Eli's 5 interceptions are going to make this very awkward for him. It's not as if they were blown out. Plus no Jets to ridicule this week. He is going to be in a foul mood.

He wouldn't pick this game, saying he didn't want to give the Pats points, he said it was a "bad line for the Colts" but he thought the Colts would win a pick' em game.

Speaking to Nantz this AM, he thought this would be a test for the Pats.

They passed (by running).

He'll talk about Spygate and horse racing.

And Giant coaching candidates.

"If its pick 'em I'm takin' the Colts"...he will be in a vile, nasty "they haven't won a Super Bowl in ten years" mood on Monday. The Pats embarrassed his golden boy on national TV.  Nevertheless, he will somehow twist things around with his unbiased analysis that if not for a few plays and missed wide open Colt receivers, this is a completely different game...Game just got away from the Colts...Pats D still isn't that good...Colts could beat 'em if they played again...etc. etc. etc.

Yup -- I'd only add "they've got to make it to the playoffs with Gronk before I take them seriously as a contendah."

His problem with the Colts is their complete destruction defending the run.  Compare the stats with last year's playoff game between these two teams -- they are almost identical.

Mike correctly killed the Giants for this two weeks ago.  No way can he give the Colts a pass.  They have half a team, it's as simple as that -- Steelers killed them with the pass, Pats with the run.

I just took a look at his picks, he went 2-4, (excluding the Colts pick' em pick), he may be in a pissy mood.

As to the Pats, its going to be a hard-sell to his audience who watched the game, to say the Pats were fortunate last night, so he may set them up as clear favorite going forward, knowing they got a tough schedule coming up. And I agree he'll kill the Colts D, and their toughness, the lack of a running game, but not Luck (who I thought played an ok-good game)

Yeah, I'm interested to see how he spins this. I remember the first time the Pats faced Luck, they smoked the Colts 59-24. Luck had two TDs and three INTs but Mike's take was the game was closer than the score because "Luck moved the ball up and down the field on the Pats D."

I'm guessing Mike will say 'Colts not an elite defense, Pats proved nothing as one random kid got hot.' Essentially, more of Tomato Cans theory.

It's as if a team needs to play (and beat) the '85 Bears, the '89 49ers, etc. every week in order to prooooove themselves.

On the Giants

I'm not taking 5 hours of calls on how bad Eli was.  He does say how bad Eli played.   Says he is a product of this offensive line.  Just a bad day for him, terrible day for the offensive line.  To me, the Giants season ended a while ago.  There are more losses coming.  Might win Sunday night, but it's going to get worse.  There's a lot of issues with the team.  I've been Tom's biggest supporter forever.  Never once thought he was the reason (for losing) but if they make a change now they aren't wrong.  How do you separate results from sentimentality?  You're always going to give him benefit of the doubt, but there comes a time where I can't be sentimental.  I think you saw some of that last year and the move to a different offense was a mistake.  Not a direction to go in and was mettlesome act from an ownership who doesn't mettle.  What's the answer?  Is Tom the answer?  Is McAdoo the answer or is one year enough?  It created another layer of questions and topic to discuss.  It shouldn't be on the table.  Right now, the coaching staff should be one issue and Reese should be an issue.  But, now OC is a separate issue.  This is another forgotten year.  2 in a row.  They don't have many of those.  In the last 29 games, they've been one of the poorest teams in the league.

Thanks for the recap. Very predictable from Mike. No way he bashes his beloved Giants for 5 hours but at least he sees what's going on.

On the Pats
--Revis was "for the first time this year" a very big factor.
--Belichick rolled out another secret plan.
--They are the best team but it's only November.
--Colts injuries played a big factor in the game.

Dwayne Allen would have been the difference!!!

I had to go back to work so I only heard the opening Giants ELI defending nonsense - but anything about Pagano running Trent Richardson? starts the game with the bum on the opening drive that was a three and out if I recall.

was the 19 yards rushing due to Dwayne Allen getting hurt???

What is Mike saying was the "secret plan" this time?  Gray?  Running the ball effectively (which is often independent of the guy holding the ball) is a "secret plan" now?

Mike is such a clown with the Pats.

'Only' November? It's Week 11. How much longer would you like to wait?
Which teams' lead running back was injured last night? Rhyme with Shridley?
Since when is doing the thing that works a 'secret plan?' And how 'secret' is it when it's the same thing the Pats did last year to the exact same opponent?

In sum, if his beloved Giants or his beloved Peyton did what the Pats did last night there would be no such qualifications. It would be described as a show of 'dominance' from an 'elite' team that we should all enjoy while we can since we are witnessing greatness. Suck it, Mike.

How bitter do you have to be to not enjoy watching Gronk play football?  I would think as a "neutral" fan it'd be one of the most fun things you could see on a football field.  Old school, new school...there isn't an audience that his performance doesn't play to outside of cranky old douche.

Francesa hated Pedroia when he first came up, but then he went on to all but adopt him into the family. Maybe Gronk will take the same path.

I'm neutral and I love him. Fun is the right word. Doesn't hurt that he's great at the football too.

I could see hating Gronk if he was a total fuckup or took himself too seriously (*cough* JJ Watt).

But the thing is, he plays hard and is, for lack of a better term, "in on the joke."  He knows he's a goof, and he plays it up, but only up to the point where it might impede his on-field performance.

Really wish I had saved the video but in 2003 his statement about the Pats defense was that "Belichick would trade defenses with the Jets without giving it a second thought." He repeated this many times as if Belichick himself had told him this. Then the Pats won the Super Bowl and I remember him distinctly saying, "This idea that the Pats don't have any defensive players is utter nonsense."
Now, of course, he attributes those three Super Bowl victories to the defense, which was made up of players Belichick didn't pick. Mike is great at moving the goal posts.

Right on.

But I have to say one thing.....

Way back when Bill resigned as HC of the NYJ and joined Kraft; Mike while fuming at those events predicted that BB would be "the Bill Arnsparger of his generation".

Very shortly after the Pats won their first SB - this poster was a caller on the Mike and The Mad Dog Show and reminded Mike of his comment to which he replied, "I was wrong".

It's not often - but Fatcessa "will" offer a mea culpa at certain times.

Nice. I don't remember either the Arnsparger comparison or the mea culpa.

On the Sunday nmorning show, he said that the Pats D is now its best since the 01-'04 SB teams.
His turning point was the Revis use/performance in the Indy game.

With BB's ability to game-plan for specific opponents and his strength at devising coverage schemes, the Pats D now rivals the Pats O as a force.

He also put in the usual disclaimer about they can be beat, but he pretty much pulled a 180.

Later in this morning's show Francesa reported how the Colts coach said there were at least 4 plays on offense that should've gone for big yards but there were breakdowns...Pats fan calls in to say what about all the yards the Pats got on offense...Francesa shuts him down and says how Patriot fans are so sensitive...

Yeah, great work Buck!  You just brought back the sad memories of my childhood as a Giants fan. To me, the Giants building their 80's team and watching them progress and then win Super Bowl 21 was the greatest sports fan experience I had, until October of 2004.

With the Giants he managed just seven wins in his thirty-five games.

I swear that I got my dad to bet the Giants every week during the Arnsparger years. He'd take a 4 teamer and I'd beg him to take the Giants.  Might have well as flushed that $25 every weekend.

It might be a fun opening with him calling for a total house cleaning.
Maybe he'll go easy with it being hunger-thon day
