Just 20 games left to a season that is quickly circling the drain. From this point on I'd want to see the very best possible from those expected to be on next year's roster. Solid defense, smart base running, starter's finding a way to go 6 innings and the some of yesterday's offense to carry over. Is that too much to ask? Probably so, but the NFL regular season has arrived. With CBS and FOX both running double headers this team needs to give me a reason to stay tuned. @LynnRice75 and @InsideTheParker do your things!!!

Molto Bello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pitch six innings, get the good bullpen (no Jacques, Weiss, Llovera)!
Geaux, Sox! More selfless hitting, move the guy over, score runs for our best starting pitcher!
P.S. gridiron games bore me, so entertain me for the next 20 please, as I have no other games to root for.

Game 143
23 hits! The Red Sox offense looked great!
You would think that scoring 12 runs would equate
to a victory, yet we dropped our 4th straight
because not enough of our guys crossed home plate.
(Chris Sale took the blame. What a noble teammate.)
In a year of weird losses, where does that rate?
The worst game of the year is hard to locate,
and, in truth, a really depressing debate.
Just a few more defeats will eliminate
the Sox from contention and thereby deflate
my last gasp of hope but will never negate
my love for the team, so I’ll watch and I’ll wait
in a strange and somewhat oblivious state
looking for the things I can like and not hate,
and writing down rhymes as I watch to create
some kind of distraction until that dark date
that I must admit that we have met our fate.
Till then, I’ll rely on my odd foolish trait -
my ridiculous, optimistic, innate
belief – that for now – it is still not too late.

Nick Robertson just entered the Red Sox clubhouse. He’s expected to be added to the Sox roster, with James Paxton expected to go on the injured list.

Nice to see Cedanne lead off.

I guess there's a reason to watch the first out of the bottom of the 1st before turning it off.

Season is pretty much over but some good stuff here. Wilyer has certainly earned another start. Ceddane leading off. Urias with another chance to get going.

And Bello looking to show those people who say he can't pitch in a day game.

"Right knee inflammation" for Paxton, which probably means the body is worn down after his first full season in four years

Looks like he might get a night game. It just started poring here, 3 miles from Fenway, with only short breaks likely until 8 or 9 PM

As expected, Paxton's season is over

@alexspeier
Cora said Paxton’s knee has been “barking a little bit.” His season is over. Pivetta will be a starter moving forward.

They are out of the race. Players are dropping like flies. Last night was a repeat of opening day. It’ll be pretty wet when things resume.

But I’m going when this game starts up.

There's no reason to play it, unless it matters for the AL East title.

Remember when lead-off batters tried to see a bunch of pitches so the other guys on the team could see what he has? (OB just said no one on the Sox had ever faced Rodriguez before.)

Yeah, Ceddane will probably never be that guy

I'm quite struck at times about how different a pitcher can be from one start to the next. That seems like a limitation on video scouting.
You're not scouting to see the results. You're scouting to see how his pitches move, what pitches they go to in certain situations, and differential in speed.

Rotten luck on these ground balls. On replay not sure why Story didn't throw to first.
