And Moreno is a defender in name only.
I don't mind playing Can in a back three where he's expected to distribute and break up play between the attacking midfielder and a single striker. He's got the physical presence and skills to do it. But he's also very young and brain farts like that are to be expected.

You want a midfielder in a back 3 over a defender? It's not ideal but I'd take somebody that instinctively knows defensive spacing, has a handle on situational ball handling, and has probably been practicing clearances his whole life. May give something up on physicality and aerial ability but the drop off where those traits are key isn't the bigger evil.
I'm not advocating fullbacks/wingbacks in the back 3, but honestly Touré is probably a better option than Can overall there. Push Can up into midfield and have Coutinho wide left drifting in with Moreno off.

Ideally I'd have someone with more maturity and defensive instincts in the back three to go with distribution skills, but that person isn't in the Liverpool squad. To me, you can't play a back three of Toure/Skrtel/Sakho because there's not enough ball skill. You need two passers like Can and Sakho or you can't threaten the opponent enough to keep them from pressing hard enough to force errors
There's a really good young defender at Villa named Tiago Ilori who'd be a good fit; maybe LFC could get him...

Yes, they were. Bayern are unbelievable at the moment. The quality that they play with is frightening.
