deep inside Guido territory
key is going to be whether the pick up the D when Embiid is back, a Paul Reed pick and roll or pick and pop is not the same as an Embiid one.

Though, again, Timelord minutes without Embiid continue to be strong defensively.
Just at least get in the faces of the guards and don’t let them get clean looks off of actions. I’d venture to guess 60% of phillys shots are uncontested

It's not like that's a rule today. It's a ref cognitive bias. How do you implement what you're saying?
Is it a cognitive bias, or a general approach by pretty much all refs to let some fouls go if the shot goes in?

I don't know that anything can be implemented other than the league telling the refs to cut the shit and call it straight.

(BTW, I was being a little tongue-in-cheek about "changing the rule" -- I know there isn't one, but, like flopping, this is something that impacts the game that I find annoying.)
If you want to go Full Metal Nerd here, the literature says you’d have to completely intervene on informal on the job training by other refs. As in, top down changes don’t do much, especially in rule enforcement jobs such as reffing—they learn “the real rules” and “How to call a game” from the more senior refs they learn from. That’s why you get those early season / beginning of play-off tweaks that hold for a hot minute or two and then go away; you’re up against a deeper tradition.

They could out together a five year plan yo replace all the refs and get real change. Don’t see it as likely though.

You should post more about how Tatum sucks
Listen man…when that stat line still has people saying “no, you don’t understand!! He’s still great!!!” You’re damn fucking right I am going to call out when he’s sucking

He’s a human being and a player…he can actually suck in a game. It is possible. And if he does play well, I will say that. I’m really fucking tired of the brigade of people who want to tell everyone how great Tatum is no matter what

Imagine being the only player in the NBA with a teammate that also made 1st or 2nd team All NBA and shitting all over yourself in the second round? Embarrassment.

Your position is literally Tatum steps on the court and he’s grear
You seem to be struggling with this so let me try a different angle. There are options beyond great and terrible for player performance/contribution. Tatum is a great player. He’s one of the best in the game. That greatness is in significant part a result of his being an elite scorer. But he also does a lot of other things really well, and those matter too.

When he struggles to score he is not great. But he’s generally still good and an overall positive because those other things still matter. In fact, they matter a lot.

Just in case it wasn’t clear since you keep ignoring the words I wrote and rephrase them as statements I am not making: Tatum is not great when his shots aren’t falling. That doesn’t mean he is awful.

Maybe this team should scrimmage first team against second team before the game actually begins. Seems like it takes them a while to dial up the intensity

Agree with all of this. That's what stands in the way of meaningful change. They genuinely think they're doing the right thing -- they're keeping players (particularly stars) from picking up fouls. Ignoring the fact that it has an undeniable impact on the outcome of games (because players don't get into as much foul trouble).

Ok, I will try a different angle with you.

I agree with you…but is Tatum the only person afforded this? Because it sure as fuck seems that way. Any other player that can’t throw the ball in the ocean and it unanimous to take him out.

If you post with more nuance than that, I’m sorry for lashing out at you. But that seems to be the vast majority around here.

IE, Marcus Smart. He’s a hell of a fucking defender. Can set people up too, when he misses, are these posts happening?
