Djokovic doesn't have a big window here, two hours and a bit before curfew. Hurkacz could be tough, looking forward to this one.

Wow, Hurkacz with a set point on serve but Novak pulls it out, 6-6 now.

Hurkacz was up 6-3 in this breaker and loses it 8-6, 5 straight points for Djokovic.

No breaks in the first two sets for either player, Novak definitely a bit lucky to be up two sets.

Eh, kind of, but it was dumb because Svitolina wasn't going to shake hands anyway and they acknowledged each other from afar.
Svitolina had been booed by crowds early in the season when she lost. Seems like those in attendance haven't been following Svitolina's stance and there's just booing post-match when she plays Russian/Belarusians

Djokovic holds at love to finish it, didn't see much of today but good job surviving this one by Novak.

Eubanks gets Medvedev next, the top half of the draw is brutal.

what a win...shows just how difficult it is for an underdog to actually close it out and win. Some of those misses he had in the last game were pretty horrific. His bpm was probably like 150, and Im sure his arm was shaking on just about every shot.

Meanwhile Tsitsipas comes up short again, that crazy first week had to take a toll on him.

The top four women seeds are all into the quarters, 5 out of the top 6 if Jabeur finishes off Kvitova (she just won the first set 6-0, very impressive).

Alcaraz and Berrettini split the first two sets. It’s worth noting that all three of their previous matches have gone to the limit, two three set wins for Alcaraz, and a 5th set tiebreak win for Berrettini in the 2022 Aussie Open.

Not this time, Alcaraz advances in 4.

6 of the top 8 men’s seeds into the quarters, the only two out are Ruud and Tsitsipas.

OK, I feel less confident about this than usual but let's see:

Alcaraz over Rune
Medvedev over Eubanks
Sinner over Safiulin
Djokovic over Rublev

Medvedev over Alcaraz
Djokovic over Sinner

Djokovic over Medvedev

Swiatek over Svitolina
Pegula over Vondrousova
Jabeur over Rybakina
Sabalenka over Keys

Swiatek over Pegula
Jabeur over Sabalenka

Swiatek over Jabeur

Beating all three of the top players in consecutive matches is too much for Jabeur, I think. With an easier road, maybe she breaks through and wins her first Slam here, but as it is, seems too hard.

The mucky muck
Pegula is really choking away this third set. She was a point from going up 5-1 and now has to break in order to even it at 5.

But Svitolina comes right back, outmuscling Swiatek from the baseline repeatedly and up 4-1, two breaks, in the 3rd.

5-1 now, Chris Evert thought Svitolina would fall apart in the 3rd, but it's been the opposite.

Svitolina finishes it 6-2 in the 3rd, a real ass-kicking in that final set. Bye bye bracket! :)

This is Rublev's 8th career Slam QF, he has made the QFs at all four Slams. He is 0-7 coming into this, has never made a semi.

Yeah, Novak kicked it up after that, 6-1 in the 2nd and up a break in the 3rd now at 3-2.

Djokovic finishes it off in 4, into the semis and he gets two days off before that. He will face Sinne (into his first Slam semi! congrats!), 22 years old to Novak's 36.

If he had gone on to win the second set and be up 2-0, what odds would you have given him? 30%? 40%?
without thinking too hard probably 33%, and then dropping to around 20% had he lost set 3, and 10% if it went the distance. Part of it is Djokovic obviously, but besides some mental weakness Rublev has shown, his game is also pretty limiting I think. He can blast forehands but doesn't really have the ability to win in other ways.

Madison Keys was down a set to Sabalenka but got up 4-2 in the second set, and then won just one point in the next three games, Sabalenka about to serve for the match at 5-4.

Jabeur lost a tough first set to Rybakina in a tiebreak and it was 4-4 in the second, but Jabeur has won five games in a row since, breaking Rybakina to win the second and now up 3-0 in the 3rd.

Jabeur finishes it off 6-1 and gets a bit of revenge for last year’s final.
