The Yellow Jersey Magic is well-established by this point. With the Red Sox and the umpires against them, the Royals have no chance

I leaned towards Story but decided Sale. I just suspect that the difference between Story and Reyes for the stretch run won’t be as vast as that between Sale and whoever gets bumped for him

That's the thing. Sale will probably replace a bullpen guy and his starts eliminate a bullpen game. Now if they keep Pivetta at his role of coming in the 2nd inning or make him a full starter again, we got ourselves a rotation.

Normally I would say Story - besides the fact he'll play daily (or every other day or whatever) instead of once every five, I've been excited for him to be a mainstay on the field having seen him many times here in Colorado - but our pitching staff is so battered that a returning Sale should be hugely impactful. Like, we're in danger of running out of pitchers without reinforcements coming in. Even if Sale is less effective than he was in the first part of the season, we need live bodies who can credibly pitch multiple innings.

Oh, and as an anti-monarchist, I'm ready to see us obliterate the Royals once again.

Yu were the sun
Yu were the rain
That made us love this foolish game
Yu need to know
We loved Yu so
And we'll sign Yu Chang again and again

Those times I waited for Yu seem so long ago
I wanted Yu far too much to ever let Yu go
Yu know I never got by, "I feel it too"
And I guess I never could stand to lose
It's such a pity to say

Goodbye to Yu
Goodbye to Yu

I’d really like to know where Chaim was leaning last night because I thought Reyes was getting the boot.

I'd venture to guess Chaim's second thought after the walk-off was; "Well, now I have to keep Pablo." Easy choice.

Are you taking offense into consideration here? Story won't be playing everyday right away so that's a minus in the short term, but his bat is going to lengthen that batting order.

Have we had this discussion before? Why was Duran on deck last night during the last at bat? Is he required to be?

He is. Rule 5.10(k)
Seems dumb, but I guess he could help a runner decide whether to slide or something like that. But like standing there in full pads and taking swings and using the donut seems stupid. I wonder if he could just sit criss-cross applesauce.

Game 113
Today is the day! The Return of Trevor,
who at, long last, has decided to sever
his ties with Portland. (He was there forever.)
50 games left to be focused and clever,
to pull the right strings. (There’s no magic lever.)
The post season quest is quite an endeavor.
We want a great Story. It’s Now or Never.

Yeah, that's one thing that comes into question every now and again and the plain answer is that the rules require him to be on the on deck circle. But do the rules say he has to be holding a bat and practice a swing? I saw him holding a bat when Reyes was coming home too.

And while it's his job to tell the incoming runner whether to slide or not, it's not in the official rules. BTW there was a clip of Big Papi "explaining" to Rusney Castillo that he was supposed to do that between innings.

Yeah, I learned the phrase criss-cross applesauce from my daughter, English teacher, recently (let me be, Spanish is not my first language and I was never told this in Elementary School).

Don’t sweat it that’s how I learned it too. When I was in Elementary School that was called “Indian style.”

It's barely even English, to be fair.

I'm waiting for Casas to be on deck in that situation.

Remember when Adam Ottavino used to go "earthing" before games?

The proof will be in the pudding, but just the addition of Story has lengthened this batting order. When Turner's back, even better and that DH slot can be utilized to give all of these guys semi days off as Cora will be able to take full advantage of the flexibility of what hopes be a healthy non pitching half of the roster.

Lineup looks a lot better.

And Verdugo out of the doghouse? To be fair, if he was playing RF maybe the Sox win without drama

Turner played the last 3 days. This looks like a day off/rest thing.

I think Cora may have said that he's off through tomorrow. That's what I meant by when he's back.

From an Alex Speier Tweet...
Turner is sitting today, and Sox plan to stay away from him at least through Wednesday and maybe through Thursday. No IL stint anticipated for now.

Duvall is starting again after that disaster yesterday? Seems like a good time to give him a game off, maybe he could spend the time remembering that he was not umpiring the game, he was playing in it.
