Yup, and even more why I don't want Josh back. Him and BOB were coaches during his playing time and that might create a weird dynamic, and Josh was the heir apparent before Mayo. Maybe none of that would matter but I'd rather remove the chance completely. I want new voices on the O sideI think this is a good thing. Allows Mayo to start fresh without pressure.
Nah he’ll go to Atlanta to run Belichick’s offense.Thank God. With the way things ended up Philly, you have to think this is being held for Matt Patricia.
lol. That’s good. He's going to fly to Columbus 3 yards at a time.
i think he wants to go to OSU, have their offense put up big numbers (basically every college job he's had the QB had a huge year) then get a premium HC job if he wants it. Plus OSU probably pays more for it's OC than an NFL team, or than most colleges pay their HC.I'm surprised. I would have thought he might have a shot at a head coaching job in the college ranks.
Personally, I hope they stay away from Josh. Clean break please.
Perhaps I need my sarcasm meter checked, but I think it’s unlikely Mac is on the team next season. He may well have a career ahead of him as a backup, or may even develop into a below-average but capable starter. But not here.Unless Josh is rehired, Mac (if he's back) will have had five OC in four seasons
No sarcasm intended, which is why I included the "if" with MacPerhaps I need my sarcasm meter checked, but I think it’s unlikely Mac is on the team next season. He may well have a career ahead of him as a backup, or may even develop into a below-average but capable starter. But not here.
No. Ohio State pays big money. This is a good move for him career wise.Very happy with this.
Isn’t this a step down for Bob?
I heard Jac Mones entering the transfer portal.O’Brien will be bringing with him a suspiciously older looking “recruit” named Zac Jones.
As they damn well should be.I think there is a pretty good chance the entire offensive staff gets whacked.
I wouldn't, he was pretty terrible this year when he didn't have Reid to lean on as the playcaller, and he does not appear to have endeared himself to the players in the lockerroomI'd be interested in Mayo looking at maybe trying to get Eric Bieniemy.
Can’t they just whack Mac 100 times instead? As they damn well should be.
Yeah they have to know that putting a non-believer in charge won’t endear them to their religiously conservative boosters.Between this and them hiring aggy atheistic director Bjork, I’m convinced they’re trying to tank the program. No other explanation.
Isn't McDaniels almost certainly going with BB to ATL or wherever he ends up?Nick Caley and Keenan McCardell interviewed for the position last season. Maybe they get a second look from Mayo.
McDaniels has to be considered the favorite right now though. He’s been hanging around the team since the last week of the season.
Probably so. I would think Rothstein goes with BOB. Klemm is already gone. The new OC probably picks the other position coaches. Would love to see Troy do something with his coaching career but it doesn't seem off to a great start.I think there is a pretty good chance the entire offensive staff gets whacked.
That would make some sense. I agree with the posters above that I don't want him back here -- let Mayo coach without the ghosts of the past hanging over him.Isn't McDaniels almost certainly going with BB to ATL or wherever he ends up?
It also seems like following BB is best for JMcD’s career and gives him the best chance at ever being a HC again. Hitch oneself to BB, hope for success, and be well positioned as BB’s recommended successor. Perhaps a long shot, but may be the best hope he’s got. That would make some sense. I agree with the posters above that I don't want him back here -- let Mayo coach without the ghosts of the past hanging over him.
He could fire everyone and all Krafts could die, and the team could move to Dubuque, and the ghosts of the past would still be there. If Mayo wants McD, thats good enough for me. McDs skills as an OC are beyond me to evaluate. That would make some sense. A story I have heard (thirdhand account from someone who has worked for BOB) is that BOB thinks Mayo is a fraud and would never have worked for him. Given the vague sourcing I would view a claim like this skeptically, but it is what I heard. And there we go, rumors were right.
Big impact on the Patriots' OC search I'd assume (also may be an indication Mayo didn't want him back).
I don’t know. It’s a long way to Dubuque. He could fire everyone and all Krafts could die, and the team could move to Dubuque, and the ghosts of the past would still be there. If Mayo wants McD, thats good enough for me. McDs skills as an OC are beyond me to evaluate.
This third-hand account you have passed along, thereby making it fourth hand, that you yourself are skeptical of leaves me feeling…skeptical.A story I have heard (thirdhand account from someone who has worked for BOB) is that BOB thinks Mayo is a fraud and would never have worked for him. Not that this clarifies anything matters much, but if BOB is hand 1 in this story, I am hand 4 and you all are hand 5.This third-hand account you have passed along, thereby making it fourth hand, that you yourself are skeptical of leaves me feeling…skeptical.
Wasn't aware McDaniels was still around. I'd be OK with him. Still hope they look at some of others around the league and college.McDaniels has to be considered the favorite right now though. He’s been hanging around the team since the last week of the season.
You’re forgetting that he “just has to be Mac”. So, it we’ll be Mac MonesO’Brien will be bringing with him a suspiciously older looking “recruit” named Zac Jones.
I doubt Judge and Achord are returning. Mayo already sought permission to interview the Falcons ST coordinator. Staff changes were inevitable. It’s not like this was some amazing staff. Frankly the only coaches I want back are BB’s kids and DL coach Covington. Everyone else can take a hike.I hope Josh comes in — the loss of the HC, OC, at least one of the co-DC’s (Mayo moves up and Steve B TBD). the OL coach, and more losses to come following BB wherever is too much of a clean break for me.
Also I fear it makes Achord and Judge more likely to be asked to return, and that’s the dead wood I really want cleared.
