Pretty damn ugly second half from Bello. SO/BB ratio is in line with the first half, but he's just getting battered. Quality strikes? He's not throwing them. Middle fastballs, no elevation with the four seamer. I wouldn't anoint him ace material, not right now.

Can we please go out and get someone to be the no. 1 for the 2024 club?

Not at home and checked the score and it was 4-0. Felt like 2 seconds later and it is 6-4?? Is our defense the culprit or is it all can’t pitch in day games Bello?

Heard Merloni doing a segment earlier today on WEEI, and he said the Sox don't need to get a #1 starter. Instead, they just need to add 2 guys as good as Bello. I don't agree, Lou.

All we need is a #1, #2, and #3 starter- and then to replace two of our best bats in Turner and Duvall. Easy peasy.

Is there a curfew for traveling teams at night before a day game? If not, does Bello have one anyway when he starts day games because he struggles with day game pitching?

We are terrible. That's the bottom line. There are bright spots here and there for a time. Casas got hurt in time to avoid letting us down. Martin still has a week or two left to implode. Devers has had a very good floor at the plate. Turner's WAR are relatively cheap, but, you know, not exactly worth writing home about.

Bello turned out good, but his numbers after this shitshow actually are going to border on JAG territory for the year. That's hyperbole, but not much.

I mean, our players are kind of shitty. They all just keep sucking.

What a shit team. I like Bello a lot, but I think anyone counting on him to be the ace of a staff next year is fooling themselves a little bit.

Bello is only 24. Still room for projection there. Can't rely on him to be an ace next year but it's not outside of the realm of possibility.

But yeah today he sucked.

Says a lot about the quality of the prospective staff. Yikes.

Words cannot express my displeasure with these guys.

I'm reminded of the quote from Head Football coach John McKay of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their early, dismal years. He was asked during a postgame interview, "What do you think of the execution of your offensive line?" McKay answered, "That's not a bad idea."

It's just really sad.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
Flemming and Merloni are going on about Alex Cora making an inspirational speech in 2018 that maybe turned the WS around.

Perhaps he should have saved a paragraph of that speech for this year.

Or even a sentence.

[pedant]His actual response was "I'm in favor of it."[/pedant]

Checking back in, but going out to the veggie garden again, b/c this is just painful. Whoever this Robertson guy is, if I see him again, it will be too soon.
Oh, before I clicked to post, Schreiber added himself to the list of disappointments.
Given the title of this thread, do this year's Sox deserve better posters? I don't think so, so I will continue to suck, thank you very much.

Dave Bush is piling up those frequent coach miles. He should probably upgrade to business class.

This game had everything that was wrong about 2023

- Starter fails to go 5 innings
- Walks
- Devers error
- JAG relievers
- Yoshida grounders
- Injury
