Russillo, Dan Patrick, SVP, are middle aged white guys who came up in the 90s. It is not surprising they would latch on to the mediocre talents of Barstool, as it is the last remenants of late 90s bro culture.

Speaking only for myself, I do not equate PMT with Barstool. I doubt very much that Rachel Nichols or SVP feel that having a good relationship with PMT means that they approve of "smokeshow of the week" or whatever. How do you feel about famous media people that support them? This is a legit question. Obviously guys like SVP, Rusillo, Nichols, and others (ESPN and non-ESPN) are fans and advocates for what PMT does and I’m sure had, however smalll, a hand in getting them into the Mothership for that lovely week. Are they complicit in the cross burnings or are they just sitting on the sidelines as innocent bystanders?
They have one of the top 10 downloaded podcasts in the US. Stop with the disingenuous bullshit that you have obviously never consumed.Russillo, Dan Patrick, SVP, are middle aged white guys who came up in the 90s. When did Big Cat say he hated Portnoy in a non-joking way?In the Origins podcast about ESPN Beadle basically said the same about Barstool. She thinks Portnoy is a piece of shit but people she trusts knows there’s nuance to it. Hell, Big Cat and PFT basically say they hate Portnoy on the podcast. That said, Big Cat knows that Portnoy is a trench guy given their history together.

I would have to give serious thought to so much as pissing on Bari Weiss or Bret Stephens if they were on fire, but I still subscribe to the NYT.
I think the discussion taking place in OiD kind of speaks to this. There is a line, but for me, consuming PMT is not crossing that line. And people like Chris Long and Rachel Nichols?
Maybe fans like myself are part of the problem. I likely am. But at the same time, go online and look at the responses to the Pats trading for Michael Bennett. Most of us probably watch a lot of NFL and that organization has done a lot more widespread harm than Barstool in my opinion. I feel more guilty watching it than I do listening to PMT. There are a lot of shitty people out there and I don't know how you remove yourself from association with them all. They infect everything.
Wait, you don't think it is absolutely ridiculous that SI paired with the D-Backs...to create a $30 Hot Dog?It's not a piece from Drew, but this is the kinda work from the new Deadspin that comes across as ridiculous. The article is so over the top it's almost a parody of itself.

No. Especially from Charlotte who isn't trying to come across as a traditional writer in the vein of the SI from 30 years ago. I mean it's not something I'd be dying to read, but I'm also not so enraged by it that I spend however many hours writing how offended I am that it exists.Wait, you don't think it is absolutely ridiculous that SI paired with the D-Backs...to create a $30 Hot Dog?
And this is spot on.But they instead took the "this is outrageous" tenor, which is just kind of silly. I find it particularly ironic that a site on which it's hard to find the editorial content for all the ads masked to look like articles would post this.
Sneaker phone? Bah.An article about how far SI has has to lower itself to continue to operate might've at least been of passing interest, assuming there was good evidence that SI, the company that once gave away a sneaker phone with a subscription, has "lowered itself" here.
.
When I was a kid, I wanted one of these so badly I called and asked how a current subscriber could get it. When I was told that I could not, I asked how long I'd have to wait ro re-subscribe after canceling to get a phone?Sneaker phone? Bah.
I had the football phone.

They sent me a phone.
That and Columbia House cds were my childhood obsession. When I was a kid, I wanted one of these so badly I called and asked how a current subscriber could get it. When I was told that I could not, I asked how long I'd have to wait ro re-subscribe after canceling to get a phone?

For his “how to” speech assignment, a kid in my high school public speaking class did “How to get the CDs from Columbia House for free and get always with it”. (Get the 12 for a penny and then tell them you are under 18 so the contract is invalid and threaten to file a complaint if they go after you). That and Columbia House cds were my childhood obsession.
You said it. It is awful that he had/has to go through that horrific event. However that might be one of his best pieces in ages. When he isn't just recycling his rants, the guy is an amazing writer.Jesus. What a read.
Could also be the blowback for that piece they ran criticizing the new owner's hiring practices. Sounds like things will be different either way. The site had a lot of editorial freedom under Denton because that's his approach, and then kept a lot of it under Univision because nobody at Univision seemed to know the site existed. The new guy seems both hands-on and thin-skinned.Sure sounds like they want Deadspin to stick more to sports. Greenwell was there only 18 months.
Yes, back to basics...Sure sounds like they want Deadspin to stick more to sports. Greenwell was there only 18 months.

Yeah, that was cringe-worthy in the extreme. I'm no fan of hers for sure.I'm still waiting for her to explain that whole "the part where a lot of Puerto Rican families live" comment.
