I still would be thrilled to see him stay in NO, even though I know there is almost no chance. It would be just so much fun to see Davis and Williamson play togetherNot sure this means anything, but we finally have an update of the Griffin/AD meeting, per Woj.
Woj: New Orleans star Anthony Davis and Pels EVP David Griffin met this morning in Los Angeles and are expected to continue a dialogue moving forward, league sources tell ESPN. Griffin is making his case to AD on a future with the Pelicans. Davis can be a free agent next summer.
Yup. Basketball fans everywhere would benefit from that.I still would be thrilled to see him stay in NO, even though I know there is almost no chance. It would be just so much fun to see Davis and Williamson play together
If Davis fires the Lakers’ GM as agent, I’ll give the Pelicans odds of keeping him, until then they’re off the board.Yup. Basketball fans everywhere would benefit from that.
The Lakers GM isn't Davis's agentIf Davis fires the Lakers’ GM as agent, I’ll give the Pelicans odds of keeping him, until then they’re off the board.
And in the eye of that storm, Rob Pelinka is in his office, watching that Heath Ledger movie where he says "chaos is a ladder", and tapping his fingers together as he plots his next move.Anyone speaking with certainty about who's running the Lakers is delusional (or kidding). I don't think that Jeanie Buss knows. Right now there are a half dozen people that we know of weighing in on GM matters. It's anarchy.
Unfortunately for Laker fans he's playing Candy Crush while doing it.And in the eye of that storm, Rob Pelinka is in his office, watching that Heath Ledger movie where he says "chaos is a ladder", and tapping his fingers together as he plots his next move.
Maybe people have that story all wrong and what Pelinka is able to do is commune with the dead and channel their thoughts? He could be having a conversation with, say, Jerry Buss right now....maybe that's the source of his leverage with Jeanie! And in the eye of that storm, Rob Pelinka is in his office, watching that Heath Ledger movie where he says "chaos is a ladder", and tapping his fingers together as he plots his next move.
I can't get enough of this Lakerfreude...And in the eye of that storm, Rob Pelinka is in his office, watching that Heath Ledger movie where he says "chaos is a ladder", and tapping his fingers together as he plots his next move.
This: speaking as someone who lived as a lonely Cs fan in LA during the “Showtime “ era, I love these almost-daily implosions.I can't get enough of this Lakerfreude...
pour milk on it and have it for breakfast every day

My guess is that LA’s only real shot is if Phoenix or Chicago decide to trade for Ball. From Griffin’s perspective having the two extra lottery picks allows him to take a gamble on someone like Reddish or Porter as he’d have two sure things in tow. Outside that I expect that the Knicks, Nets, or Celtics to outbid them.Per various tweets Griffin is now listening to offers. He's apparently also telling folks he likes Brandon Ingram. Okay dude--pull the trigger.
Most think it's him making sure teams know they need to come with legit offer.
Not to mention the whole dad thing + only wanting to play in LA or Phoenix.I can't see Ball fetching a high lottery pick like that though. His shooting is too terrible and his injury history is getting pretty scary
The rumor a couple of weeks ago was that both teams were kicking the tires on Ball. Honestly I took it more as a commentary on the draft outside the top three than any theoretical value on Ball.I can't see Ball fetching a high lottery pick like that though. The shooting and injuries are major warts (though Phoenix undoubtedly trusts their PED ... errr ... medical/training staff to deal with that). But Garland, White, and Alexander-Walker come with their own warts.
I don't think DSJ is going to get them #6. Dallas shopped him for a first round pick at the deadline and found no takers. He probably gets you a pick in the late teens or 20s.The problem is that there are guys like DeRozan that LA can trade for that will help get them into the postseason next year without sacrificing future cap space.
I do agree with you, though, to the extent that I think that the Knicks will go all in. They also have a promising point guard that they can dangle to the Suns or Bulls and a much better pick to offer to New Orleans.
Being able to offer Barrett, who has a high floor with a lot of remaining upside, makes it tough for LA to top the offer. Especially if New York can talk Phoenix into DSJ for #6, because that potentially gets the Pelicans either a high floor player like Hunter or someone like Hayes who has a solid floor with a lot of upside.
#6 is highway robbery for that guy.I don't think DSJ is going to get them #6. Dallas shopped him for a first round pick at the deadline and found no takers. He probably gets you a pick in the late teens or 20s.
The available point guard options this year are not terribly inspiring.I don't think DSJ is going to get them #6. Dallas shopped him for a first round pick at the deadline and found no takers. He probably gets you a pick in the late teens or 20s.
If the Pelicans trade AD to the Lakers and allow them to protect a future first....I'd think Griffin holds out for unprotected, telling the Lakers "Look, you have AD and Lebron, what's the big deal?" and if they balk at that Griffin points out how good Tatum is.Here are those rumors:

Lakers have to go all in on AD. Just need Rich Paul to get really vocal about the Lakers being the final destination in 12months no matter what. Can't imagine anyone would pay more for an AD 1yr rental (Paul George counter-arguments aside)
Laker offer:
#4
#7 or #8 (Ball moved to PHX or CHI)
Plus Ingram, Kuzma, Wagner
Plus a future protected 1st round pick
Laker's then go for Kyrie with Butler or Kemba as fallbacks?
That would stop our Lakerfreude cold in its tracks.
Neither is DSJ though. Would much rather take a flier on Garland or White if I am PHOThe available point guard options this year are not terribly inspiring.
Begging for a photoshop with Lebron's face.Lakers have to go all in on AD. Just need Rich Paul to get really vocal about the Lakers being the final destination in 12months no matter what.
Yeah, if the Lakers are going all in it’s going to include a Billy King stretch where Griffin gets two or three firsts and swap rights to a couple of others. If the Pelicans trade AD to the Lakers and allow them to protect a future first....I'd think Griffin holds out for unprotected, telling the Lakers "Look, you have AD and Lebron, what's the big deal?" and if they balk at that Griffin points out how good Tatum is.
Hell, I’d throw 4/54 at Terry Rozier before I traded a 6 for DSJ.Neither is DSJ though. Would much rather take a flier on Garland or White if I am PHO
Same here. DSJ was the 9th pick 2 years ago and has shown just about nothing in those years. To think that someone will throw the 6th pick to get him is kinda ludicrousHell, I’d throw 4/54 at Terry Rozier before I traded a 6 for DSJ.
I don't get the Pelicans as a destination for Smart but Griffin may be looking to flip him if he is part of the return. I also simply don't ever want Marcus Smart playing for another team. I know thats irrational but I will go to the grave with that sentiment. He is my favorite Celtic of the past 25 years after Pierce and KG.
I like him too buddy. But, you give him up to get Anthony Davis every time.I don't get the Pelicans as a destination for Smart but Griffin may be looking to flip him if he is part of the return. For a rental that’s a franchise killing price. The only way I’d have any interest is if Davis agrees to an extend & trade, which would at least give Boston two years to put a contender around him before they’d need to consider rebuild mode.I don't get the Pelicans as a destination for Smart but Griffin may be looking to flip him if he is part of the return. Pretty sure BOS can't extend Davis. I posted a Forbes article somewhere in one of these threadsFor a rental that’s a franchise killing price. Griffin probably thinks that if Tatum makes the leap, Zion, Tatum, Drew, Smart is a good team sooner than later. I expressed concern upthread that he might think exactly this, and with Zion in the fold, the appeal of Smart goes up even more.I don't get the Pelicans as a destination for Smart but Griffin may be looking to flip him if he is part of the return. Franchise killing Lol come on now. Like RedOctober said you do that deal 100 times out of 100 for AD. The Raptors are living proof that sometimes you gotta go for it no matter what & Ainge needs to do the same. Get AD, a top 5 player & figure out the rest after. Boston can’t, but New Orleans can. It would be messy, Davis has to pick up his option and Boston needs to pay the full trade kicker on all three years, but at that point the money difference over the next three years becomes negligible. But doing that also requires sending Hayward someplace like Indiana to make the deal work.Pretty sure BOS can't extend Davis. I posted a Forbes article somewhere in one of these threads
If Davis walks after Boston has pushed in its most valuable trade chip there isn’t much left. Basically we’d be looking at either a mid aughts rebuilding period or becoming the new Heat and fighting for one of the last two playoff spots. And there wouldn’t be any Nets picks there to add premium talent. Just the prayer that they hit a home run on a mid first, which dos happen from time to time, but it’s not really a great rebuilding plan.Franchise killing Lol come on now. I am skeptical that 1) Ainge would toss that many assets to NO, or 2) there is another better package than Tatum + Smart + lotto pickI’d be shocked if any Davis trade got done without it. Tatum and roleplayers doesn’t exactly look like the best available package without it.
Yes, but they are getting Tatum. He is the prize and a somewhat down sophomore season doesn't change his outlook all that much#14 in a three player draft isn’t exactly what teams usually expect when they ask for a lottery pick. Even leaving aside the fact that 2019 is a roleplayer draft, #14 is still just mid first round pick.
In Irving’s case it was a money thing, he signed his max pre-cap jump and extensions are always based on the value of the current contract. New Orleans doing an extend & trade of Davis would (theoretically) ameliorate the money factor because the 15% trade kicker would make up most of the difference in earnings in a three year window. But I agree he wouldn’t do it with Boston as it’s not on his list of preferred teams. Is there a compelling reason the CBA doesn't allow a team and a player to sign an extension early? If Kyrie meant what he said in October, what would have been the harm in allowing him to sign a contract back then that would kick in this July 1? Or if we traded for AD, let him sign an extension now that would kick in after next season?
I know the NBA loves off-season drama, but it hurts the on-court product.
