I laid $20 on the USC money line (+125) so this shitshow is clearly my fault.

This USC offense is a bit like the Texas aggy offense under Sumlin when Manziel was there - give the ball to the Heisman winner and let him figure it out.

Caleb Williams has horrible mechanics. Throws off his backfoot, side throws, can't adjust to hybrid coverage, all this jazz that works only if you are Mahomes. Wouldn't want a part of him at 1-1. Incredible raw tools but he plays like he has everything mastered. Maye is such a more complete QB at this age by brains.

Penix worries me that Ryan Grubb's offensive system, great as it is, is too air raid focused. He's a project for sure.

Maye also has a thing where he isn’t patient and runs too soon (works at this level but he doesn’t have Mahomes speed for it at the next level, let alone Lamar.)

Thanks for this. That said: This is a flaw I think you can coach out of a guy more easily, comparing the two passers. Knowing the speed of the game and where you don't have it becomes readily apparent. It isn't also flash, it's more utilitarian. Caleb out here tries to do so to flash like the cameras for his paparazzi entourage. It also seems like it's a smaller part of Maye's game, by rate of concern.

In FCS football, #3 Idaho Vandals take on #10 Montana Grizzlies in the battle for The Little Brown Stein airing on ESPN2.

I have similar concerns about Penix Jr. but each successive (passing?) week he shows something. His weapons and protection are elite but his accuracy is pretty impressive. Better to the eye than, say, Williams.

We* (FD) have Penix -140, Gabriel +750, McCarthy +900, Travis +1200, Daniels and Maye +2000, Bo and Caleb both at +3000.

*I say we because I help set the lines there, that's my line of work these days. :)
Congrats on the *

Apparently while catching eight balls for 128 yards and two TDs, Rome Odunze was also supposedly playing with a punctured lung. If thats true, his draft status just went up even more. Football guy.
