Not a great start for Duffy.

Final line:

3.1 IP
2 ER
3 hits
2 walks
3 strikeouts

63 pitches, 38 strikes (60.3%)

He left with a runner on in the 4th & Zach Fogell came in & hit a guy, but got the last 2 outs without allowing anyone to score.
Good outting for Fogell, though:

2.2 IP
0 runs
1 hit
1 bb
1 hbp
4 k's

Denis Reguillo on for the 7th (Reguillo is a guy I don't understand keeping over a guy like LDLR, but hopefully he proves me wrong).

Greenville has struck out 14 times in 30 ABs.

Fortunately they are 7-16 when they don't strike out (.438 BABIP), & have walked 6 times.

Denis Reguillo on for the 7th (Reguillo is a guy I don't understand keeping over a guy like LDLR, but hopefully he proves me wrong).
Reguillo pitched a scoreless inning, despite a walk & only throwing strikes on 5 of 14 pitches. Had some help from JOHANFRAN gunning a potential base stealer out.

Isaac Stebens making his debut in the 8th.

Stebens, who did some closing at Oklahoma State last year before being drafted in the 16th round by the Red Sox, was 1 out away from closing out the game, despite a Marvin Alcantara error putting a man on 1st... but allowed a game tying triple.

Jhostynxon hit the wall hard, but seems OK...

Stebens got the next guy to ground out to end the inning. 3-3 b9.

YUTE walked to lead off the inning.

Stanley Tucker, who previously struck out pinch hitting for Angel Pierre, up next, then Feliz & Bleis.

1st pitch wild pitch sends Yute to 2nd.

Tucker walked, but Bleis lined into a double play & Anderson struck out.

Royman Blanco in for the 10th. Foul pop up to Albert Feliz... who then threw the ball away, allowing the auto runner on 2nd to score...

Blanco is a guy who I have a really hard time wrapping my head around the idea of him being a better pitcher in any way shape or form than LDLR. But oh well.

6-3 b10.

The Garcia brothers both singled, but for some reason Alcantara is batting clean up & got a double play in between.

Salem loses 6-4 in 10 innings.

JOHANFRAN was 3-4 with a double & a HBP. He was also the only Salem player who played not to strikeout (14 total). He also caught 1 of 2 attempted base stealers.

Jhostynxon was 2-5 with a double.

The Garcia brothers had 5 of Salem's 6 hits. They did have 8 walks, though.

Bleis had the other hit, & a walk, going 1-4 with 2 RBI.

YUTE was 0-2 with 2 walks.

Alcantara was 0-4 with a walk, 2 strikeouts, an error & a double play.

Castro’s 5 walks, at least per GameDay, were 3 7-pitch at-bats, a 6-pitch at bat and a 4 pitch at-bat. 31 total pitches.

I didn’t look at how many times he swung the bat, but it doesn’t look like he just benefited from total wildness by pitchers.

Castro has what looks like a bunch of above-average tools, though the power hasn’t manifested yet, and the defense profile may slip to average. If he has this good approach that allows him to unlock more of the gameday power, he’s another fun OF in the system, just below the Anthony, Bleis, Rafaela group.

I’ve always wanted the Sox to have a guy whose particular expertise was in fouling off pitches and secondarily to draw walks. But really just foul off pitches. Have 20 pitch at bats. Drive opposing pitchers absolutely bananas. Singlehandedly force starters out of the game. You can keep your launch angle revolution I want to start the foul away revolution.

This is the baseball version of my belief that football teams should try to develop a kicker who can also punt thereby saving a critical roster spot.

An army of foulers seems more likely at this point of human evolution than someone being top 25 in the world at 2 completely different skillsets.

Also, punters are almost universally the holder now, which adds an easier to overcome, but still real, obstacle.
