Verdugo on the paternity list, Carlos Narvaez replacing him temporarily.
Narvaez spent all of 2022 in high A, amazing success story for him to debut in MLB a little over one season later. He is their 3rd catcher, Grisham will presumably replace Verdugo and NY can pinch-hit their catchers for each other if they want, with Narvaez as an emergency.

I'm looking forward to these games with Baltimore. It's probably going to be a dogfight all season long.

Maybe it was because it was partially disguised by the entire Yankees lineup hitting everything the last 2 games, but did that seem like an extremely under-the-radar AL player of the week for Rizzo to anyone else?
I mean in hindsight I get it, but I never would have guessed it, whereas Soto winning AL player of the week for the start of the season felt obvious. Maybe Rizzo is just easy to take for granted

I was at the O's vs A's game on Saturday with the family.
One fun thing that has started this year is Orioles fans mooing when Colton Cowser comes up to the plate. So if you think you hear boos for him, they are actually moos.

Looking at his game log, looks like they are using him but not too too much, pitch counts last week were all under 20. But also I doubt they expect him to be around all season, he will get bumped at some point so putting wear and tear on him now isn't an issue.
I skipped most of this one but was watching then and that was exactly what I thought.
Volpe is going to end up the year as probably a 6+ bWAR player if he stays healthy (1.6 before tonight) and his 2023 Gold Glove defense is even better this season, but kicking that ball in the 8th was inexcusable, handing your division rivals a run to make it 2-0 down in the 9th instead of 1-0 (it would have been the third out, one of the easiest chances he will get all season, ugh).
Also good job with two 15 run games, @cromulence ! I realized later it wasn't actually your turn and I misread it initially, so amusingly we shook up our rotation at the same time NY moved up Verdugo and woke up the bats (for two games anyway).
Yeah I don't think they are digging too deep into the quality of contact, feels like he has still barely fully squared up anything all season.
Yeah, I didn't think it was my turn again, but I wasn't about to make a fuss. Worked out OK, but I'm disappointed in tonight's effort.
Wasting good starting pitching really sucks, but I’m still happy to see the rotation perform well and I know the offense will improve sooner or later.
