Open for business on Cespedes if the right deal comes along and full speed ahead on Lester and Miller.  Filled a big hole here and did it right for dollars and years that make sense.

If we also sign sandoval I'm going to call them HanPan or Handa, still undecided. Will put up poll soon.

He's 30 and has injury issues and has had some mediocre seasons recently as a result of those injuries. Ok signing but much left to do.

“@MikeBerardino: Also on Hanley, throughout #Marlins tenure, was common for him to ask clubbies to put #RedSox game on TV closest to his locker. #exile”

Speier:

No indications to this point that Red Sox' reported agreement with Hanley Ramirez diminish interest in signing Sandoval.

Add me to the chorus of people who are shocked at the low sticker price and thrilled with the signing. Just say no on Sandoval, now.

Good deal or not, this deal bums me out in a few respects:

- some evidence that he's a bad clubhouse guy

- he's lousy defensively

- assuming they are still in on panda and various pitchers, aren't the sox revisiting the Carl Crawford days to an extent here

- could mean x or betts is gone for Hamels

Same feelings here. I doubt him defensively and worry about his attitude.

It may be the Hanley signing that will push Pablo to Boston.
Seems a lot ore likely Panda was a feint to give them leverage with Hanley. Hanley has always made a ton more sense than Panda

A lot of years for a guy with some physical and position questions but worth the risk

Hanley at that price is awesome.  If his defense at 3B could be decent, that's a home run of a deal.  I really hope Panda is going back to SF after this.  I don't want him in a 3XL Sox uni.

I love the Hanley signing but I just don't get it if they still go after Sandoval.  Seems like spending a lot to make a small improvement over just keeping Hanley at third and Cespedes/whoever in LF.

This is just increasingly bizarre and I can't wait to hear what's going on with Sandoval. Are we still in? Were we ever in? This just materialized out of nowhere over six hours. In fact, I heard very little about ANY team even meeting with Ramirez at all over the offseason. There was little, if any, speculation about him going anywhere.

I just need more details, like right now.
You need to follow more 14-year-old's Twitter accounts.  Duh.

Can we get Lester and Hanley in a chat, late night around thanksgiving, to see if they would eat TURKEY together, given their well documented pizza issues?

When?

Given the injury issues and positional concerns, he had a good 2014, a really good 2013 when he wasn't hurt, he was good once he was traded to LA in 2011, and then was pretty good from 2006-2010.

He was pretty crappy (for him) in 2011, and for the Miami half of 2012...so he's had some mediocre 1.5 season, when he was pretty healthy? He's been a very good ballplayer recently, and for most of his career.

From a talent standpoint, if you can get Hanley and Panda, and get elite pitching for X, you do it.
But we have a budget and X is young and cheap.
But going back to the original point, I dont have a problem with giving him up if that means we are acquiring a #1/#2 pitcher.
Im sure Im in the minority with this thinking.

Except we don't have a shortstop, which leaves an unsightly hole in the infield.  X is not going anywhere AND Hanley is no longer a shortstop.  Can we stop?

They are not trading Bogaerts. As you allude to, he's part of why they are able to spend some of this money. There's a lot of frantic "trading X and Betts" energy on SOSH right now. It's ludicrous.
