Been brewing since the tattoo incident. Contract is up. Nobody will miss him. Thanks for the nightmares, Chappy.

Chapman: Yankee fans probably universally thrilled to see the last of him, although I'm guessing he did that because he knew he was borderline to make the roster anyway. It's hard to put a reliever on a postseason roster when there's a sizable chance they will come in and not be able to throw a strike, you need to make sure you have someone ready behind them and NY has plenty of other options even with their injuries. Bye bye bye.

Rotation: One thing that no one will mention about this is that while Cole is clearly not as good as Cortes and Severino at this moment, this essentially lines up the NY rotation with the CLE one. They will have to go Quantrill (3rd best guy), Bieber (#1) and McKenzie (#2), and NY has essentially matched that. It could get tricky in games 4 and 5 as Cole will be the only one of those three on full rest for either of those, but I guess they will deal with that if they have to.

Cleveland was 29th in homeruns this season. Cole, well, he's had his issues giving up the long ball.

Stoppable force against a moveable object.

Should be fun.

Cole pitched twice against CLE this year and was very good:

4/24 (home): 6.2 4 0 0 1 9

7/2 (road): 6 3 2 2 3 6

Josh Naylor and Franmil Reyes went back to back on him in that second game for the only two runs he allowed, Reyes is long gone from CLE.

Yankees fans on Reddit seem ecstatic the Chapman era is over. He seemed OK the first few years.
He was a very good regular season closer for a long time, but memorably was on the mound for multiple season-ending HRs (Brousseau and Correa), and was extremely unreliable this season in any role. His incompetence last week (walking three of five batters) maybe ended up getting Marinaccio hurt after he had to bail him out.

Another reason to root for the Padres tonight, as a 6:30 start could be funky with shadows etc.

if Cle can keep it low scoreing they win but if the yankees put up 4 or more runs a game the yanks win this in 4 for Cle to win they will have to win 3 2-1 3-2 type of games

The AL gets an off day between Games 1 & 2?
The schedule is all screwed up thanks to the lockout. No days off between games 4/5 for anyone, and there's a staggering after game 1 so there is at least two games everyday for awhile. But also can't start any game 1 on Wednesday or WC teams would be less handicapped. So we get... this.

Next year I assume staggered by one day will start immediately, as usual, when there's actual room to pull it off.

Best part about playing the Yankees is I don't have to worry about afternoon time slots when I'm at work.

So Carpenter is definitely on the roster, which means you want him in the lineup if at all possible, and that would almost certainly be DH. Stanton hasn't played the OF since coming back from the IL last time, but says he is up for trying it (they are going to test this tomorrow), but the issue then becomes who plays LF? I don't think Bader or Judge has ever played LF and LF is big at Yankee Stadium. Maybe this?

Judge CF
Rizzo 1B
Torres 2B
Carpenter DH
Stanton RF
Cabrera 3B
Trevino C
IKF or Peraza SS
Bader LF

NY has a lot of hard personnel decisions to make and they have shown in recent years that they are not especially good at that (hello Deivi as an opener in a postseason game).

One of my friends just sent me a fake announcement that Cleveland was putting Sandlin on the IL and bringing Bryan Shaw back from his DFA. If he'd left me hanging any longer, I would have started breaking shit.

This seems like a series where (unfortunately) the Yankees will steamroll right through Cleveland. Hoping I’m wrong, but I cannot see the Yanks losing this series. At least it’s not the Twins!

Alongside Joe Morgan and Tim McCarver, I presume?
Do you think he talks like he's an intellectual now? Costas? Compared to the 80's and 90's. At least Scully could make you laugh. I don't know, I just think he's changed since then. But we all get older. He does talk about the Mickey Mantle Yankees just a little too much. Yes I know he was his childhood idle.

I bought a Guards shirt. First non-Sox shirt I've ever owned
I Bought a Cubs shirt in 2015. Went to the WC game in Pittsburgh, Cubs won of course. A year early but I was proud to wear it when they finally one. As a lifelong Red Sox fan I think we could cheer for them as most Red Sox fans probably did. Even though the annoying and a little bit overrated Joe Madden was their manager. And I like Francona a lot. Go Guardians!!

I would no sooner wear a Cubs shirt than a Yankees shirt

So midges are only usually around for a week or so around this time of year in CLE, and this again is the week. I am not positive if they are still supposed to be around for game 3 on Saturday, hopefully NY is better prepared this time at least, whatever that means.

At least we know they won't be out-managed. Tito still has the ability to absolutely pull a rabbit out of his hat on occasion.

What's the 2022 equivalent for "Go Tribe"? Go Statues just doesn't convey the right feel.

Go Guards? It's short and alliterative.

In a sport known (more than other sports) for the bizarre and whimsical, that remains one of the strangest, funniest things I've ever seen in sports. Even moreso than people throwing dildos on the field at the Patriots. Obviously you weren't finding it as funny, but for many non-Yankees fans in here, it was like a biblical plague had been sent to smite the Yankees - which was both fitting, and decades overdue. To others, it helped prove that the Yankees were, collectively, Beelzebub.

That's what they get for putting a ballpark right on the ocean.
