What a joke of a league and officiating. No consistency in the level of contact that causes a penalty to be called.

If a ref starts gesticulating wildly after the play stops, he's very nearly always wrong.

85.3 Puck Out of Sight - Should a scramble take place or a player accidentally fall on the puck and the puck be out of sight of the Referee, he shall immediately blow his whistle and stop the play. The puck shall then be faced-off at the nearest face-off spot in the zone where the play was stopped unless otherwise provided for in the rules.

Good point. That's two independent reasons that goal should not have happened.

Yeesh.

Not to mention, the puck went out of play AGAIN by the Columbus bench right before the goal. Twice on the same shift. Horrendous.

Despite that, the Bruins look horrendous. They don't remotely deserve to win.

Who cares about the missed puck out of play call. They had plenty of chances over the 1:40 robot give up a goal. This team is dog shit right now. Chiarelli needs to get off his ass and figure out what they are and a game plan going forward really fucking quick because right now they suck.

And it is generally safe to assume that the on ice officials are going to miss the obvious.

So um....what the fuck is going on with this team? This can't possibly be all due to the lack of Iginla and Boychuk.

Here are Tuukka Rask's save percentages by year - one of these things is not like the others:

09-10: .931
10-11: .918
11-12: .929
12-13: .929
13-14: .930
14-15: .910

Is he having a bad half-season, helped on by the rest of the team's problems, or is he a different player now?

For comparison purposes, here's another goalie who cratered after getting the big bucks:

07-08: .920
08-09: .906
09-10: .920
10-11: .921
-------------
11-12: .909
12-13: .900
13-14: .909

Special Teams have stood out to me of late: (Hope this data posts successfully). Team Shooting Percentage is 21st as well. They have been mediocre across the board—from the goaltender out. It looks like they're playing with zero confidence which might be a result of the crippling injuries and the loss of key pieces but they need to get on a roll somehow, and they certainly need to come with more energy from the opening face-off. They are playing from behind all the fucking time. It's nauseating.

No chance would I have paid Iginla what the Avs paid him, but have to wonder if losing his fire and then losing Boychuk did some damage with the chemistry. They seem like they're slow out of the gate in every game. Ugly.
