This was exactly my initial thought as well.
I was rooting hard for Jamaica, not just because it’s Jamaiaca, but because of multiple Wednesday connections (Antonio, Bernard, Hector). That said, man, what a strike. Gotta tip your hat to that one.Mexico 1-0 on a great strike by Arteaga. He has been impressive all night.
couldn't hear the audio bc I was in a sportsbook, but Miami was at least half empty.Uruguay is a world class (i.e., top 20) side, and Colombia isn't far behind. This is the level of competition the USMNT consistently needs to face in order to improve.
I'm loving this CONCACAF-CONMEBOL collab. First and foremost, Americans that already love soccer can go see the games and hopefully this generates even more interest among non-fans. I also imagine this is making the CONMEBOL FAs a lot more money than usual too (arguable if that's good or bad considering how corrupt these orgs usually are). But I do feel bad for local fans who certainly won't make the trip to the States to see these games, and if stadiums aren't going to let bands in (like in Atlanta last Thursday), the atmosphere will really suffer. I didn't watch closely last night, did the atmosphere in Miami seem lively (e.g., lots of music/singing)?
I think it will be fuller for Argentina-Peru on Saturdaycouldn't hear the audio bc I was in a sportsbook, but Miami was at least half empty.
the tickets prices are also sky high so not a lot of casual and low income fans are attending. Compare that to the Euros…couldn't hear the audio bc I was in a sportsbook, but Miami was at least half empty.
I still couldn’t believe how many Colombia fans were at the USA match. My brother-in-law’s parents are from Colombia. He’s been in the DC area for 15 years and was shocked at how many yellow jerseys were at the stadium.Colombia take a 2-0 lead into the half, both goals assisted by James. It’s not that Paraguay have been that bad, but Colombia are just clicking on all level right now. Houston is Little Bogota right now too, which helps.
I was today years old when I learned that there are more immigrants from Colombia in the US than any other South American country (at least according to my quick Googling). I always assumed it was Brazil.I still couldn’t believe how many Colombia fans were at the USA match. My brother-in-law’s parents are from Colombia. I was at this match too, & the crowd was electric (+ many not knowing where their damn seats are). I'll try to post some photos later.Houston is Little Bogota right now too, which helps.
Draw with the US, scoreless draw with CR - unless Brazils ends up winning this tournament, I don’t think any of them can ever go home again.CONCACAF Thunder! Costa Rica getting a scoreless draw with Brazil. It's like 2014 is back.
I thought Brazil got hosed on a lot of calls, especially in the first half. Like, betting fix might be in level hosed. Still, impressive organization and individual defending from the Ticos.CONCACAF Thunder! Costa Rica getting a scoreless draw with Brazil. It's like 2014 is back.
But how is that even a tackle? He kicked the ball and dude's shin happened to be on the other side of it.Does not look as clear red as the announcers are saying, since the ref got a good look. But that's a really bad tackle. Especially when the coach made those pre-game comments.
That's a tackle. This is not a situation where a player was in possession of the ball and went to kick it and a defender got in the way of the kick. This was a loose ball, with two players contesting it. The Canada player pulled up to avoid contact and the Peru player swung through the ball, over the top.But how is that even a tackle? He kicked the ball and dude's shin happened to be on the other side of it.
This is a pretty uncharitable description of what happened. When you leave your feet, and lead with your cleats up, and bend the other guys leg the wrong way, it's almost always a Red.
Yeah.. it didn’t even feel like 50/50 ball.. the Peruvian looked like he more or less slipped.. and the Canadian didn’t even look like he was going for the ball really.. just sort of looked like he was standing there..But how is that even a tackle? He kicked the ball and dude's shin happened to be on the other side of it.
32 years without winning a Stanley Cup and counting. So it's already a shit day for Canada. Don't sweat an orange foul being a red! :0)Fine, maybe my Canada hate is coming through. But I hate that call.
Yeah, that is pretty much my thought too. It looked like the ref was in a good position. It's pretty clearly an orange foul, and I don't think VAR should be about changing orange fouls either way, unless the ref genuinely did not see it. It felt there like VAR was putting its thumb on the scale and getting the ref to change a call instead of truly providing the ref with additional information he didn't already have. It's not the like ref missed it. He saw it and judged it a yellow.Definitely not as clear cut as the announcers made it
