He'll need to be a little careful, because Jets "housecleaning" discussions will invariably bleed into Giants "housecleaning" discussions, of which he will want no part.

He is all excited. Steve Tisch quoted by Daily News that staffing decisions will be deferred till after SB.

"If that is true, that means Tom Coughlin is coming back."

Yipee!

Colts made him look bad.  Mike has lusted after EVERYTHING being about Manning v. Luck since at least late last season.  He was disappointed when the Pats blew them up in the playoffs.  He started in again this year, and they have made Mike look foolish.  He's pissed.

I don't think it's that. I think by crapping on the Colts as a team makes Luck look better. And just loves Luck. He says without him they're a 3-4 win team.

I don't think he's wrong. The defense is horrid, their offensive line is average, and their running backs are below average. Put Andy Dalton on that team, and they don't win 6 games.

FrancesaCon sold out the Irving Plaza in 10 minutes.

EDIT: Slight correction, they crashed the website that was selling the tickets in 10 minutes.

Francesa reminds us that we 'need laws and rules' and 'can't have a city if you don't support the policeman'.

I think it's best if he stays out of this one, given that there's no consensus perspective for him to pitch.

I'm looking forward to his thoughts on the Eagles after angrily guaranteeing that they couldn't possibly lose to the Redskins ("A 3 WIN TEAM!!!!") on Friday.

Spoiler alert, he won't mention it.

If Russo was there Chris would bust his chops about it all day but now it's essentially a sports dictatorship and the great leader will never take a hit. He'll bash the Eagles and Sanchez of course but never admit any mistakes on his part.

Mike is going to be a little annoyed. He was selling a "nice end to the season" last week and said that Philly would be a no show today. He acknowledged -- as he had to -- that it has been a poor season for the Giants, but added "things are looking up."

He'll also get on Beckham for the scoring backwards stunt.  It was a classless move, and a dumb one since they were still trailing after the score.

The Giants finished 6-10 and the Jets finished 4-12, and he assumes Tom is safe and Rex is gone.  But the Giants beat one team with a winning record (Texans, early in the season) while the Jets beat two (Steelers and the Dolphins, who were 8-7 coming into this game) so it is not like there is that much of a difference between their equally dreadful seasons.

Mike DEFENDED BB this morning by stating that it was the referee's job to tell the Ravens who was ineligible - not the Patriots. He stated that the Pats did everything legal and that they were smart enough to put in legal plays that would confuse their opponents. He also referenced negatively Shula and said, "The Pats have this reputation of playing fast and loose with the rules, but this is not one of those examples - and the Ravens, but more importantly, the referees should know better. Give the Pats credit for dusting things off and finding something to stop Baltimore's momentum. They went into their bag of tricks and won." Will wonders never cease....

By the way, Mike thinks that it was an Ernie Adams idea....

Yes, but he's also re-evaluaing how good the Pats defense is.  Because it's impossible that a defense could just have an off day I guess.

We didn't throw our A game against them yesterday, but we certainly got theirs, and we still survived.   That should count for something.

Its fair for Francesa (as well as us.) to re-evaluate the Pats D after last night. Let's hope it was just 1 bad game. But he has one of  his themes for the week.

As for his defending BB's use of the rule book, (ie not cheating) he could not help himself and had to reference "spygate" (when they did get caught cheating). This will probably be his listener's theme, and he will play off it.

It is absolutely fair to question this defense. Dominated by makeshift Ravens I line featuring rookie UFA

He's now saying the Pats "found a loophole" by not declaring who was ineligible.  Which of course, is BS, because according to all reports, the refs announced before each play which player was ineligible.
They definitely announced at the stadium because we were trying to figure out why the ref was saying 34 is ineligible

NFL announcement in last 30 minutes:

The Patriots substitutions were legal from a formational AND reporting standpoint.

They also "found a loophole" by having a WR throw a TD.

A team has to declare ineligible players -- Nos. 50-79 & 90-99 -- as eligible; and eligible as ineligible. The former happens all the time. The latter not so much.

yep he has stated repeatedly that the Colts are not a good team and don't deserve to be in the playoffs.

I wonder if he'll have Mike Pereira on this week as he did last week.  Last week, Francesa anointed Pereira the definitive authority on all things regarding the rules.   But they were in agreement about the reversed call in the Detroit-Dallas game, and Pereira has already stated that the call in the Green Bay game was correct.

Maybe he can have Mike Carey on to agree with him.

FF picks on the conference championships

Seattle -7

S'Hawks 30
GB 20

Pats -6 1/2

Pats 38
Colts 24-27

(paraphrase) I'll be the happiest guy in America if I'm wrong on this game"

since week 12 I've thought it was going to be NE-Seattle in SB, no reason to move away from that. I'll be rooting for Seattle in that game"

Big surprise there

He came off like a douche.  He should have just said he hates the Patriots and BB and wants them to lose.

He broke out the pom poms and then said the following about both the AFCCG and a potential 'Hawks/Pats matchup:

Colts: 'I'll be the happiest guy in America if they pull it off; I just don't expect it, like I said I think Luck will put up 24-27, and the Pats will put up 38.'

'Hawks: 'I can tell you right now, I'll be rooting for Seattle...because [PAUSE] you know what, I just think that that defense is that good.'

Just fucking say it.

Francesa going on a tirade against Nantz, who is vehemently disagreeing with the idea that the Pats are done if they lose today.

Mike desperately wants Brady and BB to go away.

EDIT - News bulletin: according to Mike, if the Patriots go to the Super Bowl they'll have a VERY tough matchup awaiting them.  I'm stunned at the possibility that the championship game would be difficult to win.

Francesa spoke for about 5 minutes straight without Nantz getting a word in...Finally Nantz had enough and cut him off when he tried interrupting once he did get a chance to talk...

Granted I haven't listened regularly to Mike in years, but he always used to like Brady. Even amidst the Belichick hate. I'm surprised he would write off the Pats completely in a potential SB matchup, if only because he would give Brady a shot to carry the team.
