“@McCulloughStar: More Volquez on Donaldson: ”He’s not Barry Bonds. He’s got three years in the league.“”

“@McCulloughStar: Edinson Volquez on Josh Donaldson: ”He’s a little baby. He was crying like a baby.“”

MIN 4-10 in their last 14 and LAA 1-8 in their last 9 (and losing 2-0 in the 5th again today) has really opened up both AL wild card spots, six teams ((BAL, TOR, TB, TEX, DET, CHI) are within 3.5 games of MIN and 4.5 of LAA if they lose today.

There's no way that hitting Donaldson in the first was intentional.  Then the pitch in the 7th was up and in, and may have been a message, but certainly Donaldson overreacted.

Umps probably blew it by not tossing Madson when he plunked Tulo, but the Sanchez HBP was intentional and he had to get thrown out.  Plus John Gibbons is a douche.

Syndergaard is so nasty.  Stating the obvious, but Alex Anthopoulopodopolous sure as hell regrets the Dickey trade right now.

Well, they have a ways to go to threaten the Pawsox game, and this isn't the majors, but it's interesting and I didn't really see anywhere else that would get eyeballs:

The GCL game on 7/31 between the Tigers and Blue Jays was suspended in the bottom of the 23rd inning, with the Tigers up 5-4. The Blue Jays have a runner on and one out. The game will be completed on 8/17.

Over 50,000 fans watching Price's Toronto debut. Just pitched out of bases loaded, nobody out jam in fourth. 75 pitches so far. The Jays may wear him out down the stretch, the way Milwaukee did with CC in 2008. What's to lose? They bought his arm for 2-3 months.

I think it would be kind of interesting if they managed to keep him. The games in Toronto back when SkyDome was new and the Jays were good were something to behold. It'd be fun to really have reason to hate them again.

It would be good for MLB if Toronto became a great baseball town again. Their fans are so optimistic. They gave Price a standing ovation today when he went out to warm up before the game.

He is into the 7th now with a 3-1 lead. Heading for 105 pitches.

Price goes 8, retires last 15 in a row, 118 pitches total.

LaTroy Hawkins, still throwing 96 mph at age 42, finishes it off.

Bet the Yankees are going to regret not getting a starter after it's all said and done.

Saw two games there back when it was still SkyDome. With the roof open it's a pretty good park. If they can get grass in there like they hope (and maybe make the outfield fences more interesting with seats right behind the wall) it could be really good.

A front office acting purely out of self interest mortgaging the future for a chance at a coin flip playoff game. The division is still a long shot. Days like this make the Price/Tulo trades seem worth it but the reward still isn't worth it if it means a depleted system and a 75 win team over the next five years.

Though I can't blame 50,000 long suffering Jays fans for living in the moment and enjoying this brief success.

Meh. The Blue Jays are in a pretty good position financially. Buerhle is gone next year and they have options on Dickey, Bautista, and Encarnación. They're only locked into Martin and Tulo who will continue to provide value.

And they aren't a bad team hoping to get lucky down the stretch. They're tied with STL for the best run differential in baseball at +110.

I think the division is still in play. The Jays have six games with the Yankees in the next two weeks. The Yankees' pen is great but the starters and shaky and Slappy and Seabiscuit HAVE to cool off a little, right?

They're 5.5 back with two months to go and bolstered their team quite a bit last week. NYY has weaknesses in the rotation and the Tex/Arod offensive juggernaut will certainly calm down IMO going forward due to law of averages.

They're definitely not out of the divisional race.

AJP with a 2 run bomb with 2 out in the Bottom of the 9th to tie the game at 7.  Would be brutal for the Giants to lose this one to the Braves after leading 6-0 after 5.

Giants announcers were calling for all outside pitches so if he went deep it would have to be oppo. So, Posey calls for an inside low fastball, and, POW. Surprised at Posey there.

Adrian Beltre due up 5th in the Bottom of the 4th.  If he hits a HR, he will have hit for the cycle in the first 4 innings.

Missed it by one inning. Homered in the fifth

Well, SF took the lead 8-7 in the top of the 12th, but proceeded to lose on a walk-off two run homer in the bottom of the 12th

ChiSox down by a run with Alexei on 2nd with no outs in the Bottom of the 9th.  Adam Eaton with a bloop single to Center.  Alexei is thrown out at home by about 20 feet.  Just an absolutely brutal send by the 3rd base coach.  One of the worst you will ever see in a clutch situation.

That division's fascinating. I really thought the Angels needed a starter at the deadline

To bump who, Shoemaker? Heaney/Santiago/Richards have all been very good, Jered Weaver has not but probably isn't going anywhere, and Shoemaker seems like he's been a perfectly fine back of the rotation guy.

Shoemaker was actually excellent for 136 innings last year too. Has had trouble with the long ball so far this year, but has been very good his last two starts.
