#DFG: Canceling the Noise

Is there any level of suspension that you would advise Tom to accept?

Team has no recourse unless Kraft wants to relinquish his role as a power broker and become Al Davis, Part II.

Brady can and should go nuclear.  Starting with the release of the request from PW for his cell phone along with the notes from his interview with the NFL.  Then Brady needs to point out the utter absurdity of being suspended for lack of cooperation for an inquiry where the underlying offense is not only unproven, but is brought into question by the very report that supposedly establishes the offense.

Can we now all agree that Ted Wells was used not to actually investigate what happened but to bring a bill of indictment that the NFL could use to get them out from under this mess?  This was a hatchet job, pure and simple.

Not just a hatchet job, this has to be the new gold standard, no? High profile league, high profile players and team, a nothing speculative offense of a rule that no one can explain why it exists or matters. This is insanity.

There's no way in hell the pats will get the opening night prime time game anymore, is that there? That could get really ugly

Why?  The ratings will be absolutely mammoth.

Will we hear from any of the domestic violence advocates with some perspective on the Commish here?

They will, and it will.  The entire broadcast will be about Deflategate.  Fans should boycott the broadcast and hit the NFL where it hurts - in their pocketbook.

Crazy. I mean, I pretty much expected a couple games for Brady, and a fine for the team was likely just because its pretty much the easiest punishment for the league to hand down. But 4 games and 2 picks, including a first rounder? Fucking nuts

Is it possible the league went heavy on the draft picks because they know they're in for a tough fight with the suspension?

If I could make it happen, I would have the Pats forfeit the four games that Brady's suspended for.  Opening night? NO GAME!  Cowboys and the Colts? NO GAME!

That's the only thing the NFL really cares about, its TV product.

A four game suspension for Brady is bad enough.  The lost picks and the million dollar fine on top of that are incomprehensible.

Actually, the comparison was totally relevant. Guilty or Innocent, neither guy has his name "cleared" by appealing an NFL suspension. Even if he wins.

As Peterson admitted beating his child with a switch before the indefinite suspension, what the fuck was he "clearing"?

I think they should go ahead with the banner ceremony, but use it as a platform to highlight the absence of the SB MVP and the greatest QB in the history of the league. The players can come out in missing-man formation.

I think they are trying to make Tom and the rest of the pats do something stupid with rage.  Honestly I hope they all go fishing or for a run to let the rage out before they do something stupid.

I'm really pissed and it's not me, my money, or my livelyhood and reputation.  Absolutely insane that the rulebook says 25K fine and they drop 4 games on the player and the team penalties...even IF they did it!

The Patriots had better fight this - from the owner to the execs to the coach to the players to the fans - it has to be all in on this.  This is a fucking disgrace.  I cannot believe with all that has come out how anyone can seriously consider suspending Brady or fining the team and taking draft picks.  This is worse than wrestling.

@BobGlauber Troy Vincent cited Patriots' involvement in '07 #spygate as factor in punishment. "This prior violation of competitive rules" was considered

How?  The league has been in control the whole way.  Neither Kraft nor the Patriots can do anything about it.

The only recourse is the suspension.

Kraft cannot take on the league and win, and the league has always known it.
As far as I remember, Kraft is very influential in the league ownership circle and has been in Goodell's camp for a while, especially after the lockout. He'll eat the punishment, sure, but I have no doubt he's gonna let Goodell have it for as long as Goodell's around.

Yeah, we've discussed this topic more than once. Not watching the broadcast costs the NFL exactly zero cents. Gjge though.

There's got to be some applicable law - do we have a property interest in the pick?  Does a league have to avoid arbitrary punishments and actions?
No, this is what billionaires sign up for when they buy teams. Can get it to arbitrator, but do not expect much.
