I think he thought it was going into the stands, he stood there for a couple of seconds, probably ran eventually.
Great. He'll probably miss like three weeks or something.8 stitches, in concussion protocol.
Must be approaching a record for most starts into the season without a win and overall ERA under 0.50 (Omitting Openers).Crawford's four starts:
6.0 ip, 3 h, 1 r, 0 er, 1 bb, 7 k, 84 pitches, ND
4.2 ip, 2 h, 1 r, 1 er, 3 bb, 5 k, 90 pitches, ND
5.0 ip, 2 h, 0 r, 0 er, 4 bb, 6 k, 86 pitches, ND
5.2 ip, 2 h, 0 r, 0 er, 0 bb, 6 k, 92 pitches, ND
It would really help if he could give them one more inning per game, but I guess he's basically been league average in this regard, but with outstanding results. It's amazing that he's done this and has gotten four no-decisions.
Hamilton is almost 27 years old. He was a deplorable shortstop when Boston acquired him, he was a dismal shortstop last season, and he has been a dreadful shortstop this season. I am starting to suspect this might have less to do with development and more to do with wasting time on square pegs as if the Red Sox were Jami Gertz.TC and Jim Rice had a good discussion yesterday when talking about the team's defensive issues, most notably Hamilton at SS saying that Hamilton is not a major league SS and the MLB is not a developmental league.
Where Cora was demonstrating the cut area to be, seems lucky he didn't lose an eye. The impact was from the back of Raffy's head directly to the face, and his glasses went flying. Just a brutal hit.Great. He'll probably miss like three weeks or something.
Glad I didn't see it!Where Cora was demonstrating the cut area to be, seems lucky he didn't lose an eye. The impact was from the back of Raffy's head directly to the face, and his glasses went flying. Just a brutal hit.
LIke yes, it was pretty bad he whiffed... but Abreu also made it very hard on him.Cora puts the responsibility squarely on Hamilton for missing that throw from Abreu.
Yeah, I originally had it all on Abreu. Cora matters a little more, though. He probably still picks that.LIke yes, it was pretty bad he whiffed... but Abreu also made it very hard on him.
That's pretty much a week for the ChiSox.Do we have the most times shut out this year in MLB? We’ve been blanked three times, I think.
This is the season from hell, he'll probably have one of them Marc Savard concussions he can't come back from at the rate things are going hereGreat. He'll probably miss like three weeks or something.
Baseball is hard.I know one injury to Story can't explain everything but right now it just feels like so many guys on this roster I don't want them to hit it to.
Be surprising if he isn't put on the ILWhere Cora was demonstrating the cut area to be, seems lucky he didn't lose an eye. The impact was from the back of Raffy's head directly to the face, and his glasses went flying. Just a brutal hit.
Tyler Heineman, catcher, is the only position player left on the 40 man.Be surprising if he isn't put on the IL
DFA the BlizzardTyler Heineman, catcher, is the only position player left on the 40 man.
Although Walter seems like he could go on the 60day IL? If not to get a position player up, they'd have to cut from:
Zack Kelly
Joe Jacques
Naoyuki Unasawa
Wikelman Gonzalez and Luis Perales are also on the 40, but wouldn't be cut in a situation like this.
And then there's Dalbec.
I wonder if O'Neill is kind of furious.@ChrisCotillo
Cora doesn't think O'Neill will need to be on the IL. He's in concussion protocol. Devers is fine. Obviously, a scary scene.
O'Neill was in clubhouse w/ stitches but not cleared to talk.
Devers was cleared, agreed to talk to media then slipped out the back door and left.
Probably not as angry as Story, but he's got to be frustrated.I wonder if O'Neill is kind of furious.
I know I would be if I was him and was finally getting my career back on track after 2+ seasons of injuries.
Yeah, but at least Story's injury was a legit baseball play.Probably not as angry as Story, but he's got to be frustrated.
Yeah, they are stuck with Devers. I wonder if he could hear the message that he mustn't drift back, that if it's behind him it's probably the LF's ball to catch.Yeah, but at least Story's injury was a legit baseball play.
This was caused by his own teammate being a fucking moron.
I haven't seen a close-up replay, but is there any indication that they were both calling for it? I mean, Devers shouldn't be that far out to begin with, but maybe they couldn't hear one another. @Sad Sam Jones pointed out that the Guardians outfielders talked about communication after that playThis was caused by his own teammate being a fucking moron.
I think that’s a bit harsh. Players range deep all the time until they’re called off. We applaud the range and hustle they show. There is a pretty good chance that Raffy never heard O’Neill. So if he just chooses to stop and the ball drops because actually O’Neill isn’t there, he’s is a moron then too.Yeah, but at least Story's injury was a legit baseball play.
This was caused by his own teammate being a fucking moron.
The problem with the offense is they just haven't been moving the line like RS teams of the past. They have hit an inordinate amount of solo homers. Masa's 2 run shot yesterday is the only one i can remember that wasn't. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I think Casas should be hitting in the 2 hole rather than Raffy right now. When Duran is on in front of him, he seems to give him a better chance to steal 2nd.Baseball is hard.
The defense hasn't been great, but it's also kind of an easy narrative to latch onto. The Guardians won the game on a legit uncatchable homer.
They padded the lead by 2 on a freak play, but that can really happen to any team.
Then Cora went to his long man and they scored on legitimate hits. Again, hardly a disaster for the last man in the pen.

IMO the real story has been the overall lack of hitting. They're middle middle in the AL in most categories, but notably they aren't hitting doubles.
Coming out of ST they had a handful of boxes to check re: offense which they've apparently failed at.
Casas was fed a diet of junk by Seattle, but has since come on.
Duran has been excellent.
O'Neill (continuing the trend of hot hitters from outside the org) has been excellent.
McGuire/Wong have been hot for anyone, not just themselves.
However:
Devers wants only homers. And sucks thereby.
Valdez was known as the first-month nominal replacement 2B all through ST. He's been overmatched.
Abreu was likewise pegged as the 4th OF, with Refsnyder going down, and he also started ice-cold.
Yoshida. . .hit well in ST, but has been pretty bad until (maybe) recently, having the same poor outcomes.
Rafaela apparently played his way onto the team and into an 8 year extension - but again, has been clueless in MLB games.
Story. . .we'll never know. But Reyes has looked awful.
Sure, but while they were discussing Hamilton I think that the greater point they were making runs deeper than the one guy. While he's looked a little bit better, Valdez is not a good fielder yet he's taking a roster spot, Dalbec just doesn't seem fixable, yet he's taking a roster spot. Duran is earning his keep here, but look back to a couple of seasons ago when he clearly wasn't ready. I realize there is just so much that you can do when you combine injuries with the current construction of the team's 40 man roster, but ATM we have Hamilton, Valdez and Dalbec on the major league roster. Maybe you can carry one of those guys at the end of the bench, but recent circumstances has forced the team into starting two if not all three of them at times. At ages 25, 26 and 28 the clock is ticking if not expiring on the further development of these players, but if they are to improve it needs to be in a place where it's not at the cost of major league victories.Hamilton is almost 27 years old. He was a deplorable shortstop when Boston acquired him, he was a dismal shortstop last season, and he has been a dreadful shortstop this season. I am starting to suspect this might have less to do with development and more to do with wasting time on square pegs as if the Red Sox were Jami Gertz.
For God's sake; he's Canadian, a hockey player. Get the stitches and get back in the game.Great. He'll probably miss like three weeks or something.
With the current makeup of this team, I think we might expect to see this as we already have to some extent. I feel this team has the makings of one that is going to be consistently inconsistent. This was a pretty good game until that home run. Then bam, an injury and the game was over. Sox couldn’t hit against a pitcher who didn’t appear to have anything special going on. I’m ok with losses, but two hits through 8 is ridiculous
