Look, I love Deion, he is probably the best Nole ever. I’ll take Brian Kelly as my coach. For recruiting, yes.

I assume there’s no way he coaches their bowl ( or playoff) game. Freeman? Reese? After very mixed feelings about Kelly early on, I came to appreciate the job he’s done with the program. The ten-ish year itch of that job strikes again.Look, I love Deion, he is probably the best Nole ever. I’ll take Brian Kelly as my coach.
Fewer confrontations with the admissions department?Other than money, why the hell would Kelly make this move?
Desperate for a national title before his window closes, and figures the SEC is a better avenue than South Bend maybe.Other than money, why the hell would Kelly make this move?
I think this is probably it. He's 60, so he probably has one big jump left in him, and this is a pretty big splash.Desperate for a national title before his window closes, and figures the SEC is a better avenue than South Bend maybe.
Stolen from twitter: Red ass meets coonassOther than money, why the hell would Kelly make this move?
Fought with ND admin over facilities upgrades that they wouldn’t give him. He wanted renovations to football center that gave players upgraded nutrition and training areas plus a players lounge.Other than money, why the hell would Kelly make this move?

More crazy is two took coaches from the others. Don’t think a blue blood has poached another one ever, and happened twice in 24 hours.Has there ever been a year where 4 blue bloods have coach openings? USC, LSU, ND, OU? Add in Florida which is tier 2 and man what a time to be alive.
And if Fickell is ND first choice can the wait until Cincy is out? Timing in that is tough too.Kelly to LSU makes some sense. He's a good coach (very underrated) and, as others have pointed out in this thread, winning in the SEC is easier than at Notre Dame given academic requirements and financial support (not that Notre Dame is poor). Of course, the SEC, in-conference schedule is daunting...
This is horrible timing, though. ND has a chance at the playoff, and Kelly's gonna leave before they find out if they're in or not? I imagine the ND players feeling quite betrayed, and rightfully so.
Yep. Imagine ND and Cincy in the playoff with interim coaches. Crazy. And if Fickell is ND first choice can the wait until Cincy is out? Timing in that is tough too.
Doesn’t have to be that nutty. Baylor and Dawgs win should do it.ND isn’t getting in without something really nutty. Watch for Matt Campbell to ND.
2 loss Alabama still gets the call, very likely.Doesn’t have to be that nutty. Baylor and Dawgs win should do it.
Add Iowa and two of three might do it.Doesn’t have to be that nutty. Baylor and Dawgs win should do it.
He also did the equivalent of breaking up with your significant other via text. This is how he told the teamFrom Matt Fortuna:
“This is usually how these things go, but Brian Kelly has ghosted everyone at Notre Dame. Just spoke to one assistant who saw reports on his phone tonight as he was exiting a recruit's home: "The news broke when I walked out of the house, so I look like a f----- a--hole."
If I’m a player on that team I sleep in.10PM text for a 7AM meeting next morning. Stay classy, BK.
Or walk out en masseIf I’m a player on that team I sleep in.
You are taking about a coach who should have served jail time for ordering a student to stay in the coaching tower during the storm that killed him.The current environment and recruiting schedule makes “classy” departures impossible. I’m a lifetime ND fan, and it sucks to have this happen before the final playoff standings are announced. But he’s hardly unique making this kind of move.
If this is aimed at me, I’d point out that my comment was refuting the defense of Kelly.Everyone keeps talking about "class" but what exactly is a "classy" way to leave for another major program? The text message for a meeting seems like it's a no go. I assume that would be the same with calling a meeting and blindsiding the team, which you probably can't do nowadays with social media and reports leaking. I'm sure there are a few other options out there but not sure how any would be construed as "classy".
I don't know, man.winning in the SEC is easier than at Notre Dame given academic requirements and financial support (not that Notre Dame is poor). Of course, the SEC, in-conference schedule is daunting...
My guess is that S&R was talking about the ability to recruit top athletes without worrying whether the admissions department would allow them to enroll.I don't know, man.
If you are talking about winning a national title, I'd argue it's much harder to win one in the SEC. As you mention, that conference schedule is brutal and Alabama seems to reload like crazy every year.
ND usually has what, one or two "hard" games on the schedule each year?
The last 3 coaches have won titles at LSU. It's a football program masquerading as a university*.I don't know, man.
