Michigan takes a 1 game to none lead on the Domers in the Gong Show playoffs:
Chris Brown slips one past the ND goalie whose name I refuse to learn and declares after the game "I just wanted to go to bed." I'm sure he got a good night's rest. The game tonight is sold out and Yost should be rocking. Given that the basketball game is at 4 (ish), I would expect Yost to be extra....rowdy tonight.

Also this...a million times this:
That's Fielding Yost himself. There used to be a picture/banner of him back in the old days. Children of Yost commissioned a new banner of him.

Anyone else watching BU vs. UNH right now on NESN? UNH won last night's Game 1 in double OT. BU just took a 1-0 lead on a late first period power play.

I think BU is on break this week, but this is still a pretty lame showing from their fan section.

It's been like this since the title. Fans spoiled, pro city, too much competition, alleged criminals in the program, plus the beginning of break all factors. Don't think BC had any better of a showing though, and that's a better program right now.

I was kinda shocked last weekend when I visited Agganis. There were quite a few people there but I expected a lot more considering the program's history, the team, and the arena.

I can't remember who tweeted it, but one of the college hockey writers mentioned that they were talking to a BC student who said that the fans don't care/show up until it's the finals. Embarrassing for the #1 team in the nation. I know the NU fan section outnumbered them in the first round of the Beanpot.

BU holds strong and beats UNH 4-2, forcing a Game 3 tomorrow night. I'm tempted to go.

Michigan ends Notre Dame's season with a 3-1 victory. They'll be at the Joe next week along with Western and Miami. Ferris and BGSU will battle to get the last remaining spot tomorrow in the Gong Show playoffs..

In other Hockey East news, BC eliminated UMass with a 3-2 win and Merrimack beat Maine 5-2, forcing a Game 3 tomorrow.

While I didn't see the Merrimack-Maine game, according to the box score here there were a combined 50 penalties for 184 penalty minutes. Holy shit.

BC has the highest home and road attendance in Hockey East.

Huh. Maybe it was BU and I read it wrong. Interesting.

Providence knocked off UML this afternoon. The Friars are going to the Garden for the first time since 2001.

EDIT: nvm

Northeastern also has a lot more undergrads so that may account for it. BC's attendance goes in ebbs and flows and right now is one of those times where they're really popular when students are on campus. Probably because all our other programs are clown shoes right now.

BGSU comes back from a 3-0 deficit to win in OT. Michigan will see them next week at the Joe. Western vs Miami is the other semi. BGSU is the fucking #11 seed. Cinderella story to say the least.

Providence plays BC at 5, and Maine plays BU at around 8 for the HE semis. Maine is obviously going to bring more fans than Providence. (Was hoping to go if it was the reverse so as not to miss (too much of) the Madness)

Oooh, lemme guess, Tim Benedetto?

You can't know, but yes, I said that before I checked the box score.

I didn't see the game, but Benedetto seems to feel that he must play a large role in any game he works. Hockey East refs, on the whole, are subpar when compared to hockey officials from the other conferences.

The ECAC refs I saw this year were consistently awful. Even the Harvard radio guys last night were apparently commenting on the terrible calls that went against Yale - you know things have got to be pretty outrageous to see something like that.

was playing with the Pairwise simulator on ushco.com and realized that if BU beats Maine they are almost a lock to be a #1 seed and prbably get Bridgeport (BC to Worcester). However, if they lose, they could be a #3 seed and at best a #2. Crazy

It doesn't suck at all. Well, I haven't been there in years but it was nice, clean, decent sight lines and all that. It was just fairly generic.
Yost doesn't suck by any means. It's definitely an odd place for hockey though. The building has a very small footprint and the grandstands reach all the way to the outer walls. The concourses are very narrow underneath. However, the lack of space also ensures that all the seats are close to the ice and the grandstands are very steep making the fans feel as if they are right on top of the ice. There are plenty of seats with great, clear, and uninstructed views of the ice. My seats were not those.

Every college hockey fan believes their conference has the worst officials. Benedetto does suck though.

Went to about 10 Quinnipiac home games, and agree wholeheartedly that the ECAC refs are bad.

Hockey East semis tonight! BC-Providence at 5 and then Maine-BU at 8. After knocking off second-seeded UML last weekend, Providence should at least give BC a fight. The real show will be Maine and BU though.

Providence isn't playing like a seventh seed at the moment.

2-2 about halfway through the first.

Also, Millner doesn't suck.

The reffing was horrible in the final 1.5 periods I watched (thanks Red Line for the 2 hour commute home!). BC looked good however. Not exactly sure but I think this may clinch the top overall seed and a spot in Worcester. IIRC Duluth could've caught them but that would've taken a bunch of different things to break its way.

Is Maine still on the bubble? Do they need a win tonight? Playing around with the PairWise predictor, I see them finishing 12th with a loss tonight.

Sullivan was absolutely HUGE in net for Maine tonight, especially in the 3rd period. Great win for the Black Bears. I just hope Spencer Abbott's ok (he took a nasty run into the boards knees-first when his skate lost an edge).

BC-ME for the HE crown tomorrow night. Giddyup...

There was one goal he let in where it looked like he didn't seal off the post. Outside of that he was very, very impressive.

Hopefully Spencer Abbott's ok. BC needs to go down tomorrow night.

The second game was great. A ton of action in the third. The Naine series in January basically turned Milner and BC's season around. 15 in a row with three straight Hockey East and Beanpots would feel quite nice, especially if it's topped off with another NC. Plus BC can't win the NC without winning the HE Tourny.

Apologies if I make any incoherent posts and offend any MAINEiacs (too soon?) tomorrow as I will likely have been drinking. Soar Eagles soar.

Edit: That defenseman who was going for the hatty showed why 99 percent of D will shoot on a breakaway instead of trying to dangle.

Michigan beat BGSU in OT. We have Wasterm on the finals. So...We should win.

EDIT: Also, with the win last night and the losses by UMD, Minnesota, and Miami, Michigan should have the #2 overall seed wrapped up. It's a shame because you all know BC is going to crumble in the tournament. kenneycb knows.
