Random question but has anything come out about Lynch getting fined for grabbing his balls at the end of his TD run that gave the Seahawks the lead? IIRC he got fined for doing it last week or at the end of the regular season so curious to see if it keeps escalating.

I think they should suspend him for the Super Bowl and teach him a lesson.

Sherman and Chancellor too.

And Wilson.

With the belief that Seattle has good pass coverage, I'd be interested to see the completion percentage against the SEA defense broken down by field location. Are they more susceptible to short passes over the middle? Mid-range passes to the sidelines?

You can see some of that in the DVOA here: http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teamdef

The appear to be better than average against everything DVOA accounts for on that page except deep middle and passes to the RB.

Not only is Pete a former Patriots coach, BB and Pete are former Jets head coaches. BB for 1 day in 2000 and Pete in 1994. Adds insult to injury to the gang green franchise.

#18 against the TE and RB is an encouraging sign to what my eyes have seen from them this season.  Pats have multiple options this game out of the backfield.  I think we will see different players(i.e. Vereen, Edelman, maybe even Tim Wright) out of the backfield to take advantage of their weakness in that part of the passing game.

Jesus that is awful. To compare a come back in sports to the civil rights movement and a man who died fighting for the rights of others is awful.

Agreed. The standard gratitude for his sacrifice that he might be not by unjustly barred from using his God given talents to pursue his dream is the obvious way to go here.

That? That's sorta grotesque.

You couldn't leave it alone

- Johnny in the karate kid.

Yes, Pete was the coach of the jets when Marino fake spike td'ed us effectively ending the jets season that year and Pete's time running the show.

I really like both HCs, the media hate the Pats get might make me slightly favor them.

I'm interested in what the game plan will be against Seattle. Are the pats going to go after Lynch the way they targeted Faulk? What is Seattle going to do if an offensive lineman lines up in front of Sherman?

I hadn't even realized it was the team account and not Wilson's. Wilson seems reasonably educated in his faith (as off-putting as some here find it)--I wonder what he'll think of it once he sees it if he hasn't already.

Re: the 'How will they stop Marshawn Lynch?' narrative - the guy did play for parts of four seasons in the AFC East.

Overall record vs. NE - 0-4 with the Bills, 1-0 with the Seahawks.  Total of 70 carries, 265 yards, 1 TD.

We shall overcome being the preseason favorites to win the Super Bowl (6-1) odds
We shall overcome being the favorite in the divisional round
We shall overcome being the favorite in the NFC Championship
We shall overcome being a pick'em in the Super Bowl

Oh wait, all of those things are in their favor? What are they overcoming again?

At least they didn't put a white player up there.

Maybe they hoped this made Wilson seem more black.

Why, pray tell, does anyone think that the Seahawks are concerned that Wilson seems insufficiently black?

Because rumors swirled his teammates didn't think he was black enough. It's a joke.

There was one Bleacher Report piece from Mike Freeman that created what should have been at best a tempest in a teapot that kept being re-reported by hacks who said there are "reports" that this was said. It was sorta bullshit, was attacked by pretty much everyone who matters in the organization and may be traceable to a disgruntled player, and even referring to it as "rumors" gives it more respect than the whole thing deserves.

We're just a message board, sure, but honestly, we try to stay above that shit, yeah?

Here
I think you test him immediately by lining up Gronk outside and throwing him a quick pass. Make Sherman execute the tackle, and see what you are dealing with.

My sister is an athletic trainer and she said that a sprained elbow will not be 100% in 13 days.  Says he'll have to wear a protective brace, but will have trouble with any physical contact.

On the dislocated shoulder, Thomas will have to be put in a range of motion brace to restrict the direction that caused his shoulder to dislocate.

Says they'll be functional and shot up with so many drugs, but their games will be affected.

@Seahawks: We apologize for poor judgment shown in a tweet sent earlier. We did not intend to compare football to the civil rights legacy of Dr. King.

Yeah, it's Sherman's left elbow, which is his outside arm (he always lines up on the left of the defense).

I'd expect some outside throws his way, as well as Gronk getting split out to his side. Test the strength in that arm early with the big boy.

Injuries are going to be a big storyline these next 2 weeks.  Seattle has Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, and Justin Britt all banged up while New England only has Bryan Stork to worry about.
Isn't Edelman fighting a bum hip?

Does anyone think that Browner will be able to offer special insight in this regard?

I think Alan Branch may be able to help with insight on Seattle as well since he played for them 2010-2012.

I have this weird calm feeling about this game. After putting Baltimore to pasture, it feels like the Pats are unstoppable. This is different than 07 and 11 when they were kind of limping into the SB.

I'm right there with you. The second half of the season, the defense has been lights out - the second half of games in particular. The one TD to the Ravens was about it. Which tells you that even when teams have been able to find something to exploit, Belichich has the tools to take it away completely. Yes, the hawks have Lynch, but he is absolutely the one thing Bill will scheme to take away. And the Pats secondary is so good right now, that probably can be done without too much risk. As for the Pats offense, it has more tools than I can ever remember. 2007 was a fun ride, but even that team did not have the huge array of options that this one does. Absent a Brady-disrupting powerful rush up the middle (not a Seattle strength), I don't see anyway that Seattle can keep them from scoring, and scoring often.

I can totally see how they slow NE's offense down.

They have one of the very best run defenses in the NFL.  I don't think NE's running game really scares them.

They have one of the best coverage units in the NFL.  I think they are pretty confident that they can match up with NE's receiving weapons.  Maybe Thomas/Chancellor ends up on Gronk.  We'll see.

I bet that, even though they don't generate a ton of sacks, they are pretty confident that they can put pressure on Brady, cover tight, and make Brady throw over the top - not a NE passing strength.

I don't think they can shut NE out, but I think they're pretty confident they can hold NE's offense down pretty well.

Will the needle be done pregame or will the expanded halftime allow for a second injection while Katy Perry performs?

MMMD 2: Earl Thomas shoulder subluxation

Star safety Earl Thomas injured his left shoulder early in the game. By video, he subluxed (shifted in and out) his left shoulder. Seahawks' fans worried when he headed for the locker room but he returned with a shoulder harness and finished the game.

The specific injury was not officially confirmed but Thomas implied that his shoulder shifted in post-game interviews, and the brace is used to treat an unstable shoulder. A MRI may show a labral tear and he might even need offseason surgery but there is no way he will miss the Super Bowl. “I don’t care if I can’t function really well. I know if I can help the team, I’m going to be out there.” Although there is no question that he will play, his injury is likely a bigger issue than Sherman’s.

Thomas changed his tackling technique when he returned. Instead of reaching out and wrapping up (which is how he hurt his shoulder and how it is vulnerable), he kept his arm at his side and lowered his left shoulder on a big hit that drove Eddie Lacy into the Seahawks bench. There is not doubt he will use a similar shoulder brace for the Super Bowl. The harness restricts motion and keeps his shoulder stable by holding it closer to his body.
