Would be fun to see Dusty do the Little League move and just have the SS come in and pitch.

At this point I think you need to start Abreu against any righties

I sort of thought before this series that we needed to go 5-2 against the Astros to have a chance. Still a possibility. Truth is I'd take 4-3 even though it probably won't be enough, but I guess we should not underestimate the yellow jerseys.

Nice thing is the Dodgers are playing a double header today and using up their pen. The Sox will get to LA before them.

What an infuriating turn of events to make Betts' first return to Fenway an Apple game. It disrespects all of us who've been paying for NESN all season long.

All in all….. I guess a split isn’t terrible especially after getting hammered the first two games

Missed this one today. Wilyer is on some kind of heater right now. Have to keep finding room for him if he is going to carry his AAA performance forward for the moment.

Devers strands runners again. Doesn't matter in this game, but sometimes I wonder if he's lost his clutchiosity.
Before today's game, Devers was hitting
.312/.428/.557/.985 with runners in scoring position (152 PA/122 AB) and
.265/.321/.498/.819 with the bases empty (265 PA/245 AB) >>bb-ref

Probably Ref…sometimes the platoon guy starts getting more starts when a AAA player gets called up but hopefully they keep Abreu against all righties.
He's had 9 starts all year against RHPs and I'm guessing most of them were when Duval was hurt and Duran wasn't a starter yet (Yoshida was out or couldn't play the field for part of that time too). There's no reason they'd even consider him getting starts against RHPs right now unless several guys get hurt or need a day off.

Mookie's been on fire of late. He's taken over the national league OPS lead with a 1.010. Today, he was five for five and two for three in a doubleheader, getting his average up to .310. He'd been as low as the .250s in June.

Looking at the highlights, it seems like the Sox had a ton of seeing eye hits today, which explains the ridiculous totals but also can get the offense going at an opportune time, much as the inverse can lead to a death spiral.
