RunKeeper: Cool little tracking app for logging runs and bike rides. I have the free version and it's been cool so far.
I think this is exactly what I've been looking for. Bit pricey, but cool.

The GolfShotGPS that Yaz4Ever recommends looks great -- thanks!

I haven't looked into it, but I think the main difference is that the pay version has audio cues for when you're out and about. The free version has been fine for me so far. I prefer it for biking, but that's because I generally don't like to run with anything on my arm or in my pocket.

Some apps I've tried:

Sports and Navigation
Runkeeper: Great app for tracking where you go and how long it takes you. Dunno about the calorie counter, but the basic features seem excellent. Trifle pricey.
GPS Drive: I'm loving this application. $2.99 a month or $29 a year for voice GPS, and it seems to do a pretty good job to me. Easy to use.
AroundMe: Love this app -- you're somewhere driving around and you need a restaurant, or gas, or whatever. Boom!
ArcGIS: There's a lot in this app. Little slow, but the topo maps alone are worth it.
Yelp: Sort of like AroundMe, also good.
Spyglass: kind of a neat navigation/photo logging tool, but I'm not yet sure how to use it or where

News
I have WTNH.com, Discovery, NYTimes, and NPR News. All pretty handy. The WTNH app is pretty handy actually. I like the Discovery app for easy quick science and archaeology news.

Museums
I'm a museum guy, and have apps for the Louvre, AMNH, Smithsonian, and Cluny. The Louvre app is really great, as is the AMNH app, especially if you're actually there. The AMNH also puts out a Dinosaur app, which is kind of neat. The Smithsonian has a MEandertal app, which converts a picture of you into a Neandertal or Homo Heidelbergensis rendering. Kind of fun -- great for Facebook profiles. The Cluny app is French, and pretty clunky, but has some neat medieval material. I think they're all free or low cost.

I'm still trying to find a decent, simple, cheap, list making type app. I have Bento, which is sort of FileMaker for the iphone, and ListMonger. Bento is more than I want to handle simple lists ("places to eat in NYC" with a sub-list of places I can check off), and ListMonger is okay but not great.

I'm carrying both devices for now, and found another app I love. It's called "Awesome Note" and it syncs with both Evernote and your Google Docs. Fully customizable, pics allowed, etc.

Bumping just to mention a game called "game dev story". It's a super addicting game in which you create a game studio and release games. Plenty of depth to it and it's extremely easy and fun to play. It's $3.99 and has a lite version to test it out.

Any recommendations on a solid radio app? I have CBS Radio but it crashes nearly every use. I'm looking for something where I can hear 985 The Sports Hub, regional music stations, etc.

I've used ooTunes for a long time. Prior to iOS 4 it actually had the ability to play in the background in Safari which justified it's high price tag. Not sure if it's come down or not.

I use "Wunder Radio", and I think it blows everything else away by a country mile. You'll have to shell out $6.99 though (one-time only), but then you can have any station in the country...even local radio stations from anywhere. It even has global stations if you have the need.

I was able to cancel my XM Radio subscription due to Wunder having almost all of the same stations. You only lose the premium channels when you do so, but I never listened to them anyway.

Dead God this app is amazing. It is by Weather Underground so I figured it was just a weather radio. WTF. Thanks for the tip.

CTHP, does it have MLB Network? CNBC? The Fox sports and ESPN straight feed?

On XM I listen to those stations, nothing else really.

I could live with just the MLB Network and ESPN feed thought. The local ESPN radio station is brutal in afternoon drive, nothing but Boise State 52 weeks a year...

Oh, also, will it run in the background? ESPN Radio app needs to get with it.
Road trips would be more brutal, but thats where audio books and tunes can come in handy.

It has a million Fox Sports and ESPN radio stations. I don't see CNBC and no MLB Network.

It runs in the background.

Apologies. As Scout said, it will run in the background, but it does not have the XM ESPN feed (It does have the FOX feed). MLB is considered a premium channel, so that's out. It has a ton of affiliate ESPN feeds, including Bristol CT, and they all mostly run the same exact content as the XM channel, so it's not really that different. I also enjoy being able to get a different show on an ESPN affiliate that the XM channel does not air. In that respect it's more customizable.

There is also another great app named TuneIn Radio ($1.99 one-time), and while it shows direct feeds for ESPN and FOX Sports, they're not really such. They can be feeds from affiliates still at different times of the day. Also, some stations are fed through a last.fm piggyback, and if you don't have last.fm installed as well, you can't even save those stations as favorites (or bookmarks, as this program calls them).

I still recommend Wunder Radio as the best overall.

One thing I would miss from XM Radio is the streaming feed of Fox News on the radio. Is there an app that I haven't found yet which would give me the TV feed? I can find Fox News Radio, which is not the same, but not the streaming broadcast audio anywhere.

Thanks for all the feedback, went with TuneIn Radio and love it.

As a side note, lots of games are really cheap for the next couple days. Picked up Monopoly, Madden 11, and Need for Speed Undercover for $.99 each.

My brother recommended yahoo sketch-a-search to me yesterday. It's pretty cool for finding restaurants, especially in a big city.

MotionX is pretty solid and it's very cheap. You can pay for add'l services, but you don't need to.

CoPilot Live is also pretty good and only costs $19.99, I think.

I bought a year's subscription to CoPilot Live a few months ago. It's OK, but there are occasional problems with its internal maps. It's tried to turn me the wrong way onto one-way streets several times. A few days ago I was trying to find a well-recommended Chinese restaurant, and I drove back and forth over one stretch three times looking for the right turn it wanted me to take before I realized it wanted me to somehow leap the car straight up 20 feet onto the overpass I was driving under.

The reason I chose CoPilot originally is that it actually downloads maps, so they don't rely on a data connection, i.e. you're not dependent on AT&T for your driving. Still, when my year subscription expires, I'm going to look at other options.

Been very happy with Navigon. You can get the Eastern U.S. region for $29.99, which is all I ever need. You could instead choose Central or Western region, or upgrade to more regions with an in-app purchase. Voice navigation is clear. The app itself is pretty ugly but if you're just looking for turn-by-turn voice directions, it's great for the price. For $29.99 you own it and there's nothing else to buy unless you want to add on.

Surprisingly, the FREE Mapquest app has decent voice-guided turn-by-turn directions. Of course you don't get all the nice features like a landscape mode display, or a time-to-destination gauge, but hell, it's free. I've had good luck with it while in SF, DC, Long Island, and NJ so far.

I'll second that. I have one GPS and two cars. Instead of constantly switching the GPS from my car to the Ricette's when she needs it, I've just permanently installed it in hers, and I use this Mapquest app if/when I need it. It arguably works better than the GPS I have as I haven't updated the map in over a year.

Rage HD is a ton of fun, and visually stunning. It'll sure drain that LiPo battery quickly though. Play when plugged in or near a charger, that's for sure.

I also have fallen in love with Bills. It doesn't sync with your accounts like Mint or others, but it simply keeps you organized with push notifications and payment history. For a couple of bucks it's worth every penny and helps a lot.

cross posted this in the gaming forum, but SimCity Deluxe HD (for the iPad) is on sale today for only 99cents.
EA pretty much has all of their things (sports games, board games, etc.) on sale for $0.99 leading up to XMas.

You can stock up your "airport time waster" folder for like $6.

My companies' app launched a while ago, figured I'd pimp it here. It's free, anyway. Do a search for "Everyscape Eats!" in the app store. It's an interactive dining guide, as you can navigate through the restaurant, check it out before you go there, etc. We've got editions for Boston, San Francisco, Seattle and part of Manhattan. Soon to launch; Chicago, more NY, DC, and I'm working on New Orleans, Miami, and San Diego for spring now.

No affiliation here, I have heard it's a decent app though. I played with the "Lite" version for a while and it seemed good.

Just got a Touch and am easing myself into the app world...

Two I didn't see mentioned here, that seem great for 99 cents a pop are

APPZILLA, a 90-in-1 app that combines a ton of crap that seems interesting for a minute of larking and some actually useful stuff as well that sells individually for 99 cents. Voodoo doll, fart noise on a time delay, strobe light, soothing sounds for sleeping, vibrate massager, hold up a lighter at a concert, drum pad, magic 8 ball, censor beep, gameshow dings and buzzers... nifty things that might be useful like a plumb bob and level, 4 burner cooking timer, sending a fake call or text to yourself as a way out, parking meter timer/alarm... and then there's the really useful stuff too.

TuneIn Radio, same deal as the aforementioned every radio station streaming everywhere, but for 99 cents.

This is my go-to app for street running.

If you are in a place with a good GPS signal, I end up off by ~2-5% on overall distance. Weaker signal and I might end up off about 10-15%, but that's because I'll get a very disjointed route that will cut sharp turns (when I ran around south Urbana, IL, I sometimes had this problem-- although you can fix it by logging into your Runkeeper account from a computer and manually editing the parts that got screwed up).

It's not quite as good as the high-end Forerunner, but if you are like me and don't decide if you are going to run 3 miles or 10 miles until you are already on your way out, this is a great way to use keep tabs on the run. Can't beat the price, either. Pro has audio pace alerts (and I'm sure a bunch of other stuff that's not terribly important to me) which I'm excited to have over the Free version.

Just want to say that I've tried a bunch of running apps, and settled on Runmeter. It's a few more bucks ($4.99, I think?) but the features are fantastic. Beyond the GPS tracking and progress narration, you can race ghost runners - or yourself from past runs - and the app will tell you when you're passing/being passed. If you run a regular route, it figures out whether you had a good/moderate/bad day (by your previous standards) and puts it all on a calendar so you can see your trends. And the coolest thing - which will be fun when I'm (knock wood) running Boston this spring, is that it can keep your position updated on a google map that you can give to friends and family, if they want to follow you. Very recommended.

Kinda surprised you don't have the tv.com and PBS apps in your tv group. Free and lots of full episodes, you know you wanna catch all those Dynasty episodes you missed when you were 4.

I've never used Calengoo but I see it everywhere. I set up up Google sync instead. Google sync also syncs my Google Google contacts with my iPhone, as well as the calendar. Is there an advantage to Calengoo? Can you sync multiple calendars to your phone with Calengoo? That would be a big advantage for me.

I use a dummy exchange account with my gmail info to sync my contacts and calendars OTA.

As for multiple calendars, the answer is yes, so long as they are all google calendars tied to one google account. It will even sync certain calendars you subscribe to, like contacts BDays/Anniversaries and US Holidays. The only downside is that it syncs only one account with multiple calendars, not multiple accounts with one calendar. The only separate calendar it syncs along with your google account is your iPhone calendar.

MLB AT Bat 2011 is out now. Yippie.
Could anyone who has downloaded the app please confirm that you can/cannot stream live game video currently?

I have tried to watch the NYY/PHI game and get a black screen. I can listen to the radio broadcasts fine. I do not have it linked to my MLB.tv because I have no officially renewed yet, but today's games should be "freebies" that I can get on the iPhone. I can stream video on my desktop just fine.
