Nurse has annoying body language but he has had a lot of successGood Christ no
Yep. That’s on the coach when he refuses to call timeouts to draw up plays in crunch time. They’ve gotten out executed in three sub-2 minute situations across the two losses.
This is the thing - if I’m Joe the instant I see this I call a TO. I get the idea of not calling a timeout to force mismatches but once there is a hint of confusion or delay you have to react.Terrible clock management on the last play. With 15 secs left why walk the ball up the court and wait until just a couple of seconds left to go to the basket.
did they give it up? That sequence had a lot of bad bounces. Brogdon having to be subbed out with 5 fouls wasn’t great. Maybe should have just kept him in.When the C's were up five late in the fourth quarter, there was one stop from effectively locking up the series. Instead, they gave up an easy two and then a three-point play to Tucker, and it was back-and-forth from there.
Sigh.
Good analysisThere are 3 people you can blame end of game.
Brown…doubling Embiid and letting Harden take a shot (which everyone agrees was contested)
Tatum…for apparently not knowing how clocks work and throwing Smart a grenade
Mazzulla…for not recognizing that the players on the floor clearly didn’t have an idea of what they wanted to do and pocketing two timeouts.
To me, one of these three is completely unforgivable. Two of them are in the midst of competition where you have to make a quick decision. One of them is literally just passing the buck and doing nothing
I blame 80% Jaylen Brown, 10% Tatum, 5% Smart, 5% Mazzulla. So Philly gets their best shooter wide open while the Celts can’t even get a shot off.
I blame about 60-70% Joe and 30-40% players.
Grant wasn’t in the game. If you want to try to big dog me, at least know who’s in the gameCool. How’d that play work out for us? Grant played Embiid perfectly. He backed off so if he goes up, it’s likely a tie game. Leaving Harden created one of the few scenarios that could have burned us. An Embiid and one is always possible but make him force the issue. They made it easy on the Sixers to give a hit shooter a good look.
Should maybe make this plan A moving forward. It’s kind of sad that up two under 20 seconds on defense that I am kind of secretly hoping that the team commits a non shooting foul.
He actually moved with 7 seconds left or so, he just dribbled himself into trouble and refused to take the contested shot.Terrible clock management on the last play. With 15 secs left why walk the ball up the court and wait until just a couple of seconds left to go to the basket.
He might have, and maybe Jaylen just left him anyway.I also don’t understand how Mazzulla doesn’t drill it into their heads during the PHI timeout to not leave shooters. That was literally the only thing they needed to not do. I’m at a loss.
Phillies counter by putting all the owners wives in the front row and he’s too turned on to concentrate. We’re 8-0 in the playoffs if Ime is coaching
That would have been an impossible shot. Three guys closed on him.He actually moved with 7 seconds left or so, he just dribbled himself into trouble and refused to take the contested shot.
Almost as if you give yourself more time if you use those timeout things.View: https://twitter.com/NBCSCeltics/status/1655340966130196483
Mazzula on what the final play was supposed to be/why they didn't take a timeout. Wanted Maxey in the PnR with Tatum, just didn't time it right
I was screaming “TIMEOUT!!” when Marcus was fucking around doing nothing, draining clock
you gotta read the room. They weren't ready to make a play there.
Doris is truly horrible. It’s like Tommy but for the Sixers doing a national broadcast.
Just pinging points I agree with, since my brain is too fried to compose an original thought. That was a tough last series by Tatum but the blame goes 100% on CJM for not calling a timeout and drawing up a play. I mean, what is he there for?
Less impossible than shooting with no time on the clock. That would have been an impossible shot. Three guys closed on him.
I hate going for 3’s when you need oneI hate going for threes when you need two.
They would be 8-0 with M.L Carr coaching. We’re 8-0 in the playoffs if Ime is coaching

Mazzula on what the final play was supposed to be/why they didn't take a timeout. Wanted Maxey in the PnR with Tatum, just didn't time it right
Are you joking? They were fucking terrible at closing last year, choked multiple games in round 2 and again in round 3 forcing each to 7 games and came thiiiiiiis close to epically choking G7 against Miami, then they panicked through the last three games of the Finals. We’re 8-0 in the playoffs if Ime is coaching
Fucking exactly. You know when it was obvious they weren’t playing with the pace needed? When Smart drained fucking 7 seconds of the clock doing nothingAlmost as if you give yourself more time if you use those timeout things.
C's were up five, and Harden blew past Brogdon and encountered no resistance on the way to an easy layup, The C's next possession ended with an awful late-clock 3-point attempt by Smart, who was well-defended by Tucker.did they give it up? That sequence had a lot of bad bounces. Brogdon having to be subbed out with 5 fouls wasn’t great. Maybe should have just kept him in.
Well someone has to do that if you want the last shot. If they called timeout, someone would have done the same thing before running the play.Fucking exactly. You know when it was obvious they weren’t playing with the pace needed? When Smart drained fucking 7 seconds of the clock doing nothing
“That was a great playoff basketball game.” Shades of Monty. I know comparing everything to BB is tired at this point but I’m kind of sick of the “aw shucks we did our best” approach that both Monty and Mazz have - BB has never once thrown out this “hey look we tried our best but shit happens sometimes” answer. If you lost, by definition, you didn’t do well enough.View: https://twitter.com/NBCSCeltics/status/1655340966130196483

I don't think it accomplishes anything, it's just joe's explantion of why no timeout, they wanted a matchup.I don’t think this video accomplishes what you think it does
bucks like a week ago. It's obviously happened before, but I can't remember a team not even getting a shot off, down 1 in that situation.
You want the last shot 100% when it’s tied, not when you’re losingWell someone has to do that if you want the last shot. If they called timeout, someone would have done the same thing before running the play.
Which game? I want to go back and look at it, because I don't remember it.bucks like a week ago.
You want it either way, especially given the Sixers were scoring at will in late possessions. It’s just better odds to play for the last shot. You want the last shot when it’s tied, not when you’re losing
Sorry, Tatum. Now that we cleared that up, your point still is wrong.Grant wasn’t in the game. If you want to try to big dog me, at least know who’s in the game
I think it was Game 5. Grayson Allen euro stepped with 0 seconds left instead of taking the floaterWhich game? I want to go back and look at it, because I don't remember it.
Ok pal. Situations reversed where Tatum helps off of Harden, I wonder what your read is on that play. I’m guessing it’s completely differentSorry, Tatum. Now that we cleared that up, your point still is wrong.
Thanks. Maybe watching Grayson fail will make me feel slightly better.I think it was Game 5. Grayson Allen euro stepped with 0 seconds left instead of taking the floater
What about the 4th quarter? Basically touched it twice, one led to a kick out for an assist on a 3, and another was a 3 that he made.I don’t understabd why Jaylen never touched the ball in OT
It was a terrible play if it was the ghost of Bill Russell. You can’t leave a guy on the three point line in that situation.Ok pal. Situations reversed where Tatum helps off of Harden, I wonder what your read is on that play. I’m guessing it’s completely different
If Joe calls that timeout, what exactly are the substitutions that Doc makes? I would bet a lot of money he leaves that exact 5 in…since, you know, he didn’t make a single substitution before thatI don't think it accomplishes anything, it's just joe's explantion of why no timeout, they wanted a matchup.
Multiple people are making the same exact point. You can remain stubborn, if you want.Ok pal. Situations reversed where Tatum helps off of Harden, I wonder what your read is on that play. I’m guessing it’s completely different
I think calling a timeout would probably help fix that, no?The Celtics have lost both games in large part because they could not even manage a shot in a last possession need a bucket situation. They also did this multiple times in the regular season. It’s a systematic failing of this particular team. I don’t know how they fix it short of just leading by more points when the game gets late.
