Walks to Devers and Story lead to an RBI single by Casas to tie it up, night over for all 3 with pinch runners as soon as they reached. Sox take the lead on a Masa FC chopper to second, 3-2 Sox at the stretch.

Had the game on the radio. Will and LouMer. They mentioned NCAA basketball for a minute, including the Oakland lead over Kentucky at halftime. And LouMer chimes in with a quick tongue-in-cheek story about how his babysitter is losing money gambling on basketball and he's going to have to cover the $10K debt for her. (Segue to Ohtani gambling story - ha!) I really like LouMer, on the radio or TV.
That is all.

Some guy I've never heard of with the name "Hangenmann" is starting today in front of what seems like mostly a AAAA type of lineup. Getting the rotation set for opening day with one more start for whoever the "5" will be?

Miami (oh, Miami!)
Currently in a rain delay, but it's a free game of the day on MLB.TV.

Also, all the remaining ST games seem to be free games of the day.

Radar is iffy. Ft. Myers may get a dry patch coming soon.

The game is going, with the Toronto feed on NESN. No score going into the bottom of the second. Red Sox have gone 6 up, 6 down on offense so far.

I know it's because they upgraded the stadium when the Jays had to play regular season games there due to COVID restrictions, but it's still weird that the CF camera view makes it seem like they're at Rogers Centre. Just doesn't look like a spring training park.

Kiner-Falafel rips a 2-run bomb in the second, the first runs Hagenman has allowed so far this spring in 9.2 IP. 2-0 bad guys.

Looks like NESN is blocking over part of the onscreen info on the Toronto feed. Typical.

Good catch by Chacon in center though it looked in real-time like he short hopped it. He also made a good throw to get a runner at third on the play before. Not bad for a single-A (so far) guy.

Leading off today in Bradenton,, Abreu with a moonshot just foul.... Takes a BB. Erased on a tailor-made DP to short by Reyes. Casas disciplined, too much so it seems as he was frozen for the backward K.
The pitch to finish off Casas was plain nasty. He likely wouldn't have been able to do anything with it even if he had swung, just a perfect pitch.

Mayer sucks. Sell the team.

There's what sounds like a mom explaining the action to a small child getting picked up by the mics on this broadcast and she's kind of an awesome addition to the booth.

Bello 1 pitch, one out, chopper to Reyes at second. Pittsburgh announcer calling him "Bellow", quickly corrected by the truck it seems. Goes full on McCutcheon then gets pop to short. Missed what looks like an error while typing. Olympian and #67 Alvarez flawless on routine grounder to third. 13 pitches, should have been several fewer.

Yeah, it was filthy. Hard to even foul that off. This kid Jones looks like the real deal based upon his numbers, stuff, and the comments the announcers are making.

Bobby D leadoff walk. Anthony looked frozen on 2 strikes, had a good swing after adjusting but right up the middle into the defense, another twin killing. Wong soft grounder to third. Too quick.

Rowdy Tellez faces his first real test of his Pirates career: can he still make the Red Sox look like absolute chumps?

He takes the walk.

Soft single after a foul out (nice play by Reyes) put runners on first and second with 2 down. Easy grounder to short and threat neutralized.

Mayer had no chance against Jones. Swinging K out and up. Filthy. Alvarez takes a walk. Contreras down swinging on nasty slider. Lazy pop up, inning over.

I had forgotten that Eddy "the Jet" Alvarez was an Olympic speed skater. His wikipedia page is pretty cool:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddy_Alvarez

He medaled at the 2014 Winter Olympics and 2020 Summer Olympics. He is the sixth athlete and third American ever to medal in both the Summer and Winter Olympics in different disciplines. After his MLB debut on August 5, 2020, Alvarez became the first Winter Olympics athlete and the first non-baseball Olympian since Jim Thorpe to play Major League Baseball.[2] Only Alvarez and Jim Thorpe have played Major League Baseball and won an Olympic Medal in another sport.
Alvarez opened the Olympics with a disqualification in the 1,500 meters after running into an Italian skater. In the 1,000 meters, he fell when a Canadian skater slipped in front of him. He was taken down by a South Korean in the qualification round of the 5,000 meter relay, but the United States was advanced when a judge ruled the South Korean had impeded Alvarez. In a 500-meter heat, Alvarez again fell, this time on his own, when he slipped on soft ice. Commenting on all the falls, he joked that he should get a medal for his skill at hitting the protective padding at the edge of the rink. Alvarez finished strong, as he and his teammates won the silver medal in the 5,000 meter relay final, finishing 0.271 seconds behind Russia.

I really liked the broadcast before they spent last inning gabbing with the miked-up fielder, that always sucks. But before that they weren't talking too much, just talking about the game without the usual off-topic nonsense. I'd rather hear the crowd noise than announcer babble any day.

I wonder how many pitches Bello will throw today in his last spring training start?

Unreal and embarrassing that the Pirates are gonna break camp with Marco Gonzales and Martin Perez in the rotation and Jared Jones and Paul Skenes in the minors.

Bello leaves after right around 90 pitches, bases loaded 1 out bottom 6. Overall he looked very good, some bad luck and bad umpiring didn't help at the end.

Abreu got fooled a little and was not at all set up to take advantage of his arm on a medium fly to right. 1-1 on the sac fly. Weissert finishes with backwards K.

Campbell is a fun watch. He was down here when I was working at the stadium in '22, and is a fan favorite, too. I think you guys will like him.

Can't believe they got him for Urias. Blows my mind.
