I always default to believing the victim, but them looking for (allegedly) $100m gives me a little pause. I won’t make a judgement now until more details are out.
Slow hand clap emoji >>HERE<<Browns clearing cap space.
Alleged.I always default to believing the victim
Same here, plus the fact that it was seven years ago. On its own that means very little but the offer to let this go for 100m seems off.I always default to believing the victim, but them looking for (allegedly) $100m gives me a little pause. I won’t make a judgement now until more details are out.
She could also just be getting terrible legal advice on that 100 million figure.Same here, plus the fact that it was seven years ago. On its own that means very little but the offer to let this go for 100m seems off.
Lot less forms for extortion. Can a lawyer walk be through what is extortion vs what's a settlement offer?
I clearly don't understand,
It is a fine line. If the threat of criminal prosecution comes up ancillary to a civil claim you are seeking to resolve, you are ok. A straight threat to abstain from making a criminal complaint to get paid is dicey. This usually arises in lawyer discipline. Prosecutions are rare. But the lawyer disciplinary rules are meant to track the law of extortion kind of.Can a lawyer walk be through what is extortion vs what's a settlement offer?

It could be possible, but it's more likely they have been quiet because they have no cap space. I'm sure like most teams they could create some but currently OTC has them at $2.2mHmmm, just heard a take on sports radio today that the Cowboys have been oddly quiet in free agency. I wonder if the organization was tipped off this was coming down the pike, and they are taking a "wait and see" position until they are clear their QB is set.

Yeah, this. They have less than $3M in cap space. It could be possible, but it's more likely they have been quiet because they have no cap space. I'm sure like most teams they could create some but currently OTC has them at $2.2m

Oof, yeah I forgot how much they added last offseason (including Cooks and Gilmore) even after Zeke was out. Also, Zeke's dead cap number is slightly up from last season in 2024.Yeah, this. They have less than $3M in cap space.
My initial post was changed since I wimped out and didn't want to catch a lot of flak. I can live with this.fewer forms for extortion,

I think the Cowboys were expected to extend Dak to bring down his egregious 2024 cap number ($59.5M) and free up space for upgrades. Jerry Jones made intemperate comments earlier in the offseason about Dak, which I figured had complicated negotiations for an extension that seemed like a no-brainer for both sides. Now, of course, I wonder if these allegations were the real reason for the lack of an extension.Yeah, this. They have less than $3M in cap space.
I immediately had the same thoughts when I read that line.Could also be Prescott getting in front of it. Both things could also be true. Seems like Dak got his PR in order before doing anything.
This part was pretty interesting to me: "The letter stated: 'Despite the tragic events, she is willing to forego pursuing criminal charges, along with disclosing this information to the public, in exchange for compensating her for the mental anguish she has suffered. (The alleged victim's) damages are valued at the sum of $100,000,000.00.'"
This would be unethical for a lawyer to do in many jurisdictions. Texas seems to follow the majority rule, but I have no idea if there are cases there that interpret it.
