To the Sons of Bob Dee: This is a link to Showtime’s outstanding history of the American Football League, which first aired four years ago. An absolutely fascinating retrospective, it is the best documentary of the old AFL that I have ever seen. Carve out some time for yourself and enjoy this compelling series. It is a five-hour documentary divided into five hour-segments. Steve Sabol at his very best. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgsAdf1RcdUhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgsAdf1RcdU

Three minutes in, Hank Stram said they didn't know how long the AFL would last, and they didn't. Nobody did. When you saw a New York Titans at Los Angeles Chargers last regular season 50 - 43 pinball game with 5 - 6,000 people in the stands, you kind of laughed. Was this real pro football? Stram was a character and you had to like him. "Keep matriculating your way down the field, boys." For a while, we even had the four major local teams called "Boston", so you didn't have to say "the Boston teams, and New England". I know, the New England product has been so much better. I watched that AFL chronology when it came out and will probably watch it again. Thanks for bringing attention to it, Jack.

Thanks to my Dad, I probably saw at least 40 Pats games in the 1960's (from 1963-69) as he was a season ticket holder. I once saw a 43-43 tie between the Raiders and the Pats at Fenway that was quintessential AFL. I will never forget proudly charging into my junior high school the day after the Jets and the Chiefs won Super Bowls III and IV and asking all of my NFL friends, "So how did the Mickey Mouse League do yesterday?"
By the way, Ang Coniglio, the President of the AFL Identity Committee (who is featured in the film), is an old friend.

I watched this earlier this year.  The Al Davis v. Pete Rozelle feud went on for quite a while.  That Heidi game fiasco I do remember.
