that I'm speaking from the perspective of an Astros fan. Apparently not. My apologies.

I'm upset with their performance. The Rangers did what they needed to do to win the series. No sour grapes here.

Also created the odd situation where either manager who won in 84 would be the first to win in both leagues.

The end of the road for Dusty Baker at age 103. This is his last hurrah as a manager.

What an incredible baseball life lived. He needs to be on one of the Post-Season shows as an analyst; toothpick and all.

Dusty Baker’s dad would’ve managed another ten years. What’s wrong with this generation?

I'd love to run into Dusty in an airport or something and see if I could get him to give me a high five. He probably gets asked all the time, and hates it, but fuck it, I'd ask him anyway.

I'm not an autograph or selfie guy and the few times it has been relevant, I've largely left celebrities alone. But I'd ask Dusty for a high five.

This postseason started off slow, but getting Game 7's two days in a row in the LCS's is such a dream scenario.

Hopefully this is a better game than last night's, as fun as it was watching Houston get crushed.
