Mignolet, Can, Skrtel, Sakho, Henderson, Gerrard, Lucas, Moreno, Markovic, Coutinho, Sterling.

Glad to see Markovic in the front 3. Much more productive there than as a wingback.

Edit: LFC's graphic implies Markovic will stay as a wingback with Gerrard up in a #10 role.

Sick save from Courtois. Lallana couldn't do any better.
Yup. That and his save on Gerrard in the first half were incredible.

Really encouraging effort today but not holding my breath on getting at least as good a result at Stamford Bridge

I can't figure out how to embed that but you can see on the second replay angle (from behind the goal) that Lallana actually raises his fist to start celebrating after striking the ball and, honestly, I can't blame him.

I only saw the last 30 minutes or so but thought Liverpool were great, even if the result was a little disappointing.

I assume these are the approximate formations, with both clubs (unsurprisingly) playing very strong teams.  I'll be pulling for you guys.  I'd love to see Mourinho's reaction to getting dumped out of two cup competitions at Stamford Bridge in the span of four days.

--------Costa---------
Hazard--Oscar---Willian
----Matic--Fabregas-----
Luis--Terry-Zouma-Ivanovic
-------Courtois---------

vs.

--Coutinho--Sterling-Gerrard-----
Moreno-Lucas-Henderson-Markovic
-----Sakho---Skrtel---Can----
----------Mignolet-------------

Coutinho has been really impressive.  Other times I've watched him, he has seemed to shrink and disappear in bigger matches, especially against teams that got physical with him.  But he's been battling out there (against Ivanovic no less) and clearly has the talent to produce moments of magic in situations where few players can.  He still seems to do stupid shit a couple times a match, usually involving trying to dribble through three players in the midfield area when there is an easy pass that will accomplish the same thing, but you'd think that his decision making in those spots would improve with age.

What was Sakho thinking with that pass?

I think Oscar could have gotten one more barrel roll out of that before it was complete absurd as opposed to just comical.

And Diego Costa is filthy. In the bad way.

Sakho fake hurt after his brain fart. I'd rather play with 10 than have Johnson on the field. Waste of a sub and a waste of a player. Time for back-passes from attacking areas.

Someone explain to me how Costa's repeated flagrant attempts to injure opponents isn't worse than Suarez's biting.
To be fair, Suarez did all that shit, too. In the LFC shirt, no less.

So Costa's gotta get some kind of supplementary discipline for two stamps in one match right?

Possibility of Costa getting suspended and a Cesc injury... you guys are making me wish i was watching this!

You're remembering what you think you saw based on your opinion of the man (I seem to recall you wanted him permanently banned after the World Cup bite).  The only stamping-like incident I can vaguely remember is once when he ran his studs how Distin's leg.  YouTube haters have plenty of edits where they pretend a clumsy challenge is a vicious attack, or Photoshops like Nani's "gaping wound" after Carragher kicked him (Nani played the next week).

But those who hate shall hate henceforth, I suppose.

I want so badly for Balo to succeed...

Also, Mignolet has been a rock in everything you could ask of a keeper today. This is bizarre.

If this goes to overtime, complete with two Chelsea injuries, that's a decent advantage for City come Saturday
