It's been awhile but I used to go to Jville on business and there was nothing there. Although it was convenient when the best restaurant, the city's cultural hub and only tourist attraction could be experienced by going to Hooters.
At least when the winds aren't coming from the direction of the saw mills.Savannah... way nicer than Orlando, how did you make that call?
I live IN Jax. I have no issues with the previous comments. Shad needs to pay more. He’s front and center on most of the development beyond his stadium and isn’t putting enough of his billions in. Move to Duval and you can pay for it.I live in Jax (just outside in St Augustine, technically) and it's certainly not a bustling metropolis but it's not nearly as bad you are all making it sound. Even without getting into what it is now, the new stadium is part of a much, much larger development going in over the stadium. There a lots of hotels and mixed commercial/residential going in over there. There's also quite a bit of development happening in the other bank of the St Johns as well. It's also growing rapidly. It may not be ready right now, but it very well may be by the time a SB would be back.
I live like 2 miles from Duval and actually wish I had moved to Duval over St Johns when I moved here. No arguments from me on Shad or the SB experience in 04. One of the most remarkable things about Jax is the complete failure to make use of what could be a beautiful downtown on the river. It could easily be a sunny Pittsburgh or Portland, and that would be an awesome setting for a SB.I live IN Jax. I have no issues with the previous comments. Shad needs to pay more. edit: I like living here. The Super Bowl experience for fans and more importantly to media was the worst in the history of the game. We need to own it!
The failures of of downtown rest at the altar of a certain church and an old Cowtown thinking power guard. Shad can change it, but he’s going to have to spend more than he wants. The Lot J project failure should provide Shad with a learning opportunity. He needs to take off his Trevor colored glasses and either own the ‘great’ economic opportunity he’s been investing in for a decade, or enjoy London.I live like 2 miles from Duval and actually wish I had moved to Duval over St Johns when I moved here. Hawkers opened near me in Maryland and I love that I have somewhere nearby that scratches my hawker-food itch, but I was pretty surprised that a Malaysian/ Singaporean-style restaurant chain started in FloridaFloridian here... Jacksonville has improved (somewhat) from 2004. There's some good breweries (Intuition) and decent local chains (Hawkers) but there isn't anything to do. The area is bad with very little redeeming qualities. Mayo Clinic is the only reason I'd ever intentionally go back there.
