KC is a good story, but the A's have the staff to potentially go all the way.  I don't know why people would be rooting for KC over Oakland here - anyone want to make the (obviously subjective) case for it?

I'm with you, not sure what all the KC love is all about. Oh well, great game either way.

I mean, the Royals have zero chance against the Angels, but man, this is gonna be fun.

True, but baseball.

I can still recall Bob Costas starting the 1988 World Series by stating that the lineup the Dodgers were starting in Game 1 against the A's was arguably the worst ever to start for a World Series team.

Soto injury the tipping point? Would have stopped a steal or two surely.

Except that Lester was clearly uncomfortable with him behind the plate

As much as I hated the baseball of this game, if I could get to Kansas City, I think Kaufman would be a great stadium to watch a playoff game.

It was absolutely electric night. The only thing that rivaled this was PNC Park last year, and that was unreal with the blackout and everything.

It's definitely in the book too, whether that was for good copy I don't know. But I bet at least he's not hanging out in camera view, I've never seen him once during a game.

I'm gonna guess you're a fan of the Yankees, Canadiens, Lakers, and Cowboys.

He does weird stuff, like drives around and checks the radio every 15 minutes, or he goes to the gym or even a movie.

then i'm just going to assume he's alone at a darkened mausoleum slowly shedding tears from the 200-level while grasping to an old am radio.

The 1-2-3 second inning Soto was still in the game wasn't he? It's not the first game ever that Jon has had a poor 1st inning.

You pretty much just outlined exactly why a lot of people are rooting for KC. Underdogs are more fun to see win because the odds are stacked against them; it's much of the reason the general population rooted for us vs the Yankees in 2004 and why they hate the Yankees, Lakers, Patriots, Duke, etc.

Royals have starting pitching that can miss bats. I see no reason not to give them the standard 1-in-8 chance of winning the whole thing, including something close to a 50/50 shot of ousting Anaheim.

Not at all, Boston sports across the board since birth. Just can't pull myself to root against all the former Sox players and Beane is literally "all in" this year.
An OAK LAA series would have been fantastic.
Ill be rooting for the Pirates tomorrow if that makes you feel better.

He was on the Men in Blazers podcast recently and talked about how he never watches the games.  He said that he needs to remain unemotional to be an effective GM and watching the games has the opposite effect on him.  It was pretty interesting to hear, actually.

I have no idea how the GM of a baseball team could not watch a playoff game but Beane is a bit of a strange egg.

Melvin: Lester pitched well, gave us the chance to win. Blaming the bullpen and Norris without coming right out and saying it. "Lester just tired in the 8th".

Adam Dunn's first chance to play past the standard 162 ... never gets in the game

Root for the drama. PNC is gonna rock tomorrow. They're not gonna let the Royals upstage them.

Orioles/Tigers will be fun, Cards/Dodgers will be a rematch of last year's ALCS, and you know Puig will do something stupid.

Nice to see fans refraining from interfering with Hosmer's hit to left.  I really think somebody in the stands could've gotten a hand on that one.

I'll give the TBS guys credit for one thing: they were silent for a couple of minutes after it was over, letting the pictures and noise tell the story. That was rare, and cool. Also, pretty cool that SoSH generates 1300+ posts for a non-Sox game. What a game.

I know it didn't pan out but I still have to give Beane credit for going all in this year. He thought this A's team had it in them to win a title and went for it, damn the torpedoes.
