Hell of a team- finished 1st place in HE, won the Beanpot, won the HE tournament then capped it off by 19 straight wins and a chip. That is a clean sweep.

Soooo.... was there a dead guy in the BC section near the ice? 2nd row, peach shirt, dark hair?
'Cause they showed him a bunch of times with a bunch of people jumping and dancing around him and he never moved.

Jerry York is the second best Coach in the New England area now. The guy is as classy as it gets. Congrats to BC and all their fans.

My kid is happy. And so am I. BC didn't play as well as in previous games but that may have been because of Ferris State. Great goal by Johnny to clinch it. So glad he didn't end up at Northeastern.

Wow ... Northeastern just keeps getting their misfortune rubbed in their faces. Kid's a big time player.

Sigh... I really don't like BC, but after how things went down, I guess I have to feel happy for him.

I'm just pissed the program managed to mess up everything they built under Cronin so quickly. Gaudreau should have been a Husky and would've been if Cronin was still here.

I'd say maybe next year, but... well... yea...

< --------at least it wasn't this guy passed out in the stands

ok its hours later so now I can post, unless you saw my thoughts on twitta and FB last night.. I was ascared shitless all thru the 2nd and 3rd until Goodreau's goal you know one funny bounce, like there was off the back boards, and its all tied up. even deep into the 19-0 run something i never thought this would happen, but as a typical Jerry team, they got their legs in Jan and it was trophy time x4

Ferris played great and stuck with their game, can't say enough about them and their goalie stood on his head much of the game..

to correct what Melrose (why the fuck wasn't he wearing a Ferris St jersey in the booth the way he was rooting for them) we don't rebuild, we reload

and above all other reasons to be happy this morning SUX2BU

Here's the kid that Nap was talking about, I'm sure he's a friend of kenney's with that pink [salmon] polo. It'd be better if he was Bernie Lomax.
I think I had noticed him before then even. He was still sitting like that when the game ended too. He may still be there for all I know.
It was one of the stranger things I saw yesterday. And I live a block away from where this is happening. I honestly couldn't decide if he was dead or a Bernie doll. If they had played Movin' Like Bernie and he got up and started to dance my life might have been complete.

From one Bernie to another....Pink guy ain't no Bernie. But in all seriousness, it is unbelievable what Jerry has done with that program. He has been to 7 Frozen 4's, I believe he has been to 5 title games and won the thing 4 times since 2001. If you add in the Frozen 4 in Boston in '99 or '00, that is 8 FF's, 6 title games and 4 national titles. Since 2001 only one other franchise in North America has anything close to that.....and they are located 45 minutes south of Chestnut Hill.

The only thing that sullies this at all is that Little Napoleon is able to pop off at alumni dinners that the hockey team is this or that, etc. and that Ahole has had absolutely nothing to do with it. Where do you think it would be if he had been selecting the coach?? All this begs the question....if BC can do this in hockey, why can't it do it in basketball and/or football???

Congrats BC....all other programs pale in comparison, especially that one further down Comm. Ave. Go Eagles!

It was a closer game than 6-1 but Milner played out of his mind early in the game and the Eagles seemed to bury every chance they had.
I sort of agree, sort of disagree with this. Milner was outstanding, but he also had very few difficult saves as Minnesota could not hit a corner. Going the other way, the Gophers were incredibly lax in their own zone, and BC made them pay with high-quality finishes.

Ferris put up much more of a fight in the championship, but wound up being undone by their own inability to find a quality finish. As I predicted before the game, it wound up being an awful lot like ND's loss in 2008: they played hard and looked like they belonged, but just weren't able to overcome the gulf in offensive talent.

Hey Huskies...Goudreau is good
*facepalm*

What on earth makes you think NU was happy to see him go?

I just came here to say....woot!

3 in 5 years. Ridiculous. I want a sample of Jerry York's DNA to clone a new Jerry once this one retires.
Congrats to Eagles fans. If York's close to retiring, than I'm really old as dirt, as I remember him as a player. Wish my old man was around to see these recent teams. The cool thing about BC hockey in the 60s was they wouldn't give scholarship dollars to Canadian kids, as they wanted to help develop US hockey. That shut them out of some of the best prospects, and made them perennial doormats for BU and Cornell. That, and giving a roster spot to the AD's kid. His name was Flynn as I recall and was a worthless pylon of a d-man. He got a lot of verbal abuse from the home town fans in McHugh forum.

Gionta, Gerbe, Gaudreau, BC sure has that recruiting niche down to a science.

For those of you that are Eagles fans, Tuesday there will be parade at 5:30 from Conte to Oneill Plaza, followed by a celebration around 6 with special guests and former players, and an autograph session around 6:30.

Congrats to BC, 3 in 5 is jaw-dropping.

that was all Snooks doin, in fact I think that Kris Kolanos who scored the OT winner in the Nat Champ game in 2001 was the first canadian to lace'em up for BC. I don't remember any of Bill Flynn's kids getting any ice time, but I do remember that in the infamous first ever Beanpot that Northeastern won (wayne turner in OT) Lenny had the 4th line out there when NU scored the tying goal late in the 3rd

and his son was center on the 4th line

Hell, it was a big deal when Clemmensen came to the team. He was from Iowa, which might as well have been a foreign country.

Hockey East voted today to invite Uconn for the 2014-15 season. new arena going to be built on campus. Gives school enough time to ramp up schollies. Win win for everyone, me thinks

edit: the games will be played in hartford at the XL center. at least the HE games will be played there. Uconn will upgrade the on-campus arena. I think this is a bad decision

Statement from the Trouba family: “There is absolutely no truth or merit to the recent media reports that the Kitchener Rangers have...

...offered Jacob any remuneration. We have the utmost respect for the Kitchener Rangers and those that choose the CHL as an option...
Michigan Hockey ‏@umichhockey
...but Jacob will be attending the University of Michigan next fall as a student athlete.”
We already lost an incoming freshman defenseman, Connor Carrick, to Plymouth. Hopefully, nothing develops further with Kitchener. The blue line will have to be strong next season, considering the youth at forward. Trouba certainly will/would contribute to that.

Edit to add: Kitchener is irate. Yikes.

Of course they're irate. They were hoping to slide the payment by under the table.

Same thing happened when Cam Fowler bolted ND. Jeff Jackson said some things about money under the table, the OHL team (London, IIRC) got all huffy about filing a lawsuit, but nothing ever happened---probably because what Jackson said was true. I'd bet nothing ever happens in this case---probably because what they said about the offer was true.

Rather to my surprise, this time, a lawsuit got filed. I'll be interested to see if this goes anywhere. If there's a fight over it, discovery should be hugely entertaining.

UMass hires Vermont associate head coach John Micheletto to take over the Minutemen. Press conference today at 4 pm.

Among this collection of Twitter reactions was this gem:

@FearTheTriangle

So UMass has a coach Micheletto to go with players Czepiel, Olczyk, Auvenshine, Tiefenwerth, Yevenko, Mastalerz. So many potential typos.

Only tangentially related to college hockey, Windsor has been sanctioned by the OHL for recruiting violations. Heeeeeenteresting. (I am shocked that there were under-the-table payments going on there. )

Just got this from BU...

Report of the Men’s Ice Hockey Task Force

In summary, we interpret the information and data we have reviewed to indicate that there are a number of aspects of the culture and climate of the men’s ice hockey program that require action by the University. Some of the issues are serious and require immediate attention at the highest levels of the University. It is important to note that we have not found any evidence to indicate that the problems we have identified are necessarily unique to Boston University. We do believe, however, that if the University is responsive to the recommendations made below, all of our students, not just members of the men’s ice hockey team, will benefit.

Just got this from BU...
This story is getting a lot of play in the Globe right now. Brian Gentry writes an article that begins:
So I just want to make sure I have this right.
The president of Boston University commissions a report to look at just how far the school’s hockey team has gone off the rails. That report, in turn, concludes that hockey players lived in a “culture of sexual entitlement,” constantly given the star treatment, offered every reason to believe they are better than everyone else. In one telling episode, they filled the showers at the Agganis Arena with kegs after winning a championship, skated naked on the ice, and had sex in the penalty boxes.

At other times, two players were charged with sexual assault in a three-month span. That doesn’t include the player who shoved his hands down a woman’s pants even as she punched him to get away. They drank for free at a local bar, regularly skipped classes, and bullied a professor. There are some allusions that their grades were changed for the better. The coach, the legendary Jack Parker, first denied he knew of the infamous post championship party, then admitted that he was aware of drinking in the locker room, even as players told a commission that he had reprimanded the team for its behavior. In other words, Jack Parker apparently lied. This is the stuff you expect to hear from the football factories of the Midwest...

The outrage over the report is funny IMO since this stuff happens to some degree at every college with a hockey presence. Can't say I'm not enjoying that it's happening to BU though.

The report failed to mention that Brandon Yip's (winger on the Preds) future wife was skating around the rink naked holding the championship trophy

First Hockey East conference game tomorrow. Merrimack's coming to Matthews Arena to play Northeastern. Optimistic about a Huskies win here; lots of questions for both teams, but Merrimack lost 4 of their top 5 scorers a year ago, as well as starting goalie Joe Cannata. Merrimack did knock off 2012 Frozen Four Finalist Union on Saturday, though, so we'll see.

Some quick notes on the Huskies this year...

Offense: As head coach Jim Madigan said recently, this is a team that will not lack in offense. They lost Steve Quailer to the pros, but the team more than adequately filled the hole with the addition of USHL scoring leader Kevin Roy (104 pts). Captain Vinny Saponari, Alternate Captain Ludwig Karlsson, Garrett Vermeersch, Cody Ferriero, and Braden Pimm will join him to anchor a strong top 6. Beyond that, look for freshman Cam Darcy to have an impact - his arrival has gotten lost a little in the hype around Roy. Keep an eye on sophomore Adam Reid as well. Reid really helped a depleted offense down the stretch last year.

Defense: The Huskies will sport an overhauled defensive squad this year. Drew Ellement, Josh Manson, and Dan Cornell are the only returners expected to log significant minutes. Names to watch include Army transfer Dax Lauwers, Mike Gunn, and Colton Saucerman. All three are also coming from the USHL. Saucerman, in particular, will be someone to watch; anyone who watched Northeastern last year knows how much the power play struggled. Saucerman put up 14 points in 24 games last year, and the hope is that he can help the unit find more success this year.

Goaltending: This, IMHO, is the key to the whole season for NU. Chris Rawlings (senior) is, statistically, going to go down as one of the top goalies in school history. As a fan, it certainly doesn't seem like it. He's tremendously talented, but very inconsistent. When NU went on their unbeaten run last November/December, knocking off the likes of Notre Dame (twice), Michigan, Minnesota, and UML, Rawlings was a brick wall between the pipes. When they crashed and burned in January/February, he was inconsistent at times and often terrible. I definitely won't be forgetting the goal he let in from the blue line in a tie against Providence. That extra point would've given the Huskies a playoff spot...

Anyways, the point I want to make is this: if Chris Rawlings plays like he can, that's going to help NU in more ways than one. It's going to have a tremendous impact on the young defense and their confidence. If he plays like last spring, though, I can see there being a snowball effect on the defense. It could be a long year. A lot hinges on his performance.

I could see them finishing as high as 4th if everything breaks right or 9th if nothing does (I'd like to think that they'll definitely finish above UVM). In reality, they'll probably be 7th or 8th and might make some noise in the HE tournament.

Well, Jon Merrill sustained a neck fracture last night and will have to wear a neck brace. He's expected to miss 6 weeks. To quote Bubbles from The Wire, "THAT BOY AIN'T GOT NO LUCK."

Quinnipiac got a huge win on the road last week up in Orono upsetting Maine. They come home this weekend for 2 against Robert Morris before Ohio State comes in the following week.
