Lesser of two evils is Reyes. I hope they can go find a good defensive second baseman. Reyes at least can get a bat on a ball, unlike Urias.
I feel the opposite. I would lean towards Reyes as the better defender at 2B, so a better fit given Devers and Casas in the IF.

I wish. But no way. I really do not remember a stretch like this in the last 20 years, despite a number of last place teams. They are absolutely terrible.
I think your word "absolutely" makes you wrong. If they couldn't hit at all, they'd be absolutely terrible, but they do have some skills, which makes the team very frustrating, as they lack the means to use those skills to win games. Perhaps this is on Cora, or on his coaching staff, or the players, who are very stupid. I'm not sure.

The two teams combined today are 0-12 with RISP. Which is kind of like the stat that Wayne and Brent Gretzky are the brothers with the most points in NHL history.

Once ownership gave up on Bloom with a couple weeks to go in the season; they gave up on everything for 2023. Why should the players feel any different? Half of them won't be here next year and are just trying to stay healthy and play for themselves. And doing a shitty job at both of those.

Four hits, zero walks and two runs over six innings is a quality start for Pivetta. For anyone, actually. I’m totally comfortable with Pivetta as the #4 or #5 starter next year.

Results aren't there, but I think Duvall has looked better in his last 2 ABs.

With RISP this series.

Pablo 2-2. Everyone else: 1-30.

Edit — actually Pablo is 2-3 and everyone else is, now, 1-30.

O'B knows that defense is top priority for Cora.

We have zero evidence of that, O'B.

Does the three-batter rule only pertain within the inning? In other words, Murphy doesn't have to start the next inning in order to have pitched to 3, does he?

Is defense even coachable at the MLB level? The way to improve the team’s defense is by playing better defenders. The Sox have already improved defense with Story’s return and Reyes replacing Arroyo. Rafaela in CF will improve it even more next year. The remaining defensive liabilities - Yoshida, Devers, Casas - aren’t replaceable.

Yoshida and Casas will improve. Remember, Casas is still a "rookie". Raffy is pretty much what he is although he has improved to the eye over the past few years.

So, this Horwitz has just joined the game, eh? Could have left Murphy in, but I guess there was some game playing I missed while still muted for the commercial.

I think that it is to a certain degree. I think a young player can certainly improve and even veterans or players with lesser talent can make some improvements through continued work on positioning. In the case of Yoshida, he's never going to be an elite defender, but he might improve his LF play at home as he better understands how the ball plays off different parts of the wall.

Oh, I agree that players can marginally improve with experience and that coaching can marginally improve some players. But with a few rare exceptions, (for example players who make it to the MLB young, like Devers,) players are who they are defensively by the time the reach the majors.
