Hopefully, the next GM can buy him out or trade him in a couple years. Are they planning on McQuaid and Miller being hurt? Kind of a log jam of replacement level defenseman in Morrow, Trotman, Miller and McQuaid. The Napkin said:
Do we know how much Chia likes McQuaid? Can he even be traded at this point? Am I beyond the point of rational thought? Am I channeling Rudy Pemberton?

Over the past 8 years or so, we've all joked and argued and stuff at the margins of what was actually a pretty awesome fan experience. When you and I had lunch before last season, we both said that it feel like that window was closing.
Sweeney just bolted a fucking titanium shell to the front of the house. This is insane.
Just a gentle reminder that before he got hurt, many on this board thought McQuaid and Boychuck were redundant and that McQuaid's game was a real asset to the Bruins' game. He was always Darth Quaider and there was great relish in here for the punishment he dished out. That guy could come back—the FO sure seems to be betting he will. To be clear, I am in no way defending the moves taken together, I am gut punched as many as anybody here—just trying to see what these guys with light years more experience and knowledge are seeing as they make these seismic moves.TheShynessClinic said:I don't think either of us would have guessed the velocity at which the window was closing though.
4 years ago we had just won a cup, had two top ten picks in our system, had Tuukka waiting in the wings, Lucic looked like he was about to become Neely-lite, Horton was a proven playoff scorer...we were set.
Seguin is gone, Hamilton is gone, Lucic is gone, Horton is out of the NHL...the Bruins missed the playoffs, and the team could currently be considered in the bottom 5 in the league.
4 yearrs.
BUT WE STILL HAVE MCQUAID!
Whoever suggested McQuaid could replace Boychuk? Boychuk is better in every facet of hockey except for fighting and Boychuk wasn't terrible at that.catomatic said:Just a gentle reminder that before he got hurt, many on this board thought McQuaid and Boychuck were redundant and that McQuaid's game was a real asset to the Bruins' game. Oh, I agree on both points. The Looch deal was a good one. My post was a weak attempt at gallows humor about Cam and Don not having any sort of a direction.Smiling Joe Hesketh said:I think they traded Lucic more because he's got one year left and will want $8 million than for any indictment of his hockey skills.
And the Lucic trade was the one move that actually made sense over the last week.
I think the lucic trade had more to do with contract than their desire to move on. I read that they discussed an extension with lucic and he wanted 8 years but they were only comfortable with five.cshea said:Well they traded Lucic so that can't be it.
The McQuaid signing is easily the worst of Friday's moves.
I agree with all of this. Don't forget Colin Miller who they got in the Lucic trade as well. As the dust has settled on the weekend, this deal just angers me beyond any other because it is completely nonsensical (and I hated and disagreed with the Dougie trade obviously).Salem's Lot said:I get why they traded Hamilton. I don't agree with it, but I get that they think he's a $5 million defenseman and he wanted $7-$8 so they traded him. They didn't get enough for him, but at least I get the logic behind it. I liked the Lucic trade. I thought they got value for a declining player going into his walk year, and they weren't interested in paying into his 30's. Again I get this move. The McQuaid deal is just stupid and illogical on so many different levels. The guy can't stay healthy, and even when he is, he's slow & unskilled. They have a guy in house to do his job for $900k. I would rather see them play a bottom 4 of Morrow, Trotman, Kug and Miller then this guy. His only redeeming quality is that he occasionally punches someone in the face, but guess what Miller can do that as well, and for a third of the cap hit. This one makes the Chris Kelly deal look good.
I don't think we will ever come to understand this one.The Four Peters said:I agree with all of this. Don't forget Colin Miller who they got in the Lucic trade as well. I've said it before, but my biggest gripe is that you can't have Kevan Miller and McQuaid on the ice at the same time. Therefore, you're guaranteed one in your top 4 and that is just unacceptable to me.
I'd much prefer to see:
Chara - Seidenberg
Krug - TBD (Seabrook???)
Morrow/Trotman/Miller/Miller combination
Krug has proven that he's capable of playing top 4 mins last year, and I want to see that continue this year so that he progresses. They have the money to acquire another top 4 D which they desperately need and they have a bunch of guys who can fill out the bottom pairing.
McQuaid does not fit into this picture.
Toe Nash said:I like Krug but he was incredibly sheltered. He had the 60th-easiest competition (of 220 D with 400+ ES minutes) last year and only 23.7% of his zone starts were in the defensive zone (13th in the league in ZSO%.
That's fine when you have Hamilton and Chara but I'm not sure Krug has really proven yet he can play top 4 minutes. Maybe he can do it and Claude just hasn't had to try, but it's currently an unresolved question.
The first steps in firming up the 2015-16 roster have not been steady. Adam McQuaid re-signed for four years, and he will be laughing all the way to the bank — until he jams his hand in the ATM and lands on injured reserve.
