Forgot to mention:

NJD hired W-B Pens former head coach John Hynes as their new head coach.

He got a 4 year deal. Good luck pal, this teams in for a long rebuild.

Oilers have fired assistant coaches Keith Acton and Craig Ramsay.
No surprise with a new coach coming in.

One domino has fallen in the war between NHL fans wanting to watch their team (and only their team) out of market and the league. As part of a lawsuit settlement reported by Reuters, the NHL will be offering single team NHL GameCenter Live packages over a five year period starting with the 2015-16 season for a discount on the full league package.
Fans wanting to simply buy a single team package will received a discount of “at least” 20% on the cost of the full league package (which ran $159 for the 2014-15 season). There will also be a discount of an extra 17.25% on early bird, renewal, and full season packages for the upcoming season.

Caveat: blackout rules will still be in effect, so Boston area Bruins fans can't cut the cable cord yet.

Sadly enough, the Bruins are probably the one thing keeping me tied to cable TV in this day and age.

Mr. Underwood will be remaining in Nashville.

"The Nashville Predators will not be allowing center Mike Fisher to hit the market.
The club re-signed the 35-year-old to a two-year contract worth $8.8 million. "

Zadorov, Grigorenko, and the #31 for Ryan O'Reilly.

I never thought Colorado valued O'Reilly appropriately, but man alive that is a great return on him.

That's gonna be a nice, long reminder for Lombardi. Should cost the Kings $4.2m against the cap in '18-'19 and '19-'20.

“@Rich_Hammond: Buyout is a long-term albatross, but does give Kings more than $9 million in cap room, total, for this summer. Can sign Dman, goalie, RFAs.”

LA apparently terminated Richards contract for a "material breach of the requirements of a SPC."

This will be a fun battle.

This is very odd.  I wonder what Richards did off the ice to warrant a material breach of his contract.

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Kings have terminated the contract of forward Mike Richards, the club announced today.
The club has issued the following statement and will not comment any further at this time:
“The Los Angeles Kings today have exercised the team's right to terminate the contract of Mike Richards for a material breach of the requirements of his Standard Player's Contract. We are not prepared to provide any more detail or to discuss the underlying grounds for the contract termination at this time.”

They're trying to avoid the cap hit and buyout payments. Seems clear something happened behind the scenes. A few reporters seem to know (McKenzie and Johnston) but can't disclose for legal reasons.

Edit: considering Voynov is still on the books, Richards situation has to be worse, no?

“@wyshynski: 1. Richards thing — very strong indications an off-ice indecent is going to come to light, but obviously no one’s breathing a word of it.”

“@wyshynski: 2. Richards thing — it sucks that so many people are going to drop ”told ya so’s“ about Mike, but that’s on him.”

Paragraph 14 seems to be a different set of reasons for terminating an SPC that has a higher "fuck you" level attached to it. I don't see anything in there that allows them to wish his buyout off the books and away to the cornfield.

The wording of that language is broad and nebulous. A team could really unleash some misery on a player if it so wished, or if said player promised to dedicate himself only to slack even more.

Not that the rumors about Richie taking his profession too lightly is news to anyone. For a guy who came out of juniors with a solid reputation as a leader, it appears he read one too many how-to manuals penned by Ricky Williams.

Also Lombardi specialized in labor law in college. So he would only do this if he knew he could win

Not really, it probably just means they want him off the books worse. I mean if it is drugs, Stoll just plead out a coke case, and do we think it's something worse than beating up his wife but he hasn't been arrested?

To be fair, I don't know a risk-adverse lawyer. Also, the NHLPA has lawyers and probably more to lose.

Modifying what I wrote earlier, Para. 14 also doesn't suggest the Kings can't try to have Anthony wish his contract to said cornfield. It will be an interesting challenge if everyone lawyers up.

I'm sleep-deprived due to another infant and it's impacting my comprehension skills. Richards was gong to be bought out but instead the Kings terminated the contract. It only took me 3-4 posts and a couple hours to pick up on this distinction. Sorry. Carry on. Kids 1, Fred 0.

Pierre McGuire also mentioned something about a border incident on the radio apparently.

That would explain why they'd decide to take such drastic measures. If this could affect his ability to travel between the US and Canada I'd say the Kings have a pretty strong case here.

Given his history, I'm going to go with this refers to getting caught with drugs on him trying to cross one of the borders.

Canadian police investigation involves Mike Richards

Mike Richards, whose contract has been terminated by the Los Angeles Kings, is part of an ongoing investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for an off-ice incident, a source told ESPN.com on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the RCMP in Manitoba told ESPN that, as of Tuesday, no charges have been brought against Richards but declined to comment further.
The source said that Canadian Border Services is also involved in the investigation, but a spokesperson declined comment, citing Canadian privacy laws.
Richards, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, had the remaining five years of his 12-year contractterminated Monday by the Kings. The team did not say why Richards is in violation of the deal other than to say in a statement that it was for "a material breach of the requirements of his Standard Player's Contract."
Several sources told ESPN.com that the Kings were made aware of the situation involving the Canadian authorities Friday, approximately an hour after the first round of the 2015 NHL draft had begun....

Columbus is the favorite to come out of the east right now IMO.  Saad is a stud to add to their loaded forward group and they won 15 of 16 to close the season once everybody finally got healthy last year.
