1st games of the season for Portland, Greenville & Salem are scheduled for Friday, along with a WooSox doubleheader. Snow permitting...

3:35 p.m. ET - AAA - Buffalo @ Worcester (Game 1, followed by Game 2)

6 p.m. ET - AA - Hartford @ Portland

6:30 p.m. ET - A+ - Greenville @ Greensboro

7:05 p.m. ET - A - Carolina @ Salem

https://www.milb.com/scores/2024-04-05/all/all/redsox

No starters announced yet, but would expect Fitts & Gambrell for WooSox. According to the SoxProspects depth charts it would be Wikelman, Perales & ERC, but I don't think that's based on actual information.

Portland also has some snow issues...

Forecast calls for a high of 43 & a 90% chance of snow & rain tomorrow.

Going to be cold in Salem (mid 40s), but if you like fireworks...

There at least shouldn't be any snow. Similarly, should be mid 50s without snow in Greensboro. High of 45 in Worcester.

I was going to brag about our weather here (Vegas) seeing as how it's 77 right now, but high is only 59 tomorrow. No snow, though...

Long 1st inning for Fitts which included 2 strikeouts, a single, a double, a walk, an error, an unearned run, & 25 pitches.

Otoh, Ricky Teidemann threw a 7-pitch 1-2-3 inning.

So Hamilton isn't good enough on defense, that a CIF starts in front of him and he DH's?

Or are they just deep at 2B/SS/3B?

I think they're more interested in what Romy could provide the Red Sox than they are with Blizzard.

Fitts pulled after getting into some trouble in the 5th. 41 innings, but it makes sense because he had to sit through two innings that were like 45 minutes long, and it's cold. Encouraging start.

Here's the lineup with my last rankings & the SP ones:

3B Coffey (37/36)
DH Campbell (25/22)
CF Castro (21/15)
C Rosario (84/NR)
SS Ravelo (51/NR)
2B Liendo (128/NR)
LF Chacon (79/NR)
1B Miller (113/NR)
RF Gonzalez (106/NR)

SP Perales (7/10)

I think it's pretty funny that SP had Campbell 47 until yesterday... like what could be possibly have done in the off season that they shouldn't have already known about? lol

On the other side, they dropped Ravelo from 45 to out of the Top 60. I actually think this might be an interesting post hype season for Ravelo, who they had #29 in July for some reason.

Ravelo/Liendo/Chacon is the most interesting part of the lineup for me because they could all either breakout or bust. Tempted to update my rankings just to move Liendo up 50 spots for almost no reason.

Fitts left with 1st & 2nd, 1 out. Cam Booser allowed a single to load the bases, but then strikeout/lineout to end the inning.

Fitts' final line:

4.1 IP
1 run
0 ER
6 hits
2 bb
3 k's

78 pitches, 53 strikes (67.9%)

Not the cleanest outing (1.85 WHIP), but ultimately successful.

To me he looks the same he looked last season when he carried Greenville's non-existent offense to a title. They were all just way behind imo.

Final line:

He left with a runner on in the 4th & Zach Fogell came in & hit a guy, but got the last 2 outs without allowing anyone to score.

Gambrell is scuffling. 2 runs in the 2nd, 3 in the 3rd. 7 hits, 1 bb & only 1 k. WooSox down 5-0.
Gambrell did battle back & pitch scoreless 4th & 5th innings, but a rough outting nonetheless.

5 IP
5 ER
8 hits
1 bb
1 hbp
3 k's

82 pitches, 55 strikes (67.1%)

Chase Shugart came in for the 6th down 5-0.

Spring training is invaluable both for actually seeing players and for talking to scouts etc. about them.

I get it. I've been saying for months they had him rated way too low, though. Glad they got there. Or he he got there, whichever.

Campbell is 1-3 with a walk, a steal & 2 strikeouts so far today.
