Amazing moment for Ohtani. Congrats to Japan, that was a well earned win and one of the most exciting non-Sox games I’ve watched.
They have two of the best players ever on their team at the same time and still can’t crack a wild card.

Incredible game and an incredible final pitch. Kudos to the Japanese pitching staff for keeping that lineup in check. I'd have love to have seen a US win, but this tournament has been incredible for baseball.
I always thought Smoltz should never be allowed to announce national games and that his existence is one of the biggest obstacles to baseball's US popularity, but just there I learned that actually he is qualified if and only if a stud SP is trying to close a game. So they should hire someone different for every other situation, but they can have Smoltz on very tiny standby retainer for the rare cases that comes up.
It is an incredibly difficult language to learn. Especially for Japanese people. I bet he is able to communicate with his teammates, but expressing more complicated thoughts is probably still too difficult.
That was huge for the game. So much fun to watch. Congrats to Japan on another epic run. Now we get to watch Yoshida every day all summer.
