And then a two run homer in his second one.  If he keeps the strikeouts down and continues to hit, I don't think he should ever see a minor league field again.

Matt Holliday's 45-game on base streak to start the season ends after Joe West tosses him for arguing balls and strikes in the 7th.

The high school team with Wright / Zimmerman / Upton brothers was probably close, though they've tailed off a bit the last couple years

Joe West really is the worst thing to ever happen to professional sports outside of Roger Goodell.

They weren't all on the same high school team, in fact they all went to different high schools. There was some brief AAU overlap though, but not all on the same team. Mark Reynolds was also in that group.

Sabathia just got ejected over a ball called a pitch before he got the batter to hit a GIDP.  He was pissed before and went apeshit after he got ejected.  He was really close to bumping the ump.  Call was borderline, I could see his argument, but dude, you just got out of the inning, let it go.

It was mostly that the ump was giving low strikes to Wilson. CC was done or very close to done anyway, and the ump tossed him pretty quickly.

I just wanted to say that I really appreciate the existence of these monthly threads.  In writing my articles on memorable events from April and May for the .com site, I utilized those threads to make sure I included all of the wackiest moments.

Thank you to all who contribute to these threads!

Votto just hit bomb No. 3 tonight in the top of the 7th.  With a little bit of luck, he'll get another at bat in the 9th, with a chance for his fourth.

In other news, interesting goings on at Metstown.

I just checked the SD/ATL game and saw this sequence during which SD tied up the game:

Amarista scored, Solarte to third, Myers to second on passed ball.
Alonso walked, Solarte scored, Myers to third, Upton to second.
Spangenberg reached on catcher's interference, Myers scored, Upton to third, Alonso to second.

A's got six runs of their own in the eighth inning just now but just extended their lead by that much, if you remember what happened this past Sunday at Fenway. Kazmir pitched a 1 hitter through 8 for Oakland. Chi Chi Gonzalez pitched very well again for Texas.

Hell of a pitching match between the A's and the Angels. Only run came via a Pujols solo shot.

Also a really good one between Greinke and Kennedy
That one blows my mind a little bit. Kennedy has been pretty terrible this season, but so has Graveman, I suppose. Still, fun to watch.

You're being kind.  Kennedy has been a batting tee, while Greinke has been terrific.  This was unexpected.
Baseball, huh?

EDIT: And Grienke blinks first.

Compelte game 5 hit shut out for AJ Burnett today against Philly. Down to a 2.17 ERA this season, been a legitimate ace.

Burnett threw 9 innings, Buccos took 11 to score on a walk-off single by Josh Harrison off of Papelbon. Pirates have been playing great ball for a month now, just can't make up ground on the Cards.

Billy Hamilton must love getting on base against Lester. He's gotten on twice, with a single and a double. He's stolen his way to third each time.

I just don't get MLB replay . For all the crap the NFL has gotten over replay, it's at least generally effective.  But with MLB's replay, I legitimately don't have any idea what's going to get called from replay to replay.  Case in point, Anthony Rizzo gets hit by a pitch that grazed his pant leg.  Replay shows a tiny ripple in the uniform where the ball hit.  It's small, but it's there, and at the very least you can't see any room between the ball and his leg.  There's nothing there to overturn, and actually something there to confirm the call.

So, of course, it gets overturned.  I like the idea, I just feel like "indisputable" has some different meaning at MLB headquarters than it does everywhere else.
