5-13 vs the Cards

Ok, that hurt last night. Really, really painful loss. Worst of the season so far, I'd say.
But that kind of stuff happens in a 162 game season. At least once, more likely a few times. Which is something nobody needs to tell anyone in here. We've all been around more than enough to know this, even if in the heat of the hyperbolic moment we can sometimes get all Chicken Little. Also at least, at least this time it wasn't the goddamn Rays or MFY doing it to our heroes, as it has more normally been in seasons past.
So rub some dirt in it and let's move on. New game. These Cardinals have been very bad this year so far, but that most likely won't last forever. They're bound to bounce back sooner or later.
Let's see if our heroes can keep that from happening until Monday.

Game 40
The Sox did not start off well with St. Louis.
Bad luck and bad bounces just seemed to screw us.
James Paxton pitched well in his Red Sox debut,
but with one bad pitch, the Cardinals got two.
The Sox battled back. Duran’s single tied it.
We went for the lead, but defense denied it.
As Casas connected to drive some more in,
our ball girl committed a Cardinal sin,
flashing great leather on a ball that was fair,
keeping Jaren at third, then we left him there.
The Sox quickly righted this unlucky wrong
with back-to-back homers from Valdez and Wong.
Unfortunately, Paxton started to tire,
and Cora brought in Winckowski and Bleier.
They coughed up the lead, but the Red Sox had faith,
and we went back up with two runs in the eighth.
6 to 5 in the ninth, Jansen took the ball,
but sadly, he just did not have it at all.
In this painful game filled with endless crotch kicks,
he gave up 3 runs, and we lost 8 to 6.
You know that his bad day was beyond belief
cause we were relieved to see Tilt in relief.
The Cards dealt a blow, but the Red Sox still hold
an ace named Chris Sale, so this team will not fold.
Play tough, raise the stakes, call their bluff, go all in.
There’s a full house at Fenway. Bet on a win.

First loss of the year on a game we lead after 6 IP. That’s pretty impressive.

Paxton looking good is a *very* bullish sign for this team.

Amazing!
I hope you’re keeping all these…. When the Sox win the WS this year, your daily poems collection of the full season will be an epic

It was excellent, and I enjoyed it a lot.

By the way, did anyone in her/his wildest dreams ever envision Jansen having to be relieved by Tilt?
It would be nice if the Sox got a Jansen-proof lead tonight, yes?

Reffy better do good on those fat pitches he’ll see hitting in front of Raffy

Looking forward to seeing what Pablo does too

This was an important fact that I left out of the poem. I went back and added a couplet to commemorate the insanity.

Ancient Turner is actually better at first base than Casas. Just make Casas a DH and let him focus on hitting.

I may be wrong, but I think managers like the freedom of using DH as a half-day off for lots of different players. Also, it gives more flexibility to the lineup.
It can be a half day off with Casas at first but he’s young and already slow and not agile. It’s a game thread take not something worthy of a main board post.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
Oh man - someone needs to .gif up that clip of Devers knocking his head with his index fingers.

(That would be during the second at bat of the top of the second.)
