33 of 38 feels a lot farther away than 34 or 38.

Choosing between further and farther led to semantic satiation for both words. I don’t recall that ever happening before.

Hopefully we all get that from Arsenal and State Citeh losses.

You grabbed the wrong one. Farther is for physical distance, further is for metaphorical distance. Father is for emotional distance.

Kabore goes down with an ankle injury. In the next 3 possessions, Luton passes him the ball, until he limps and can't go on any further

Oh my. Everything about this Everton-Forest game has been Sunday league,’in luring that goal by Gueye. A laser precision take by Gueye, but comically slow keeping.

That was very Everton - Doucouré jinking left and right outside the Forest box, trying to either carve space for a shot or a decent pass, when his own player takes it off his feet and passes to a Forest player.

Var is a disease that has made everyone forget how bad decisions have always been. I absolutely despise it and nearly everything they’ve tried to do with it. It it’s absolutely wild that teams are now basically accusing the refs of corruption on social media accounts. It’s one thing for a manager to pop off in the heat of battle post match but the FA has a very serious problem on its hands

This is one of the best games I’ve ever seen Palace play. I liked the hiring of Oliver Glasner. I’m starting to love it.

The press has been really cohesive. They seem to know WHs build up patterns and are just snuffing them out. WH played midweek and may just be a touch slow to everything but I agree it’s a very comprehensive performance

You could see that Fulham goal coming a mile away. They have outplayed Liverpool since the 30 minute mark.
I don’t know what’s wrong with this team, but the apathy appears systemic.

Good on Forest. I think every team and fan has wanted to send that exact message at some point this season.

meanwhile, Liverpool with the lackadaisical defending allow Fulham to tie it up.

Not good on Forest. They don’t get 3 decisions they certainly could have gotten on other days. This used to happen all the time! Then we introduced VAR and everyone wanted it to only intervene in really obvious mistakes but over time everyone has gotten so fucking whiny and soft that every decision is scrutinized under a “is it what I want” lens versus the standard they set out to implement. I hate Var, I truly do, but I think football will always create situations where the rule book will require interpretation and intent analysis and the more we go down this road of everyone feeling the refs are out to get them the worse the experience is for everyone.

Why can’t we give Forest credit for publicly calling out bad calls (the handball seemed particularly egregious)? Especially when they asked that the VAR referee be taken off due to perceived bias before the match. Promotion and relegation are on the line for them. Like VAR or not (and I share your “not”), referees use it as a crutch now, They won’t make a 50-50 call because they assume VAR will save them. When in reality, VAR rarely intervenes as much as it maybe should. And all the Liverpool fans will point you to one game when these clowns couldn’t even communicate an intervention. It’s the same nonsense with offsides where obvious calls are let play on (at least autonomous offsides should help here). Any complaint that makes VAR get revisited and fixed/improved somehow is a good complaint for me. I’m all for improving the quality of refereeing which I think is sorely lacking right now in the Premier League.

I’ll go back to waiting for Liverpool to fall asleep again and drive me insane.

Forest can STFU. I judge these things by wherever I’d have been truly aggrieved if they’d gone against my club and of the three only the Young handball cones close and not even that.

Forest were putrid. They had one good chance. They did not compete well.

I think they got screwed by the calls and even then I roll my eyes severely at that kinda tweet shit. Agreed they were pretty dire at doing anything but creating those three penalty shouts.

Barcelona in the lead! They probably can feel rightly aggrieved by some unlucky calls earlier, namely the lack of goal line tech.

All 3 were an artifact of Young being er…too old. In each of this situations, he either needs to be closer before the action or quicker to close down. No matter Everton’s fate this season, his spot is a priority upgrade.

the handball was a clear pen. The whole “it was too close” thing is a colloquialism, isn’t in the rules. His arm was extended out from his body and blocked a cross. The other two were marginal - VAR probably doesn’t overturn if they were given.

Also, Young Gio looks rusty and out of synch. Our boy needs a permanent home that will run him out there every week with some creative freedom.

True.

Dyche has some strengths as a manager. His weaknesses include making binkies out of bad players like Young, which is infuriating. Young does not have the athleticism to compete in the PL anymore.

Gio was a complete non-factor. Forgot he was there, his name got called so infrequently.

So Mr Young has a quick wit, at least

He is who has been throughout his career. In his prime, his physical skills were good enough to allow him to keep his position on top teams, and employ the dark arts to make him a useful contributor. You had grudging admiration for him as an opponent. I guess Dyche still sees him as that guy, but he just seems like the weakest link whose ceiling is not blowing the game. Even decimated Everton has better options. It should have been Garner at right back yesterday.

Everton's options at right back are/have been, depending on health in any given week:

-Seamus Coleman, for grit, guile, and leadership
-Nathan Patterson, for bedding in the prospect
-Ben Godfrey, lacking in nous and experience but extremely athletic
-James Garner, a midfielder by trade but a well-rounded, two-way player who excelled at RB for England in the U21 Euros

Any one of these offers more upside in some dimension than Young, who does not lead this pack in any important attribute (Coleman, who is depicted in an Everton shirt in the Lascaux cave paintings, is amazingly still three years younger than Young, but miles ahead in nous and ability to read the game).

You have to squint to see the upside in playing Patterson, who has struggled and has had injury issues, but he is an experienced international at a young age. At almost exactly the same juncture of his career, Mykolenko was, like Patterson, still considered a project and by some thought to be a bust, but with more minutes has evolved into one of the better defensive LB in the league. Got to play the kids eventually to find out if they can cut it.

Godfrey will bang bodies like a CB and will sprint the width of the pitch to make a game saving tackle, notwithstanding that he was off on some dumbass detour that made it necessary to begin with.

There is literally no point to playing Young, whose season is littered with yellow cards, red cards, own goals, penalties, and every other kind of self-destruction that a defender is capable of.

Arsenal are up 1-0 at 27' and just swarming the Chelsea goal. Petrovic with several saves, including one of his face stopping a wicked deflection that was just being in the right (wrong?) place.
