Wish we had our choice of Daniels/Maye instead of runner-up, but should have tanked a bit more to have that choice.1/$8.
Several here called it. We're taking Daniels/Maye at #3. T and WR in the 2nd/3rd, depending on how FA shakes out from here.
Winning on Christmas in Denver was really pointless along with the Steelers in Pittsburgh.Wish we had our choice of Daniels/Maye instead of runner-up, but should have tanked a bit more to have that choice.
And both teams really sucked those nights, I choose to blame them instead. To an extent.Winning on Christmas in Denver was really pointless along with the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
Agreed. Good news starting to flow. Been a bit lean since the coaching hires. Edit: and good to see the majority of the effort on the offense.Absolutely perfect. The length of the deal AND the $$$$. Wow. What a mature and workmanlike spate of signings so far. From the Dugger tag to Bourne, Hunter, Onwenu and, now, Brisset. Really encouraging that they're not going crazy, but are making solid, strategic moves. Plug holes, head down, keep going.
would like to show him the door nextDid Zappe “like” this one too?
Absolutely. Can we get a pick for Zappe?!?
No wanted him last year when he was on waivers so I’d be shocked. Can we get a pick for Zappe?!?
I assume they pitched him on starting 16 games, mentoring his replacement, and giving himself a chance for one last big payday.I can't believe he took just a single year contract, but for the team, I'm thrilled. I expected a 2nd year would be necessary, and a 3rd for bonus dumping. Welcome back, Jacoby!
Backups usually get either 1 or 2 year deals, and you get more money doing the 1 year deals. Patriots are probably one of his best chances to get some starts too.I can't believe he took just a single year contract, but for the team, I'm thrilled. I don't know -- what other teams are really out there at $8 million? Brissett probably kicked the tires with Minny, but if you're Brissett you don't want to play musical chairs with Flacco, Winston, Tannehill and Dobbs all potentially out there. Patriots needed a one-year player and Brissett probably had to be concerned that those guys might fit the bill. There are more available QBs that profile for what the Patriots need than there are spots and I think the Patriots may very well have given him a tight deadline.I see no reason for Brissett to rush into this signing unless he was promised the starting job and was told they're going to get him some weapons.
About time to let go of that one?Winning on Christmas in Denver was really pointless along with the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
I don't see this signing - the length or the $$$ - as necessarily indicating they pitched him on starting that many games. I would suspect it's more like, "Maybe start some games, but you'll be mentoring the #3 overall pick, showing him the way," etc.. Curious what makes you feel that he was promised the starting job.I assume they pitched him on starting 16 games, mentoring his replacement, and giving himself a chance for one last big payday.
I also view this signing as a good indicator that they aren't done on the offensive side of the ball. I see no reason for Brissett to rush into this signing unless he was promised the starting job and was told they're going to get him some weapons.
Yeah, I mean, I shouldn't have worded it that way. I'm assuming the pitch was that he'll have every opportunity to earn the #1 spot. That they feel good about a turnaround and if he is better suited to lead the team than a rookie QB, they're fine letting the kid learn under him for a year.I don't see this signing - the length or the $$$ - as necessarily indicating they pitched him on starting that many games. Copy that. That sounds about right. Now let's go get Calvin, Tyron, and Danielle.Yeah, I mean, I shouldn't have worded it that way. Except, you know, the guys out there playing to win who won’t be on the team next year playing for contracts, as well as the coaching staff that’s now gone.Winning on Christmas in Denver was really pointless along with the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
Neither, really.Does Brisset’s style fit better as a mentor for Maye vs Daniels?
Eh. Beating the Steelers is always a good thing, and beating the Broncos in Denver is a rare thing. I’m not mad they won those games. If anything those games cemented Mac’s departure, so they were a positive in that regard.Winning on Christmas in Denver was really pointless along with the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
Between those two I would say Maye. Daniels is much more mobile than either.Does Brisset’s style fit better as a mentor for Maye vs Daniels?
Both. Style of play isn't going to matter at all as a "mentor" what you want your bridge QB modeling for your rookie is working hard, watching film, leading in the lockerroom, being a good guy with teammates, and just how to handle yourself as a pro QB. The style stuff won't matter, the good habits are what a vet can teach. The coaches will be the ones working on skills/technique.Does Brisset’s style fit better as a mentor for Maye vs Daniels?
Yes AND it's worth pointing out that Maye is NOT not mobile. While he's obviously not in the same running/athletic QB league as Jayden Daniels, Maye is certainly more mobile than Brissett.Both. Anything is possible, but aside from the chance they really like McCarthy I don't see the point in going that way. You don't pass up on a top QB for a journeyman and the fifth or sixth best QBs in the class, even if you net a few more picks. They've played things straight so far. I'd expect that to continue.I don’t agree with some that this seals the deal on Maye or Daniels. Does that seem likely? Sure. But they could also trade back still with peace of mind knowing Brissett can work alongside a McCarthy, Penix, Nix, etc.
