Dbacks are my second team. The no errors is a thing, but going with it is how many spectacular plays they also make. Their defense and baserunning got them through some crummy offense and bad bullpen.

They should double steal right here.

Little bonus stat I think most folks might like here...

Most runs scored in a postseason game, trailed by 9+ at any point:

8, 2004 Red Sox, ALCS Game 3

I know it's standard to do the move after getting a hit, but doing the happy dance down 9-0 looks weak

You know how they say, “if you’re just tuning in,” and then say some interesting thing about what has been happening? It hasn’t happened much, but I can think of a couple of times when I was just tuning in.

And you know, it actually feels really good. Like they were waiting for me.

First base coach seems like it would be really easy. I think I could do it. Uniform might be a little snug.

Keep track of the outs. Watch the pitcher's move. Agree at all times with the managers.
I could see myself getting yelled at for forgetting to go to second base to get the hitter’s body armor after a double. People tend not to stay mad at me for long though — I bet I could talk may way out of a jam.

It seems like a pretty low pressure gig. No one ever gets really mad at the first base coach. The only thing you have to worry about is pick offs.
Manager might look at you whether to challenge a call at first. But if he’s asking you, it was really close by definition, so even if you weren’t paying attention you can just mouth “not sure.”

The job requirements are the ability to hold pads and slapping anyone who reaches first on the ass.

When I was a kid, I got drafted to a higher little league than I should have for my age. I rarely played. Manager had me coach first early in the season. I was so excited to be doing something that I lost focus, thought I was actually on first base, and ran to second on a ground ball. Everyone got a good laugh. I got a new assignment: keeping score on the bench.

I'm glad to have you continuing to entertain us through the playoffs.

Does the Red Lobster dragon shrimp have actual dragon in it? Or is it fake dragon, like fake crab?

Tonight raised his playoff ERA .28 points — 4.22 to 4.50. Which doesn’t seem like a lot until you realize he has pitched in 39 playoff games and 194.1 innings.
2.48 ERA for his career in the regular season, never been above 3.55 in any year (aside from a partial rookie year).

And in essentially a full regular season worth of playoff baseball he has a 4.50 ERA. Pretty amazing.

Even accounting for improved playoff competition, that's just an incredible change from his regular season career #s.

I'm rooting against the Dodgers, so big picture, I'm fine with this. But damn, Kershaw has always seemed like a great guy, and it's hard not to feel bad for the guy.

Don't first base coaches tend to have other responsibilities too, though? Like baserunning maybe?
I'm sure they all have various roles when they aren't on the field. Sandy Alomar has at least been on equal ground with bench coach DeMarlo Hale and will likely ascend directly from first base coach to manager (when Tito had to leave the team for a weekend, Hale took the reigns, but when Tito missed nearly all of 2020, Alomar was manager). He definitely has more responsibilities than 3rd base coach Mike Sarbaugh. However, Alomar is considered one of the best in the game at reading pitchers, which is why he stands at first base during the game.

Pretty consistently below average in the playoffs year over year too. He has a few good games and then gets crushed. Other than 2020, he has been fairly consistently not good.

One thing that jumps out though — he has some really terrible games. I wonder whether he gets left in longer in his bad outings than some other pitchers? There are a few in there where you think he would have been pulled.

It is going to be interesting how well they sell tickets in Arizona. I don’t think it will be like Tampa, but it’s a really big barn to fill.

The top two NL seeds still haven’t scored today, up to 15 innings now.
