How do you propose they get better at that?

Joe's defense is the same, switch everything. So every fucking team is dragging Al out to the 3 point line, having his man set the screen, and you end up with Al covering Harden or Maxey or Trae or Murray..Over and over again. If Al's guy goes out to set the screen, they need to start switching on the back end, and let Jaylen or Tatum or Smart or White or Brogdon pick up the ballhandler on the switch.

As soon as Harden or whoever has Horford on them, he can't get in their face, because they'll go by him, so they just shoot a wide open 3, lather, rinse, repeat.
In key spots, they need to blitz Harden especially if Embiid is out. I don’t know why they just don’t force the ball out of his hands.

His teammates fucked him there, mostly Jaylen, who turned down the 3, then got off balance and floated the ball back to I think Tatum with barely any time left to do anything.
….You’re working overtime to shit on Jaylen if that’s your read of what happened.

None of his teammates fucked him, no one gave him a grenade. Brogdon made an absolutely fucking bone headed play and fucked the team. Period. End of story. He had time to catch, take dribbles and throw the ball into the fucking backcourt before the shot clock went off. He should have enough sense to know the shot clock and either eat the ball or throw it at the rim. Don’t fucking throw it parallel behind you

Celtics really badly need Embiid back in this series to slow down 20-25 possessions a game. They fucking suck against every guard.

Steph Curry...

Jimmy Butler...

James Harden...

Tatum can't do what they do...

They want the ball and want the moment - in the 4th quarter - and they take it.

Tatum doesn't want it.

That possession where Brogdan throws the ball to Maxey?

Go watch that...

That's Tatum's shot to take. He needs to make sure everyone gets out of his way and makes that basket to seal the victory.

He's afraid --- I don't know what you people are watching if you can't see that.
Because he didn't take one shot? what about the drive where he got hacked at around a minute or the ball slap when he was following the play to get a reb if it didn't go in? Wasn't caring then? Or the rest of the game when he kicked ass, it was a bad play
I am not saying he is perfect or has a Bird or Curry or Jordan killer instinct, - few do, but this is over the top. Did Tatum not lead them to the finals last year? Guess lost it all over the summer.

We have to sit here and watch people who dont know what they are watching incorrectly drag players for less. Brogdon thought there was another shooter relocating to that spot but nobody else thought that way. I don't think anyone screwed him. He just misread the play.
It doesn't even matter, there was not time for anyone else to shoot, he passed it with .4 seconds left. It was basically dumped to Brogdon to heave up an impossible shot because nobody else wanted to make a play. Cowardly possession.

I know it was obviously worse, since it was 2 free points, but that ball was dumped from teammate to teammate because nobody wanted to take a fucking shot.

I think there's supposed to be somebody at the top of the key there... but with time running down I think every went to try and get the board.
I think they relocate to the spot earlier in the clock. I think you are spot on about the clock being a factor - Brogdon should have known he had to put it up.

Again, he shouldn't be fired into the sun or anything like that. It was just a remarkable thing from a player whom I expected to be better in these close/late situations.

Since game 2 of the last series they have given up 130, 121, 119, 120 & 119 points, all more than any game in last years playoff run. It’s tough to win when you give up that many points. They are very easy to score on and are not defending screens well at all. I do think some of it is effort but think it goes a bit deeper than that at this point. Ime had them buy in on the defensive end and it doesn’t appear CJM has. Would rather just win in a shootout.
And this was, what, the #1 defense last year?

Mazzula doesn't know how to coach D.

He took it to the rim on two of the last four possessions I believe. If anything it should be on his teammates to maybe set some screens to get him open like they do for all of the other players on that list.

They did. Their great ball movement hurts them at times especially in crunch time.

I have tried to stay positive about CJM. I tend to think coaches don’t matter a ton and thought he just lowered the ceiling a bit.

No more…he’s a problem

Just because you keep saying “narrative” doesn’t mean the team didn’t spit the bit tonight.
They lost the game. They could have played better. Criticizing their play is different than desperately trying to fit the loss as evidence into some bigger story. Especially when the premise is asinine on its face. I have no patience for it especially two nights in a row.

Please go watch that possession for God's sake. It was dumped to Brogdon with no time to do anything. Everyone passed the buck, including your two biggest stars.

And just because you're too stubborn to see what's right in front of you - doesn't make it false.

Go watch the possession.

It's Tatum's possession.

He didn't want it.
Saw the same thing. And I agree. The stories of him working out with Kobe..you wouldn’t know it to watch him in the Playoffs. That’s Tatum’s shot to take and he bailed on it.

I think in fairness to everyone.. it was probably the best defense that Philly played all night.. they were hustling their ass off with hands up everywhere.

I can't go all-in again with this team like last year. If they want to cheesedick away the title with the gift of the Bucks gone, so be it.

It was an absolute gutless decision by Tatum to pass up that shot off the dribble knowing that the shot clock was about to expire. Your brain is wired to shoot in that moment and he didn’t want the shot leaving Brogdon to Jakobi Meyers the play. Just an absolutely pathetic sequence for this team. Like, junior high level stupid.

He rolled to the rim looking to get the ball back.

If he takes the shot and misses.. it's ISO Tatum.

Jason has his defenders, and no matter what you see in the second half and final minutes of these games (over and over by the way)...you're wrong.

I mean he’s not wrong. Both times they doubled Harden he passed out for a wide open made 3. The bigger problem was the drop, giving up the switch every time + the insistence to play a big at all times when Philly was playing Tucker at 5 half the time and all he does on offense is set illegal screens and nut punch.

And yeah, Udoka situation sucked but I'm proud of the organization for ousting him. Sucks on the court but whatever, just a game.

We’ll see. I’ve watched a lot of teams over my lifetime, as most of us here have. And you tend to get a feel for their personality. This team has a habit of futzing around. I keep saying it may not be a fatal flaw. But they’ve done it a lot for several years now.

Dude…he caught the ball, took two dribbles parallel to the basket at the free throw line and threw the ball away? Honestly, if what you were saying were true, it would be 100000x better because it would have been a shot clock violation. It wasn’t….because he had time to catch, dribble and throw it away.

Here’s the link to the play. You’re just wrong

This is a dumb take. According to NBA.com, he is the only player in NBA history to shoot at least 50 percent on game-tying or go-ahead shots with less than 24 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter among players with at least 25 such attempts. He is 13-of-26 on such shots — 15-of-29 including the playoffs. He‘a not just clutch, he’s the the most clutch player of all time statistically.

True, though Jaylen did have an open catch and shoot 3 and hitched. Other than that, D was good, but someone needs to drive and take a shot. If not Brown, then Tatum with 5 seconds left on the shot clock. Even a straight away 3 with a defender there is better than passing it away in that situation.

Yeah.. thank god you're here to show us that Tatum doesn't care about winning because he passed on one of the last possessions of a game in the first game of a seven game playoff series.
